For the love of Bomberman

Bomberman 2 for the SNES
Yeah, this WII game is exactly what went wrong with the series
To this day I consider Bomberman 2 / Bomberman 93 as one of the pure pinacles of video gaming. It had fast paced gameplay and a perfect feel to it that only games like Galaga had before it. I recently played 4 player Bomberman 93 with Jeff, Andy and Vinny and despite it being 4 in the morning, we all had to continue playing one more game.

Because of all that, it's sad the franchise completely imploded somwhere in the mid 90s. Bomberman 3 introduced such horrible ideas as the bombermen riding kangeroos, and the later 3D next-gen versions simply changed the game altogether to a crappy action title. Bomberman was possibly the franchise to keep going indefinitely. Just like tetris, it doesn't need fancy graphics or new game types to keep it fresh, it just needs to be... well bomberman. Jeff introduced me to the Saturn version of the game which supposedly allows 10 person bombing, but until I get a full 10 man game on I still think Bomberman 2 was the best of the series.

I hate the atrocity that is Bomberman: Act Zero. That game defiled my insides, and no word in the English Dictionary could ever describe it, so I have to make a word up. It was Gagoogerplexing.

I don't know, Bomberman Live was pretty good.

I agree about Bomberman Live, thats thankfully one Bomberman that is... Bomberman.

Agreed, I also think Bomberman can't be in a new game cause they've done all you can do to Bomberman!

I liked the kangaroos, they were aweseome. Mega Bomberman was easily the best....

Yes I agree. Its sad to see the companies totally milking these great games. I would love to see a legit bombermen on the xbla.

I have to agree with you there, the Bomberman Wii game was bad (not as bad as act zero but I dont even want to go there)

I've never been a big fan of Bomberman, but Sonic games have gotten pretty atrocious since the turn to 3D. And if Resident Evil keeps heading down the same road, then that could be up there too.

Heh. Not got a Wii yet but with so many silly titles out for it, I wonder if it will be worth getting?

With the exception of Bomberman LIVE, I have to completely agree with you about the downfall of bomberman.

But of course 90% of all games that were made in the 2D era and are continued in the 3D era are rather bad, thus I think the change from 2D to 3D gameplay destroyed a lot of good franchises.

A lot of 2D franchises like Sonic and Worms for example are horrible in 3D.

100% Agreed.
