Best of 2010

List items

  • Alan Wake was my most anticipated game of 2010 and it didn't disappoint me, but the game-play ran out of steam towards the end and the story didn't resonate with me as much as other games did that year. Other than that and some smaller issues I didn't have that many problems with Alan Wake but 2010 was a big year and some other games had more of an impact on me.

  • Conviction is my bad ass simulator, I always felt powerful and in control no matter how much the odds were stacked against me. It made me feel like a hunter that was more powerful than his enemies but could also be killed for making one mistake, a feeling I haven't had since the original Crysis. The story was good for what it was (considering how drunk Michael Ironside is throughout) but the game play was what stuck with me.

  • I was a little skeptical about this game when I first heard about it, I enjoy the Burnout games a lot but I wasn't sure that Criterion could bring their own unique spin to the Need For Speed Franchise, but this game had to be the best NFS game in years. The multi-player is a blast with or without friends and the Cop portions of the single-player can be just as fun. Although the Racing campaign has some serious rubber banding issues Hot Pursuit ended up being my favorite racer of the year.

  • My major issue with Fallout 3 was how the later half of the game didn't feel open because most streets in the D.C. area would force the player onto a certain path by having other paths blocked with debris. That also forced you to use the subway system which was the same recycled environment over and over. Those issues left a sour taste in my mouth for the rest of the game but New Vegas fixed that with the Mojave Desert which is a completely open area like past Bethesda games. New Vegas refined most of the issues I had with Fallout 3 and it ended up hooking me in until the end, even with the glitches.

  • It had a better campaign than I was expecting but still didn't pull me in as much as Modern Warfare 1 and 2 did and I'm finally starting to get bored with Call of Duty multi-player so hopefully they change it up some next installment.
