@jjbsterling: Could you explain what "pulling an Advanced Warfare" means? I played a decent amount of Advanced Warfare, but have been out the loop with Call of Duty for a while now.

When the game was first released, you could find different weapon variants in supply drops, and you could get supply drops from just playing the game. After a while, they made it so you could unlock variants in paid supply drops. Variants typically reduced one stat, while boosting another. An example might be raising fire rate while lowering accuracy, or raising damage while lowering fire rate. The problem was there were three or four weapon variants that outclassed every other weapon in the game. If you were lucky enough to have one drop, or you paid money for supply drops until you unlocked one, you would have a massive advantage in every gun battle.

Think if the best PVP weapons in Destiny could be unlocked randomly in paid loot crates, and you can get a good idea how messed up this was.

This is why people are looking at the new system and saying "yeah, but there's going to be a way to pay to unlock Infinite Warfare weapon variants, isn't there?" It's better that we can just make the weapons we want, but just how much salvage that will cost, and just how much they'll push people towards buying crates will remain to be seen. That question likely won't be answered until at least a month or two after launch, but there's no way supply drops won't be coming back in some form.

Titanfall 2: Funny thing is, I was downloading it overnight and then didn't touch my PS4 for a few days -- I was just idling at the menu screen without realizing it. So I only got around to playing maybe 3 matches, only for the first weekend. But I liked the grapple and the ground slide, the movement still felt good. I didn't get a titan, so I don't know how they feel -- people were saying they're way weaker? I'm cautiously optimistic about Titanfall 2. Been playing the first game again for a few nights now. I feel like as long is it isn't a step backwards, I'll end up getting it for PS4.

Yeah, if you played three matches and never earned a Titan, you probably only played in on the first weekend. It's a shame you didn't get more time with the game.

I played both weekends, ended up hitting both level caps, and really enjoyed myself during the second weekend. The Titans are weaker because of the new battery system. If players work together, pilots can steal batteries from enemy Titans, and give them to teammate Titans. This gives them a temporary shield that doesn't recharge, but acts and extra health. Once I understood that point, I ended up really liking the new system.

With Titanfall 1, the situation was "someone is on my Titan, I need to get out and shoot him, or he's going to destroy my Titan in about 20 seconds." In Titanfall 2, it's become "someone is on my Titan, I'm going to lose a chunk of Titan health, and then I need to quickly find and kill that guy before he gets away with my battery."

I think the new system is so much better, because it allows you to stay in your Titan without the need to waste one of your perks on the anti-rodeo electric smoke. Once the fight is over, and it's safe to do so, you can then climb out of your Titan and take your battery back.

This is a really nice round-up, thanks. The Infinite Warfare stuff just feels like an information overload -- I watched all of these and still don't have a good sense of all the mechanics at work. I guess I'll get a better impression when the "Beta" arrives and people can break down everything/show the menus.

I know just what you mean. My main concern with this game is going to be the weapon variants, and the idea of the developers making weapon balance adjustments. Apparently, you'll be able to earn salvage by playing multiplayer, and use that as currency of sorts to upgrade your weapons. Upgraded weapons will have better gun perks, as explained in that second video. I think you'll also be able to dismantle guns you don't want for more currency, but they haven't really explained how you'll get new guns in the first place, other than eventually being able to upgrade them.

Of course, they'll have to put in a supply drop system to keep investors happy, so how all that will work together could potentially lead to a serious problem with the game. Again, this is especially true when it comes to balance adjustments.

Imagine this scenario: After playing for many hours, I've finally earned enough salvage to upgrade my favorite weapon. I have a very low chance of earning this weapon in a supply drop, so this is the best way that I can get it, without paying money for the "super extra good chance of an epic drop premium supply drop" type of supply drop.

Now, in this scenario, my favorite weapon is my favorite weapon because it's extremely effective. Low recoil, high damage, good fire rate, etc. So I use all my salvage to pay for the epic version of this weapon. Thanks to supply drop system, I'd have to play for weeks to earn that much salvage again. They want to encourage people to play for supply drops, much like Black Ops III did. In that game, you have a 1% chance of getting a weapon, and even then, it could be a crappy melee weapon that you don't want.

So, I spend all my salvage to upgrade my favorite weapon, and then the developers decide that weapon is too overpowered, so it gets nerfed. My new gun perks are still there on my newly acquired epic variant weapon, but the gun now has way more recoil and takes an extra bullet to kill at longer ranges. Now a similar gun is arguably the best in the game, but I haven't used any salvage on that weapon, because it didn't used to be very good. I only own the basic variant of that one.

I hope that I'm wrong, but I really can see all that happening. Think about the buff / nerf nonsense that the VMP and the Vesper went through in Black Ops 3--with adjustments still being made as recently as last month--and imagine all that happening after players spent loads of hard-earned in-game currency to get the best versions of those weapons.

Anyhow, speaking of betas and shooters, I saw you playing a bit of the Titanfall 2 tech test the other week. What did you end up thinking of it? Depending on my feelings of the Infinite Warfare beta, I think there's a strong possibility that Titanfall 2 might end up as my shooter of choice this year.

First day of the COD XP event means the first day of multiplayer info, and they've just revealed quite a bit. Aside from the new trailers, we also now know the following:

The Infinite Warfare beta will be starting Oct. 14th for PS4 owners. Xbox One owners will be able to play the beta at a later date, and the beta will not be coming to PC. As of now, you can only get in the beta by pre-ordering, but if the previous beta is any indication, there's a good chance they'll let other players in towards the end. The actual beta length has not been announced, other than it will last a minimum of three days.

All 16 multiplayer maps from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will be coming to the remaster. The game will ship with ten maps, and the other six will be made available in December.

Other than that, there are a few new trailers today, so here they are:

And finally, here's a COD community member explaining some of Infinite Warfare's new gameplay elements, while also showing off the new remake of Terminal:

I was initially kind of cold on this one. It was a lot like the first one, where I felt like it was fine, but not really anything special. I was also put off by some of the things around the core game. Like, by default it put you into a "room" with other people (all members of the same, I forget the word, but group or whatever (I joined the Giant Bomb one)), and there's no way to set voice chat to always be off. That also means making sure I mute people at the start of every match, which is a hassle. And, in 2016, I shouldn't have to do that. There should be something in the settings that I can select to never have to hear other people talk. If I want to do that, I'll party up with people I know, and talk with them.

There are a lot of games that do this, but I've found an easy solution. Just make a private locked party chat session, and then there's no more need to mute anyone.

I'm really pumped for Titanfall 2, I thought Titanfall was ace myself and was sad to see it wasn't so long lived but I'm hoping T2's going to stick around and be a great game. The GoW4 Gamescom gameplay has left me a bit impartial (I'll still get it but only once I'm able to get me PC up and running) and Battlefield One still has my interest. COD:IW, however, does not.

Once we know if Infinite Warfare is getting a beta--which should be as early as tomorrow, seeing that the COD XP event will be starting then--I look forward to making this thread again, after we've all had our chances to play preview / beta / test versions of these games. It'll be interesting to see how much that changes the results.

Worms Battlegrounds is pretty much Armageddon with online play. WMD seems redundant.

Not really. Battlegrounds had a fairly non-Armageddon game feel to it, from movement to weapons. The rope felt way off, the classes made the game feel too different, the dynamic water slowed the performance of the game, the game lagged online, you couldn't set which weapons appear in crates, etc.

This looks cool, but they just released a Worms game 2 years ago. How many gosh darn Worms games do we need, other than, of course, a remake of Worms 3D because that was a crazy idea.

I might check this out when it goes on sale or comes to GWG or PS+ some day but who is the audience who is spending $30 on Worms every 2 years?

Do you have any idea how many Worms games there are?

Worms (1995)

Worms Reinforcements (1996)

Worms: The Director's Cut (1997)

Worms 2 (1997)

Worms Armageddon (1999)

Worms World Party (2001)

Worms 3D (2003)

Worms Forts: Under Siege (2004)

Worms 4: Mayhem (2005)

Worms: Open Warfare (2006)

Worms (2007)

Worms: Open Warfare 2 (2007)

Worms: A Space Oddity (2008)

Worms 2: Armageddon (2009)

Worms Reloaded (2010)

Worms: Battle Islands (2010)

Worms Ultimate Mayhem (2011)

Worms Revolution (2012)

Worms for Facebook (2012) (Closed: 2013)

Worms 3 (2013)

Worms Clan Wars (2013)

Worms Battlegrounds (2014)

Worms World Party Remastered (2015)

Worms 4 (2015)

Worms WMD (2016)

Ask most long-time Worms fans , and they'll tell you that ever since Worms Armageddon, the series has gone way off track. Every worms game since Armageddon has been missing important features offered in that game, and almost every new feature has been gimmicky at best, and a poor idea at worst.

Ironically, 17 years later, Team 17 may have actually made a good Worms game again. The new features don't seem like gimmicks, and all of them can be disabled. The Ninja Rope is back to it's proper feel. There's an absolute ton of weapons and items. The new crafting options give players something to do when it's not their turn. Vehicles and turrets add another layer to the importance of Worm placement, without feeling too overpowered. It all actually seems like a well designed sequel.

The only thing of note that seems to be missing is a level editor, which I suppose is understandable in this day and age of copyright infringement obsession. I believe worried lawyers were the reason no one ever could share gun paint customization in the latest Call of Duty, so I guess it make since here as well, unfortunately.

I've been watching some videos on the new game, and this really does look good! For anyone who has been playing it, what do you think of the game so far?

This is incredible. I've loved this game for ages, and while it was neat to see a renewed interest in it from being featured on Game Grumps, this is on a whole other level. In addition to all the new courses, fans also added new art, a new intro, and even new music from Star Bomb.

All because Aaron and Danny were sad when they finished the original game, and said that they wished they had more levels to play. That's pretty awesome.

Does anyone know of any similar situations where fans have developed rom hacks for specific You Tubers? The closest I can think of are the versions of The Stanley Parable that included some You Tuber specific alterations.

I didn't want to make a new thread for this, but all six Titans have now been revealed in a new trailer:

Now if they'd only reveal the game modes, weapons, and abilities.

Is polling not anonymous?

If memory serves it is not only anonymous but somewhat random, but the thing about the US is depending on where you hold the polls you can make them say pretty much anything you want. If you were to poll NY state you would probably get a landslide in the opposite direction that you would get from a place like Montana.

But that variance is why national polls poll people around the country, not just one region, and why state polls mention which state they're for. Legitimate polling companies make their money from being accurate, so they aren't especially incentivized to skew the results all over the place. There are plenty of sites you can look at that aggregate the various polls and project the eventual election outcome based on that aggregation. The trick isn't finding a poll whose outcome you like, it's trying to pull in data from as many different polls as possible to find the trends that enable an accurate projection.

Thank you for the informative response, personally I subscribe to Nate Silvers fivethirtyeight Mostly because not only is Nate Silver right more often then he is wrong, but he has freely said "this election cycle is a nightmare to predict and I could totally be wrong."

http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/?ex_cid=rrpromo#odds

Going by that website, Trump and Hillary were about 50/50 on July 30th, 89/11 on August 14th, and 77/22 right now. So then, what happened to change the numbers that drastically? If nothing substantial did happen, why should any of these numbers be believed if they fluctuate that wildly?

..but yeah, I keep my distance from politics usually since it is so toxic, but I recently voted to leave the EU and believe or not that doesnt make me a racist.

(because apparently that's all it boils down to)

Anyway there's another thread for that.

Just wondering, but did being told "if you support this, you must be / probably are a racist" make you less likely or more likely to vote the way you did? Because if Trump wins the election, I think people fed up with accusations like that are going to be large determining factor.
