Gauging interest for a Disgaea D2 blog series

There likely won't be a regular Sparky's Update this week since I've been crazy busy this last week. However, with Disgaea D2 on its way probably Wednesday or Thursday, I wanted to gauge interest from my regular readers on whether or not they'd like to see a blog series on Disgaea D2 similar to what I did with Disgaea 4. I might just do it anyways, because I'm a crazy bastard and I really feel like the games are criminally undermarketed here in the States, but I wanted to get some input from you folks (and honest input at that, too) on if you'd like to see that sort of thing and what you'd like me to cover. Just the main story? The Item World expeditions? Post-game content? Hit me up. I can't guarantee I'll cover it all (I'm terrible about completing things like the pirate post-game stuff), but I'll definitely cover it if I encounter it or spend time with it.

@sparky_buzzsaw: I'd certainly read it, dunno if I'd have anything to say. Never dug the series that much. Too grindy and the artstyle doesn't do it for me. But i definitely respect it and the people who play it. Those games are stuff of the hardest core gaming variety.

btw I wish GB had an easy way for blog writers to see if people read their work, cuz comments really undersell true readership and/or readership approval.

@thunderslash: absolutely yes, you should. The story's my least favorite of the four, but mechanically, it introduced a lot of neat stuff.

I should really open up that shrinkwrapped copy of Disgaea 3 I bought a few years ago.

I would be interested in hearing about the game. It is the first Disgaea game I have really been interested in since 2. I loved the original characters and am happy to see them return.

Go ahead. I'd actually be curious about what new gameplay features have been implemented since Disgaea 2, because there's been a heck of a lot of Disgaea games since then at last count. I also remember getting horribly addicted to Geo Panels for a long time with the original, largely because they're a lot of fun to get right. Even with that diversion, the whole "infinite dungeons" thing eventually wore me down. But hey, I'm intermittently playing Terraria again, so it's not like I'm above doing the same shit over and over.

Absolutely don't worry about spamming everyone's notifications by the way. I mean, I clearly don't.

@dankempster: Cool! I'll definitely do that then. Four games in and I'm STILL not the best at geo blocks and panels, so I'm sure I'll learn something too.

As a curious player of video games who is still yet to dip his toes into the terrifying ocean that is the Disgaea franchise, you could definitely count me in as a reader. Especially if you do decide to open up the series with a mechanical introduction - that might finally be enough to get me to put my fears of being overwhelmed to one side and actually try to play one of them.

Short version - colour me interested.

@video_game_king: Enduring was very much the inspiration for the original blog series, so you're right on the mark. Thanks for the input!

In a world with Enduring Final Fantasy VII and Renegade Photo, I'm sure there's room for this (unless I'm completely misunderstanding how you're gonna handle this).

@arbitrarywater: I don't care so much for the attention either, but I don't want to clog up people's Notification feed with some godawful thing they'll never read. Not that I suspect they read my crapola anyways, but you get the idea. In any case, I think I'll spend at least one or two blogs talking about the mechanics, both new and old. Those games can get awfully frustrating if you're approaching them as a new player, so it'd be cool to write something down (and maybe convert it into a guide) as a basic intro to Disgaea-ing.

@sparky_buzzsaw: Nah, I'm just being a snarky jerk who never got over the realization that Disgaea isn't so much a Strategy RPG as it is a Strategy RPG breaking simulator. I'd just say write if you feel like it. I write a lot of the stuff I write for my own sake and not necessarily because I know it will get attention.

@arbitrarywater: You've, uh... you've just written the entire blog series in one well-written paragraph. Goddamn it, Arbitrary.

I like the part where you throw dudes on other dudes to level up the dudes so you can more efficiently level up your dudes and then you de-level your dudes back to 1 but they keep most of their stats so you can level your dudes by throwing dudes on dudes again. Dood.
