"Hey, What the Heck are You Doing Here?!"

Welcome to the Portal Between Sanity and Cynicism!

Hello fellow Giant Bombers, my name is Carlito Cabada, Jr. and my username--as emblazoned throughout this profile--is Sleepy_insomniac.

That godlike being is me. Don't let the pink Barbie bicycle deceive you.
That godlike being is me. Don't let the pink Barbie bicycle deceive you.

My life humbly began in a military base near Tokyo, Japan where I popped out of the womb and cried the shrieking cries of a newborn baby.  Since then, I have grown to be an avid gamer with an abundance of pessimism and a casual hint of optimism.

The first system that I ever laid hands on was a Nintendo Entertainment System and the first game I ever played was the original Castlevania.  I don't remember much about those moments, but my older sister said that I was actually terrified of the game.  In any case, Nintendo systems and the Castlevania series have been two of the many obsessions in my life as a gamer.  My life in gaming consisted of Nintendo systems up until my mom decided to get a Playstation 2 (that my siblings and I didn't ask for) on the Christmas of 2005.  I would like to say I'm as much a Nintendo fanboy as I was back in old days, but times have changed and so has Nintendo.  Most of my time is spent either on the Playstation 3 or the Xbox 360 nowadays; but, with the arrival of my new laptop, I'm also hoping to breach through small holes in the PC community as well.  My favorite game of all time is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots followed closely by The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

My early childhood was filled with adventures in a local Hyper Mart playground, sugar-donut Sundays underneath the Toys 'R Us, and daily viewings of the movie Speed.  My family then moved to the United States (this is my second time moving here, actually) and resided in Waukegan, Illinois.  In was those apartments that I discovered my annual bout with pneumonia, a life-long friend in the form of a stuffed dolphin toy, and the ability to use roller blades.  Once again, my family packed up and moved, this time to the other side of town.  There, is where I resided to this day and where most of my best moments have occurred in my life so far.  I found a love for acting on stage, broke out of my hardened social shell, and graduated from high school.  As for what the future brings, I could hardly care; though I am currently an enrolled student in the Illinois Institute of Technology as a Computer Science major and will be attending for the 2008-2009 school year as a freshman.

I dream about a Yoshi when I sleep. Not really, but that would be nice.

My family consists of my father, my mother, one older sister, one older brother and one younger sister.  Each person I've met (for better or worse) has influenced who I am today and I'm thankful to each of them for being a part of life (that includes you Giant Bombers also).  But enough sappiness, let's get to the heart of the matter!

Like many users here, I was a user of GameSpot, another website that actively covers the gaming industry through the latest news, previews and reviews.  In November 2007, disaster struck the site like a ravenous lightning bolt and Jeff Gerstmann, an editor of Giant Bomb, was terminated from his position as Editorial Director.  I was a believer in the rumors concerning his termination and stopped going to the site.  For awhile, I had a brief stint as a member at 1UP but never took advantage of their blog or review system.  Finally, the release of Giant Bomb gave me the freedom and the tools needed to carry my message to those who wish to read it.  I also found the forums to be kick-ass and the whole community to be cool and awe-inspiring.

My goal with my blog is to keep the reader updated on my personal impressions concerning the gaming industry and games I happen to be playing.  I will also be dabbling in personal events if I consider them exciting or worthy enough to tell people about.  I hope that, unlike the rest of the online community, I can deliver these things to you in a coherent and mature manner (plus grammatically correct).  If you wish to add me as a friend, please do so!  The more the merrier!

Good day to you all!
