Oh look, it turns out that every single media outlet was wrong, and my simple logic about how this would work is correct. I told everyone to chill the hell out and not jump to conclusions, and OH LOOK.

I don't think that's a fair assertion to make, considering Microsoft has been anything but clear on this issue. Xbox Support, Major Nelson, and even Phil Harrison have all stated contradictory things related to used games. No one's jumping to conclusions, Microsoft just isn't being clear. This is yet again unclear, as Polygon is citing their "sources." So really, who knows at this point.

I think the promise that you can resell your game after you're done with it is a large part of why the general public purchases $60 games.

I could do with some video games.

Because backwards compatibility requires the actual hardware of the previous console to be present in the console. It makes it much more expensive to include an Xbox 360 inside the Xbox One, so it's wiser to leave it out. Console innards are vastly different than getting a new video card. This is one reason why people called the Wii "two GameCubes taped together." Its innards are pretty much a souped up GameCube, so hardware emulation was easily feasible.

Software emulation is another option for backwards compatibility, but emulating the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 is literally impossible with current hardware. Not even the highest-end consumer PC has the capability to emulate them at this point. I think the general rule is that 10 times the amount of processing power is required to emulate the device, and then that doesn't even account for having to actually get it working in the first place. The Xbox 360 tried to do software emulation with the original Xbox, and we all know how that went.

So it's both a technical and an economic limitation.

If you're talking about 3DS games, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is pretty fantastic. It took me about 10-15 hours to play through, though, and there's not much replayability (unless you're the completionist sort), so if you're looking for something that'll hold your attention a bit longer it'd probably be the new 3DS Animal Crossing.

The 3DS Castlevania has received middling reviews at best, and I've heard only negative things from friends who bought the game.

XONE is worse than XBONE. I was in support of XB1.

If they can back this up with Steam style sales, and updated pricing (i.e. a five year old game isn't still priced at $40-$60), then I am okay with this.

They didn't address the "online only" rumors, used games, or Xbox Live subscriptions, literally the three things that I was most interested in hearing about.

Did they not say something along the lines of "using your current subscription" for XBL? Maybe I misinterpreted, but I took that as "yes, you still have to pay".

I was barely paying attention, so they probably said that. That's another strike against Xbox.

Wouldn't be an issue if the wings were boneless. Just saying.
