The Evil That Men Do

Games are a great source of escapism: they allow us to get away with some horrid acts when no one's looking. These following games excelled at bringing out the worst in me.

Ah, but in Thief did you ever actually kill anyone?  It could have been a lot worse, at least for me.

You should add Roller Coaster Tycoon to this list.

Just Cause 2.  Strapping people to gas cans, shooting the can, watching the person fly up with the container and blow up . . .

I'm sorry, what?

Haha, I haven't played the game yet but it sounds...promising. I have it in my GameFly queue so I look forward to some hilarious rag doll physics in action.

That's another popular franchise I've never touched. Mind recommending me one ?

@Killjoi: Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 is my favorite.

I used to love in X-COM, using a Blaster Launcher to level half the map... despite the possibility of civilians being in the blast area! Mwahahahaha!!!

Wasn't Vice City the one game in the GTA 3 trilogy not to include hookers?
A wonderful list it is.

Thanks.

If I recall, Vice City just made it harder to pick up escorts. You could only do it during night time with a swanky car. You also had to honk to get them in. Their selectivity made their eventual deaths somewhat ironic. BTW this paragraph makes me sound like a total psycho but I guess the damage was already done.

heh, I suppose I just didn't try hard enough then.  Reminded me that over the last 13 years I haven't finished a single GTA game.

Viva Pinata:  "Murder and incest, all for candy."

I know, right? It's like the most disturbing cutesy E-rated game ever!

Haha, great list.

By the way, I think you should get some help. I know someone you might like to talk to. There's no shame in admitting you have a problem.

Heh, don't I know it :p

Thanks for the recommendation though ;)

That's probably the best summary of viva pinata I've ever read. Kudos on this excellent list!

Thank you, you have finally solved a meme's origins for me.  Over on Rock, Paper, Shotgun and maybe Eurogamer and other websites whenever something unfortunate happens like a game not turning out as well as it could have, the comments section are littered with one "What a shame" after another.  Now I'm finally enlightened.  Oh, and nice list.

Yet another stellar list! The Sims 3 description really got to me :P Me personally, I'm not one of the people who could handle the gratifying experience of humiliating my Sims by forcing them to wet themselves, then trapping them in an object-less four-walled room with no doors. I'd always feel harsh for doing so... which come to think of it, is probably more disturbing that I show some genuine compassion towards little polygonal shapes that aren't real than it would be if I just casually watched them suffer over and over. Nah, it really isn't ;P

Although watching them panic over a fire is deviously entertaining, I'll give you that >_> <_< Also I should mention you may of just sold me on Viva Pinata.

If this is an ever-growing list, I'd also recommend one of the inFAMOUS games to be up there to. Cole can be a right bully if you want him to be and, like most tend to criticise because of this, there's no solid foundation for him to act that way other than to just be a complete asswipe. But oh is it fun to watch the results when the crowds of people swarm to a TV whenever a News Broadcast is going on, and then you just dump a cluster grenade in the middle.

@Abyssfull: Cheers mate!

The Sims 3 addition was inspired by Ryan being a real dick to his sims in a quicklook. I never even knew the game could be twisted in such a way. Thanks for the Infamous suggestion btw.

Given this list, it is probably hard to believe but I normally take the super-saint route in most games. Especially in Infamous because I love playing the hero. I did complete the evil playthrough in the first game for completionist sake but I was also wincing every time I had to kill an innocent. As you said, Cole just doesn't have any good reason to do so and I always found it to be at odds with his greater objective of taking down the Beast.

There was also something about Empire City that just made me wanna save every citizen. I wish the game kept count of how many times I rezzed people in the middle of a heated battle (on hard no less - and "infamous hard" gets pretty ridiculous at times). In In In Infamous 2, I didn't even bother with the evil playthrough and I probably never will. The good ending was just so damn...good. It's one of my favorites and I won't want it sullied by playing the alternate version.
