@jondan & @sleepinglesson: It looks like there were some changes to how Android follows HTTP redirects in Marshmallow that was messing with downloads. I've just hit publish on an updated build that should take care of the problem and it should be available in the Play Store within a few hours. With any luck, this will be the last emergency fix for a while!

@espiox: Although I would like to look at getting some iOS 9-specific features added, things have been pretty busy 'round these parts, so unfortunately I'm not sure when I'll have the time to dive in.

@ames: If the app is working for you right now, nothing that's going to change related to this should break it. If the app is broken for you right now and you're running Android 4.1 or newer, then we'll definitely be able to get you back up and running. If the app is broken right now and you're on an Android version earlier than 4.1, we're playing it by ear for the moment.

I've looked into the connection issues and it appears that there have been some changes to the Giant Bomb servers that are preventing them and GBVB from talking when running under Android versions prior to 5.0 (Lollipop). I have a question out to Giant Bomb's Top Men, but the bottom line for you folks is that, if the changes are temporary, things should go back to normal on their own. If they're permanent, I'll need to push out an update that fixes things for Android 4.1+ (Jelly Bean), but drops support for 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

With a bit of luck we'll have things sorted out by the beginning of next week. Thanks for hanging in there!

I'm the developer of Giant Bomb Video Buddy and I recently starting receiving reports that users on Android versions < 5.0 are receiving connection errors 100% of the time. I did some investigating and it appears that the issue is that giantbomb.com is now rejecting all TLSv1 cipher suites. Is this going to be the case going forward, or is it just a temporary configuration?

I ask because, if it is a permanent change, I will need to push an update that manually enables TLSv1.1 for users of Android 4.1 and newer, but drops support for users of Android v4.0.4 (which only supports TLSv1). They're in the minority, but I wanted to check before giving anyone the boot.

Edit: I've been in an HTTPS mindset lately and initially overlooked the option of having the app fall back to an unencrypted connection on devices that can't readily support TLSv1.1. That would be an alternative for older devices if TLSv1 support is gone for good.

@cbirdsong: I can make a note to look into it, but I haven't had a lot time to mess with GBVB lately, so I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to give an ETA.

@dandyshlonglegs: I'm afraid I'm not able to reproduce that issue, so the options for troubleshooting are a bit slim. When in doubt, uninstalling and reinstalling is always a good thing to try, but it's also possible that the preview just still has some kinks to work out. The good news is that it doesn't appear to be something fundamental with Marshmallow, so it should be back to good by the time the OS is ready for release.

@kylenalepa: Sorry I didn't spot your post sooner. Unfortunately, the most likely source of the trouble in this sort of situation would be a network issue between you and the server storing the videos, and that isn't something that would be fixable in the app. The silver lining is that these sorts of issues are usually temporary and tend to clear up on their own within a few days. If you're still experiencing the issue, one thing you could try is downloading the videos first, both to see how quickly they download and to see if the playback issues persist with local files.
