Every six months or so, I like to create a list of games I'm stoked to see in the months to come. I'd also like note that while it's still December, I haven't been as excited for an upcoming E3 as I am this year's.
The more I see of the reboot of SimCity, the more I like it. Sure, EA will undoubtedly find some skeezy ways to make money off microtransactions, and will likely hold back a ton of content that you can purchase practically day one from an online store. But it's been a hell of a drought for good city builders, and I'm looking forward to it ending.
Level-5 hasn't interested me much this generation, but Dark Cloud 1 & 2 and Rogue Galaxy are among my favorite action-RPGs of all time. This looks like a return to form for the company, and I'm super excited to see how it turns out. Doesn't hurt that the combat looks accessible, too. After the mess of mechanics in White Knight Chronicles, I'm looking forward to something a bit more traditional.
While I'm still disappointed this looks more like a platformer than an adventure game, I'm definitely willing to give Ron Gilbert the benefit of the doubt. We'll see how it turns out.
This game looks absolutely gorgeous. I enjoyed what I played of the first and second Sly Cooper games this last year, so this is definitely on my radar.
I've yet to dip my toes in the Fire Emblem pond, so this might be the game that changes things.
This one looks like a rough, tough tactical game, and that's usually up my alley. I want to see how it turns out before deciding whether or not it's a purchase, but even if it's halfway decent, I'm sure it'll end up in my Pile of Shame when it gets cheaper.
Starcraft II is going to be one of those games I likely play ten years from now. It's that good. Heart of the Swarm looks to continue that.
Come on, it's more Bioshock. That should be enough.
While I may never pick up a Nintendo Wii U (still too early in the console's life cycle to say), this game looks just terrific. I'm stoked to see how it turns out, and if it revitalizes the LEGO franchise in the ways it so desperately needs.
Judging from the trailers, it looks like Rockstar has regained a little bit of its sense of flair for its flagship series. That's good, but it's only one half of the equation. If they take the Red Dead Redemption route and include a lot of fun, interesting things to do around the main quest, I'll be picking up GTA V. If they don't, this will be the first in the main series I'll pass on.
This is a bit of a dark horse, but I'm a big NIS fan and I'm looking forward to their take on the action-RPG.
Will this be the last great gasp of the PS3? Will this be released in the second quarter? We'll see. It looks good, though. Damn, does it look good.
We've seen practically nothing about this game, and it's one of my most anticipated of 2013, simply because Dead Island was and is one of my favorite new IPs. If this follows the Borderlands 2 route of minor refinement and "more of a good thing," I'll be perfectly happy. If it's more than that, you'll likely see this ear the top of my GOTY '13 list.
Because I need a little more SMT in my life.
