There's a first time for everything...

After the touching final game at "the house that Ruth built," (in which I shed more than a few tears, after-all, Yankee stadium was and will forever be a LARGE part of my life) the New York Yankees are officially eliminated from playoff contention. Not only is this the first time in fourteen years that the Bronx Bombers will not be making a playoff appearance, it is the first time in my entire life that I will be watching a post-season without my home-town team. (I have been watching baseball since 1996, the second year of the Yankees 14-year streak.)

How to take this? I suppose I shouldn't feel too bad, we did have a season plagued with numerous injuries to our best players, a terribly cold battling line-up, and a pitching rotation that is not only bad, but has never remained the same for more than a couple weeks. Frankly, we didn't play like a team that deserved to be in the playoffs. Hopefully next year will be more solid, and we will have players who are able to make it the entire season without being out for more then a month at a time.

Good luck to the teams that did make the playoffs, and please somebody beat the Rays and the Red Sox.

What was with Hank Steinbrenner crying like a little baby about having to play in the AL East? Does a small taste of what other teams have been dealing with the past 10-20 years feel bad?

Very surprising to see that the Yanks have been eliminated.  I'm not a big follower of baseball, but that is quite a shock.

I'm an old Braves fan, of course I'm just plain old. 14yrs. my Braves won their division, lately, well you know. I'm not a Yankees fan, but I have much respect for the franchise and a little sadness about the end of an era that is Yankee Stadium. I'm pulling for the Cubs in the playoffs, because my dad has been a fan forever and it's time for them to get that monkey off their back.

I definitely agree with you about the Cubs Claude. I will be rooting for them in the playoffs as well, since the curse of the bambino ended, it is about time for these other curses to follow in line ( and a majority of them have.... O.o .)

Yes! Now were talking my team! 100 years since the cubbis have won a WS.

I too am sad to see Yankee Stadium go, got to see the cubs play there a few years ago, loved every minute of it.
