Reasons to play Clock Tower on the SNES and not the Wonderswan

There's not much info on the Wonderswan version, so I started playing it to see what it's like. I don't like it nearly as much as the SNES version. Here are a few reasons why:

  • The cursor moves a hell of a lot slower in the Wonderswan one (although occasionally this is nice when trying to grab a doorknob while running)
  • Since it's only black and white, the graphics aren't as clear as the colour one for the SNES
  • The Wonderswan ROMs haven't been translated into English, whereas the SNES ones have
  • There's no portrait of Jennifer (and since it's black and white, you wouldn't be able to see her health anyway)
  • There are no names or pictures by the dialogue so it's hard to tell who's speaking sometimes
  • The dialogue text goes over the screen, blocking some of your view
  • You can only scroll through the items in your inventory by equipping them; there's no list like in the SNES version
  • Jennifer walks even slower in the Wonderswan version than in the SNES version (and that's really saying something)

But there are just a couple pluses:

  • When climbing stairs, it fades to black for a few seconds and comes back to Jennifer at the top as opposed to waiting ten-plus seconds for her to climb
  • The word "Pause" shows up on the screen when the game is paused
  • The cursor stays in the same spot when you move rooms (really only nice if you're being chased, though)

Good analysis.

Though if I need Clock Tower, I'll play part 3 to get nice and sad.

Being completely genuine, that is interesting and thank you for sharing. I'm also craving more Spooks from Mr. Scoops now.
