It's just a shame that they haven't evolved themselves with the standards set by other products in the industry. They seem to have existed in their own bubble.

They remind me a lot of Bethesda in that way. I want to keep loving the things that they do but they seem a bit too content to keep coasting by on their old successes. Perhaps their new IP will be something truly impressive again......

@starvinggamer: Agreed. It was released in 1996 but only experienced in 1997. I think it's equally accurate to describe it as either, really. But then again, drawing such a sharp distinction between "years in gaming" is pretty silly, and this whole thing demonstrates exactly why.

@hark: They would have been burning monopropellant to lower the periapsis. Basically shrinking that side of the orbit from one that was close-to-but-not-quite the orbit that the Mun does. So unfortunately no. Unless there's some crazy orbital maneuvering trick I don't know about, which is far from impossible.

@orzbluefog: This is really cool! So with the addition of the solid fuel stage, you could prooobably make it. (The BEAST crew... less likely.)

I started playing avidly quite recently, definitely had several "aha!" moments while reading through this. Thanks very much!

I watched all six movies back to back earlier this year (yeah, bad idea) which was the first time I'd seen any of them as an adult.

Episodes 1 and 2 were much worse than I remembered from when I was a kid. And, to my surprise, I thought Return of the Jedi was almost as bad.

@mirado: There's no doubt that death in the blink of an eye is a long time fixture of games like this. Whether it should be, or whether that is a good feature of roguelike(like)s, is a quite different question, and one that a game designer would definitely want to think carefully about. But it seems like a pretty deliberate feature of this game, and obviously it appeals to some people and not to others.

Personally I prefer the design of something like the Binding of Isaac, where a single mistake or bad luck situation is unlikely to immediately kill you. It's still hard, but it lets you scrape through to a comeback more often. Which is fun!

I didn't know who they were when I came into this thread and then I listened to those songs and I was like oh they're those kind of obnoxious sounding people that I've never liked.

(I don't have particularly strong feelings here and I know absolutely nothing about the band themselves, I just have an instinctive mild repulsion to their sound. Same with RHCP.)
