@duskvamp is a chicken, so this summer I tried playing through some horror games with her. Silent Hill 2 and Fatal Frame 2 were both busts. She wasn't scared at all, just bored. She fell asleep during SH2. I guess they're a lot less scary when you're not actually playing and someone else is in the room.

To be fair, SH2 isn't that scary. If you want to try and scare someone with a Silent Hill game, you use 3 (or 1 if they are willing to look past it's visuals). Also, you can't ride shotgun for horror games; they have little to no impact unless you scare super easily.

I think we need a better idea of the kinds of games she's already played before we go suggesting. Has she already played the mainstays like the Silent Hills?

Probably Demon's Souls. I really want to read a book about Latria.

Co-Op pretty much dries up between 80-120. At around 120 you might get some Co-Op in Anor Londo and Oolacie. You best bet for getting Humanity that high a level that doesn't involve farming monsters (rats, baby skeletons, Humanity phantoms) is PvP.

If I could believe the pvp would be balanced and that you would always at least stand a fighting chance against invaders, I could buy this. But I doubt it. Maybe at launch it'll be fine, but how long before min-maxed pvp-oriented builds appear that more casual pve'ers stand little chance against? Has From EVER balanced a pvp game well enough to make anyone think mandatory pvp will stay "difficult, but fair" for long?

I'm hoping the rumored scaling elemental damage rather than the flat bonus Dark Souls currently has will help in that regard. The biggest issue with PvP in Dark Souls is the fact that you can output massive amounts of damage at extremely low levels thanks to the Lightning and Chaos enchants. With that (hopefully) fixed, all they have to do is figure out poise and PvP will be in a much better place.

I really hope the scaling stuff EpicNameBro was talking about turns out to be true. I'll trade always getting invaded for no more SL1 Lightning Zweihander +5 invasions if it means that I'll be fighing people that are mostly on par with me equipment-wise. The equipment gaps is what always killed PvP for me (that and the Wolf Ring having more poise than some full sets of armor).

I would shit my pants in excitement if that was really gonna happen!

Still: They should absolutely do that. Fuck my pants, I'll get a new pair!

Also: If they're gonna play the PC version, hopefully they'll be smart enough to DSfix and DSCfix it (it's really not tricky at all). Heck, after that they could so easily summon themselves whenever cooperation seems needed.

Arguably the most important part of DSfix, the FPS unlocker, is broken right now due to the recent update.

I'm still not into the way it looks, but I am into the fact that the new infinite(?) folders allows me to have everything on one page now. The multi-tasking reminds me of my old PalmPre though.
