Just recently started going back to legitimately finish all of the original six Mega man games (I had previously finished Mega Man 7), I finished this game about a month ago (so May 2010). Of the original six, this is one of my favorite, right behind Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 4.

Again, part of my quest to finish the classic Mega Man games (Mega Men?). So far this is my favorite of the bunch, as I really enjoyed the stage design, the bosses, and--naturally--the music. In my opinion, this game nailed the balance between difficult, yet still fun and unique.

I've finished it on NES and the 3DS Virtual Console.

I finished this one a couple years ago, and it was moderately entertaining. Having been the only Mega Man game I completed for a long time, it was sort of an interesting phenomenon, but now there has been a resurgence in my attempts at finishing these (punishingly difficult) games.

One of my favorite Xbox 360 games, I didn't finish (or even purchase) Mass Effect until about December of 2009. I went through it pretty fast, and enjoyed every minute. Still plan on S-ranking this sucker some day.

Finished this game earlier this year, and enjoyed it a whole lot more than Mass Effect (although I thought the original game had a better overall plot, Mass Effect 2 did a better job with the character development). This is another game that I plan on S-ranking some day.

Probably my most played game of 2009, and one of my most played games so far in 2010. I have played through the campaign three times, played enough Wrecking Crew (local multiplayer) to get every achievement, and played an estimated 400 hours of online multiplayer (mostly rolling with Metroid545 and jakob187).

Another game that I spent a ton of time in (probably around 100 hours or so), I've gotten every smash, every billboard, and every super jump. Even though this game can't "technically" be completed until I've finished every event (something I'm in the process of), I've played enough to count it as complete.

My favorite game in the Halo series (which isn't saying much, considering I don't really like the franchise that much), I played through this game several years ago on my crappy desktop PC on low settings and laggy gameplay. I still enjoyed it, but I also spent several hours with the multiplayer.

My friend and I played through the co-op over a weekend or two, and that's what really made this game enjoyable (otherwise I would have been bored out of my mind). I never spent any time with the multiplayer, aside from some local matches with my friend.

This fantastic game was finished somewhere around 2005 or 2006. It continues to be one of my favorite GameCube games. The wide variety of events to participate in made this game competent despite its strange premise.

I anticipated this game so much that I was dreaming about it--I'm not even joking. It wasn't as great as its console predecessor, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit, and even played around with an Action Replay after finishing the whole game.

This game I honestly only played for achievements. It wasn't worth it. I won't be finishing the second game.

Despite all of the praise this game received, I really did not enjoy it at all. I hated having to backtrack to collect required items, and really wanted a more linear experience.

After skipping Metroid Prime 2, I actually really enjoyed this game. Metroid Prime 3 is a lot more linear than Metroid Prime, which I think is what helped it to be more enjoyable to me. Also, the well-implemented motion controls make this game a whole ton of fun.

I think my friend convinced me to buy this, despite my dislike of Metroid Prime. I did not like this game, and used an Action Replay to get through it due to the fact that I didn't enjoy backtracking at all. The multiplayer was pretty fun.

Oddly enough I love the 2D Metroid games for the same reason I hate the 3D Metroid games; the exploration and the backtracking. This game was actually my brother's, but I still stole it and played it on my GBA SP.

Another great 2D Metroid game, I played through this game on a friend's Game Boy Advance over the course of a couple weeks. It's a great game, and I really enjoyed it.

My favorite 2D Metroid game (out of the ones that I played, meaning not including Metroid or Metroid II), I absolutely loved this game from start to finish. Not only was the atmosphere incredible, the exploration made this game very rewarding.

One of the few movie based games that I've ever finished, I played Spider-Man 2 on my GameCube in 2005 or 2006. I only played it every once in a while, but it was still a lot of fun. I finished the story after a couple months of here-and-there playing.

This game I had come close to finishing several times over the course of about three years. The first time my uncle installed the game on my family's laptop, and I was getting close to finishing it when I forgot the password to the Steam account. After that I started playing it on a friend's Xbox, and I got to Ravenholm before I moved on. Then, I bought The Orange Box and finally finished it on that.

Same with Half-Life 2, I started this game but never finished it a couple times before actually finishing it on The Orange Box (along with getting every achievement).

Same with the two aforementioned games, I started this one and never finished it before actually finishing it on The Orange Box.

I've played Portal several times now; on a friend's 360 (Portal: Still Alive), on The Orange Box, and even on my Mac. I have only finished it on The Orange Box, however.

Another game that you can't technically complete, but I played so many matchmaking matches with my friends that I would count this one as finished.

I really enjoyed this game despite some of the hate that it received. I loved the style and the Nolan North prince was a great character. The gameplay moves along at a quick, smooth pace making for a very enjoyable experience. I might have to go back and collect all of the Light Seeds some day.

I finished this game both by myself and in coop before my save file got corrupted and then my disc broke. I enjoyed it, but it's not as good as most people say it is.

I picked this game up for pretty cheap on Goozex and played through the campaign on Hard (which isn't saying much with this game). I didn't really play much of the multiplayer (the shooting doesn't really appeal to me, I'm more of a Call of Duty guy), but I still enjoyed it.

I have this game for both the Wii and the 360 (I didn't enjoy it THAT much, but received the Wii version as a gift and bought the 360 version for $5), but I've only finished it on the Wii. It was decently fun, especially in coop.

One of my favorite games of all time, I basically grew up with this game. As a somewhat younger gamer (I'm only 16), my dad and my uncle used to play this game all of the time in the early 2000s. I started playing it as well, and still crack it out on The First Decade to this day.

The expansion pack also got a lot of playtime from my dad and I. This game was fantastic, every mission presented some new and unique mechanics. One of few games that I can still go back to occasionally to this day.

A third real-time strategy game that I spent a ton of time with as a younger gamer, this is the only game I've played in the Age of Empires series (although I picked up a collection of AoE games a while back, I've never gotten around to playing them). This game was a ton of fun, and the cheats were fantastic.

I finished this game doing every single event, which was an incredible grind. I mean, I enjoyed the game but a lot of those events got old very fast (not to mention several little nitpicky things that I disliked about the game that constantly served to lessen the experience, e.g. GUARDS THROWING ROCKS).

Fantastic game. This was one of the first games I picked up when I finally got an Xbox 360. I still pop it in from time to time to enjoy some of the multiplayer greatness that is this game

Almost as good as Call of Duty 4, I agree with most criticisms of this game (too many "shock" moments, nonsensical story, etc). I didn't spend as much time in multiplayer as Call of Duty 4 either, mostly because this game has an effect of sending me into uncontrollable rage.

I don't even own this game, but I finished it in co-op one evening with my friend. I suck at it, but since I was logged into my Live account I still got the achievements for finishing it on Hard! So, yay!

I enjoyed this game a whole lot more than Alien Hominid, mostly because I was a little better at it (even though I still suck). I never finished Insane (due to how insane that would be), but I still managed to 200/200 this game.

Another Xbox Live Arcade game that I've finished, I never played Symphony of the Night on the PlayStation. This game took some time to get started, but once I began enjoying it I went into a collectionist craze, attempting to get the best equipment in the game (including the rare drop Crissaegrim, which essentially makes Alucard invincible).

There's a reason that this game and its sequel are among my top played games of all time on my Live account. Although this isn't a game that you can technically complete, I've probably spent somewhere between 20 or 30 hours playing this game, so if that's not complete, I don't know what is.

Unlike the first game you technically can complete this game by finishing ever stage and then completing the sequence mode (which I have done). I still have yet to finish the Smile achievement (due to the fact that it's impossible), but I'll get around to that someday.

I still have to finish the first of the Arkedo Series, but Swap was a short and great puzzle game. It only has around five levels, so it's a pretty small game, but for $3.00 I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys puzzle games.

My favorite of the Arkedo Series, Pixel is an amazing game (especially for $3.00). Although it consists of only six levels, I would definitely been willing to fork over $10.00 for this game as an Xbox Live Arcade game.

The first Ninja Gaiden I played through, I beat this game on the Wii Virtual Console after numerous fits of screaming. This game is brutally difficult, so playing it on the Wii (where it saves your state automatically) was a lifesaver.

Probably the easiest Ninja Gaiden game I've played, the only difficult part about Dragon Sword was the final boss. Even then, it wasn't a brutally difficult final boss like the original trilogy of Ninja Gaiden games.

I've played through both the Game Boy Advance version and the Xbox Live Arcade version.

A short little indie game, Fishing Girl is great for its art style. The game is probably about 15 minutes long, but with ingame achievements and great replayability it's worth the $1.00 price tag.

Probably one of my favorite Xbox Live Indie Games that I own, this game is especially fun when playing with friends. I've now played through this very short game around a dozen times with my friends, and a couple times alone.

Another Indie game I purchased during a craze, Miner Dig Deep was surprisingly... er... deep. This game is a lot of fun, and for only $3.00 I recommend it to anyone with an Xbox 360.

One of the most well-known games of all time, I've played enough of this game on so many platforms that I'll count this game as completed. Although I've never gotten a kill screen, I'm still going to count this one due to the sheer amount of time that I've spent playing Pac-Man.

Although I haven't gotten an S rank on Ms. Pac-Man for the XBLA, I completed all of the levels until it began looping levels (up to around 20 or so I believe). The last achievement in this game is impossible.

Currently my favorite Twisted Pixel game (although Comic Jumper miiiight change that), I've played through 'Splosion Man in both single and multiplayer (initially the lag was killer, so it took me several months before I finished the multiplayer online with my friend).

One of few Sonic games that I've actually finished, this is the only Neo Geo Pocket game that I've ever finished (and it is probably going to be one of my favorites when I return to the system). This game is a lot like Sonic Advance, although it borrows a lot from Sonic 2, which is not a bad thing.

Probably my favorite Sonic game, Sonic CD is a great game (although some of the music isn't incredibly... er.. good?). I played through this game awhile back, and it remained the only Sega CD and Sonic game that I'd completed for a while (although Snatcher and Pocket Adventure changed that,respectively).

I got The Maw for free, and after finishing it I realized it's probably not worth the $10.00 it goes for the the Marketplace (probably worth more like $5.00). That's not to say that it's not a good game, it's just a little lacking on content.

One of my favorite beat-em-ups of all time, Streets of Rage 2 is especially fun in multiplayer. I've played through the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game, which I managed to get for free (a great price for this game, although I would've been willing to pay more).

Another game that I managed to get for free, I played through the TMNT 1989 Classic Arcade version on Xbox Live Arcade. The game is relatively fun in multiplayer, but it's only a fairly competent beat-em-up, and doesn't really compare to other games, such as the sequel (Turtles in Time).

The fourth, and best, game in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe (although I don't really know if I can say that, having not played TMNT II or III). Nonetheless, the game is incredible, with great music, fun gameplay, and fantastic multiplayer.

An absolute turd in comparison to the SNES/arcade original, Re-Shelled was a complete disappointment from start to finish. It was only a little bit entertaining in multiplayer, but the TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE music and the addition of a third dimension, this game was a miserable game that attempted to rely completely on the nostalgia of the original.

A charming little puzzle game, P.B. Winterbottom was delightful from start to finish. The puzzles are challenging, but not impossible. The unique concept is very interesting, and it's awesome the variety of ways that each individual level can be completed.

Probably one of my favorite Xbox Live Arcade games, I picked up Shadow Complex for only $10. The game is a lot of fun, especially because of my love for the Metroidvania formula. I managed to 100% the game on my first run, but I still plan to go back and complete it a few more times.

A unique puzzle game, I got this game because I enjoyed the demo and because of the fact that I was donating to charity. I was surprised at how challenging it ended up being in the later levels, but that doesn't stop it from being a lot of fun.

Free is the right price for this... "game."

A pretty fun game, Resident Evil 5 doesn't deserve all of the crap it gets (I think mainly due to the fact that it's not "as good" as Resident Evil 4, which isn't to say that it's a bad game at all). This game is especially fun in multiplayer (not the terrible Versus DLC).

Currently my absolute favorite Sega Genesis game, Gunstar Heroes is a ton of fun. I played through the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game, but this game really shines in the cooperative play. A friend and I played through this in an afternoon, and it was AWESOME.

Gunstar Super Heroes isn't as good as its predecessor, but it is still a fantastic game in its own right. This is, without a doubt, one of the best action games on the Game Boy Advance. That's saying a lot, especially considering the pedigree of the system.

An awful, boring shooter that does NOT live up the the Jason Bourne name at all. I, admittedly, only trudged through this for the easy 1000 achievement points (and they weren't worth all of the pain and anguish this game caused).

Another game you can't technically "beat," I've played so much of Galaga over the years that I'm inclined to include this one. Also, I got 200G in the Arcade version, so it totally counts.

Pure is an amazing ATV racing game on the 360 and PS3, and comes highly recommended. The game is just a lot of light-hearted fun, from the soundtrack, to the scenery, to the amazing stunts. I definitely recommend this one, even if you're not an ATV fan. You may be surprised.

I don't even own Left 4 Dead, but I've played through all of the campaign missions on a friend's 360. This game is a ton of fun, but I really suck at it.

Probably one of my favorite 360 games, Nuts & Bolts may not be the same as its predecessors, but it's an incredible game in its own right. I really, really love the customization of vehicles in this game, which really hearkens back to the days of Legos. Maybe not the best game for a fan of Banjo-Kazooie, but definitely a great game for fans of creation and joy and happiness.

I actually found Blast Corps to be one of my favorite Rare games. The concept is just awesome: take some vehicles and BLOW EVERYTHING UP. Play this game, and be amazed.

Another classic arcade game that can't technically be finished, but I have 200G in the Arcade version so it counts! Ha!

I honestly did not enjoy Secret of Monkey Island as much as I thought I would. I'm a fan of point and click adventure games, but I guess the whole stigma surrounding this game overhyped it for me. I still enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say it's one of my favorites.

Legitimately, this is one of my favorite point and click adventure games. Beneath a Steel Sky has such an incredibly well-crafted universe, from the unique voice acted characters, to the intriguing science fiction plot. Highly recommended.

An awful game, terrible really. I finished this in coop with a friend, and did not enjoy one bit of it. It's free, though, so if you want some gamer points, you should download.

Shake it baby. Duke Nukem 3D is a classic, plain and simple.

This game surprised me. I wasn't expecting such a well designed adventure, especially since all of the reviews were calling it a Zelda-like. Sure, this game is like the Legend of Zelda, but it has enough about it that's unique. I look forward to its inevitable sequel!

I hold this game in higher regards than the oft-praised GoldenEye 007. Perfect Dark is just Rare's seminal first-person shooter. I love everything about this game, from the well-designed mazes that make up the game's levels, to the unique weaponry. I have yet to check out the game's XBLA release, but I will soon.

One of my favorite multiplayer games on the Xbox 360, Borderlands has been played for dozens upon dozens of hours. I've played through every piece of downloadable content as well, and heartily recommend those (except for Mad Moxxi, naturally).

Ah, yes. The game upon which my username is based. How can I say anything bad about this game? Star Fox is a classic, simple as that.

Star Fox 64 completely upped the ante from the original game, adding multiplayer, new vehicles, characters, etc. This is the best Star Fox game, in my opinion, although Star Fox Adventures was also pretty good...

...speaking of Star Fox Adventures. Yeah, this game was pretty good, it's just too bad that the game is less of a "Star Fox" game and more of a "third-person adventure" game. It's still a fantastic game in its own right, but maybe not deserving of the Star Fox moniker.

The second worst Star Fox game, I actually enjoyed this game for its multiplayer. My friends and I spent a lot of time blasting each other, and the integration of vehicles was pretty sweet. The game was super-short, though, and kind of sucked.

My least favorite Star Fox game, this is less based on the classic flight simulation gameplay, and is more of a strategy game. The multiple endings are all ridiculous and depressing, and hopefully non-canonical, the gameplay is slow-moving, the action scenes are uninteresting... I didn't like this game.

Ah yes, the Oracle games. These two are probably some of the best top-down Zelda games out there. Personally, I liked Oracle of Ages better.

This is because time travel is way cooler than changing the weather. You can't deny that.

I didn't really like Link's Awakening that much. It didn't really seem like a Zelda game in some locations, the dungeons were weird, and I didn't like the whole "IT WAS A DREAM" thing.

The first Zelda game I played. Yeah, I got into gaming late. That doesn't stop this game from being awesome.

The first top-down Zelda game I had played in a while, I wouldn't really say that Phantom Hourglass was great. That's not to say that it was a disappointment either, as it was still a good game, but it didn't have the same feel as the classic games. Maybe I don't like touch-screens.

I played through this on the Wii, and it is definitely a great game. Maybe a little short, maybe a little easy, but a fantastic game with only a few flaws.

Probably one of the more obscure games that I have played through, Famicom Tantei Club Part II is also one of my favorites. I love point-and-click adventure games with good stories and characters, and this one definitely has that. I'm thankful that Demiforce and Tomato took the time to translate this into English!

I enjoyed this action game quite a bit. It has some pretty unique concepts, like a grappling hook and a cool leveled weaponry system. The game isn't too long, but it was unfortunately overlooked by many gamers. If you have a chance, I highly suggest checking this game out.

SNES version:

Probably my favorite Zelda game, this was the first form I played A Link to the Past in. I can't say which version I liked best, but A Link to the Past is undoubtedly an amazing game.

GBA version:

The GBA version is equally awesome and just as enjoyable as the original game. Not much more to say about it.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords:

Four Swords is an awesome multiplayer game. Loved playing this with my friend. We finished it fairly quickly, but it is still a fairly memorable game.

Nothing much more can be said about this timeless classic!

Fun with friends, especially when betrayal is involved.

Probably my favorite of the Super Mario games. Great music, great graphics, great gameplay... the trifecta!

A fantastic single and multiplayer experience. Great way to introduce Mario to a new generation of gamers.

Yoshi's Island is a good game no matter what platform it's played on.

SNES version: My favorite game of all time, I first played through this game (emulated) on the SNES. Without a doubt, one of the most technically impressive (in terms of both sound and graphics) SNES games, coupled with an incredibly engaging story and endearing characters. This is an amazing game.

DS version: The DS version is probably the best version to play, not due to merely issues of price. This version has all of the features of the PlayStation version, plus more.

PS version: If you're going to play Chrono Trigger, don't play it on the PlayStation. The loading times absolutely cripple this game. Extras are cool, though.

After finishing off the other six games on the Neo Geo, I recently came back and finished this remake of Metal Slug 2. Like the other games in the franchise, it's a lot of fun and comes highly recommended, despite its short length.

I kicked off my summer of completing games with Fallout 3. I really didn't like this game as much as Oblivion, and only ended up spending around 15 hours in the wasteland. Plus, the ending was absolutely abysmal.

A cheap puzzle game from the dudes who made Auditorium, Fractal is a great, unique hexagonal puzzle game. I got through the game in about a day, so it's not incredibly long, but it's still a lot of fun.

One of many games in my long, long backlog, I finished Drill Dozer at the beginning of this summer. The game was boring, uninteresting, and repetitive. Unless you really, really like the idea of drilling through bricks for something around 15 or 20 levels (with little to no variation on that theme), then Drill Dozer is for you.

Actually one of the first Double Dragon games I finished, Super Double Dragon is currently my least favorite. The game isn't as fast-paced as a beat-em-up should be, and it's far too short and easy.

Recently finished up the freeware version of Cave Story. An incredible game (despite being brutally difficult at times), it's pretty unbelievable that this was created by one person. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this game and it comes highly recommended.

My favorite game in the Double Dragon franchise, Advance does everything right; fast-paced gameplay that refines the style of the NES and arcade installments, just the right amount of challenge, and excellent graphics, this game is a great beat-em-up.

My least favorite game in the original six Mega Man games, due mainly to the fact that the game had a lot of unfairly difficult stages, related to platform and enemy placement. Despite this (and the fact that I didn't really like the music in this game, either), it's a Mega Man game, so I still enjoyed it.

Arcade:

The arcade version of Double Dragon wasn't that great in my eyes. Like Super Double Dragon, this game moved too slowly, although unlike Super Double Dragon, this game seemed to be unfairly difficult in a lot of places (i.e. the killer blocks).

NES:

The NES version of Double Dragon is a lot better than the arcade game it is based on. Faster paced, better balanced, and improved stage design make this game a more compelling reason for a Double Dragon II (an incredible game in its own right).

Game Boy version:

My second favorite of the original Mega Man games, this game is up there with Mega Man 2 in terms of quality. Not only did it introduce the charge up technique, but it also has fantastic music (Dive Man, Pharaoh Man, Dr. Cossack's stage, etc).

Maybe it was just the Virtual Console port of Ocarina of Time, but this game seems as though it has not aged well at all. The controls are stiff with a GameCube controller, making the game unnecessarily difficult. Despite this, Ocarina of Time is undoubtedly a great game, it just hasn't withstood the test of time.

One of my lesser favorite Mega Man games, Mega Man 5 ranks slightly above Mega Man 3 in my ranking scale of the original six. That's not to say that Mega Man 5 is bad, it's just that this game didn't add much beyond "new robot masters GO!"

An interesting NES point-and-click adventure game from the developers behind Deja Vu and Uninvited, Shadowgate is pretty confusing.. in fact I highly recommend using a walkthrough. This game is still a lot of fun, though, but some of the puzzles are freaking crazy.

In my Mega Man ranking scale, Mega Man 6 is above Mega Man 5 but below the original Mega Man. This is for a few reasons; the music is much better than 5's, the Rush combinations are really cool, and the branching pathways make this game interesting even on multiple playthroughs.

Having completed the first Ninja Gaiden a while back, I finally got around to finishing off the other two. Naturally, these games are freaking brutal, especially considering the fact that you have a time limit on every stage, hundreds of enemies trying to murder you, and stages designed by torture artists.

Kirby Super Star is a fun game... until the Great Cave Offensive. The fact that you have to collect EVERY TREASURE really hinders an otherwise great game. The platforming sections where a lot of fun, it's just that Kirby isn't meant for a Metroidvania style of game.

After completing the first Donkey Kong Country, I didn't continue this franchise for a while. When I finally did finish Donkey Kong Country 2... it ended up being my least favorite in the franchise. I don't know why, it must be those brutally difficult stages where if you make a single mistake you have to start over the entire stage.

An amazing game, no doubt, this game would have been MUCH MUCH better had I not played the first Super Mario Galaxy first. Having played that game first, Galaxy 2 was just that... more Mario Galaxy. I really wish I would've played this game first, as I would've loved it a whole lot more.

A great old school classic, Ninja Gaiden III is probably the weakest of the original Ninja Gaiden trilogy. There are a few improvements over the previous two games, but there are some removals too, like items and moves from Ninja Gaiden II. Despite that, Ninja Gaiden III is still a lot of fun to play through, even to this day.

A brutally difficult game, the final boss' relative easy difficulty (especially in comparison to the Elizabeth Greene battle) surprised me. Nonetheless, it's a great game, just not necessarily worth $60.

A miserably repetitive game, Mirror's Edge had so much promise, but no delivery on those promises. The game, in concept, could have been great. DICE needed to just all out remove gunplay from the game.

Despite what has been said about this game, it is my favorite Donkey Kong Country game. The music isn't quite on par with Donkey Kong Country 2, but the gameplay is much better due to the fact that Dixie handles a lot easier than she did in Donkey Kong Country 2, and the fact that there is a severely reduced amount of incredibly cheap deaths (ie spike placement, enemy placement, etc).

Picked this game up for cheap from GameStop a few months ago, but never got around to finishing it for some reason or another. It's a great Zelda game, and I really enjoyed it once I finally got around to playing it, and it's up there with the best.

A true classic, Metroid, despite its difficulty and short length, is a lot of fun. The game is probably one of the best NES games, and is one of the best Metroid games as well. I think I'll have to find the Classic NES Series version of the game and finish it on there too.

Typically referred to as one of the worst Metroid games, I heartily disagree. This game is fantastic, and is almost as good as its predecessor. Despite the bad reputation this game gets, it is well worth a playthrough for any gamer who enjoys the Metroidvania formula.

Played through this game a few weeks back and it was pretty fun. Staying true and classic with Ryu, even a Street Fighter noob as I didn't have much trouble downing M. Bison.

A great 8-bit platformer, Kid Icarus is in many ways equal to the game that it shares an engine with; Metroid. Kid Icarus is a great game in its own right, with unique aspects such as the leveling system, shops, and the final side scrolling shooter stage.

I played through this game on the Xbox 360 with a team of Storm, Iron Man, and Ryu. It's not nearly as difficult as the first game, at least when talking about the final boss. Nevertheless, it's still a great game and the insanity surrounding it really compliments the overall game.

An aboslutely amazing game that I only recently got into, I finished this game with around 80 hours and have since spent another 20 or so. This game is probably one of my favorite games of all time, due to the vast amount of things possible ingame.

An early action shooter for the Neo Geo, Cyber-Lip comes from many of the team responsible for Metal Slug. This makes Cyber-Lip a really fun game, but its slower pace hinders it. However, all is forgiven with a final plot twist. The computer you were fighting against is not "insain!" It was evilly reprogrammed!

The second Kid Icarus game isn't near as fun as its predecessor, but it's still a great game. It struggles on a smaller screen (making it a whole lot more difficult), but the aspects that it carries over from Kid Icarus makes it more Kid Icarus... and that's not a bad thing.

Seeing as how I suck at fighting games, Marvel vs. Capcom is absolutely brutal for me, considering the final boss is a completely insane robot that can rape me in a single move. Nonetheless, this is a great game, and especially crazy in multiplayer.

I played through this game and its sequel with a friend on one lazy summer afternoon. This game is a blast, featuring classic Mega Man bosses and music mixed with Capcom's unique flair for 2D fighting games.

The second game is slightly better for one single reason; you can choose which boss to fight next. This makes it a whooooole lot easier to ensure that you have the next boss' weakness.

After years of having... er... not completed Banjo-Kazooie, I came back to this game on the Xbox Live Arcade. The game is a lot of fun, even though it's hindered by a problem that a lot of Nintendo 64 games face today; stiff controls.

A massive expansion to the Elder Scrolls universe, this is a fantastic add-on. Sheogorath's dialogue is hilarious, the loot is (naturally) great--especially the Madness Armor--and the quests provide a lengthy addition to the main game (I spent somewhere around 30 hours in Shivering Isles).

The Game Gear Mega Man is pretty tough to play on such a tiny screen, but the game is still pretty fun. Borrowing a lot from Mega Man 4 and Mega Man 5, the game makes no sense in context with these games (what are Wave Man and Toad Man doing in Dr. Cossack's stage? Why does Wave Man have no weakness? Why is Dr. Wily using Dr. Cossack's fortress and Quick Man's stage?).

My second favorite Double Dragon game, Double Dragon II refines the gameplay of the first Double Dragon, also including its own innovations such as directional based attacks, better graphics, more unique stages (particularly the helicopter stage), but retains Double Dragon's classic difficulty.

The original Castlevania is a retro gem. While modern Castlevania games strive in their non-linearity, this formula works best for the first few games (discounting Castlevania II). While Simon Belmont is the slowest moving character EVER, that doesn't detract from the gameplay.

For a while, Super Mario Bros. 2 was one of the few Mario games that I'd never completed, so I recently went back and showed Wart what's what of Subcon. Despite being the black sheep of the Mario series, this game is still great, although I probably didn't have to tell you that.

The original Zelda is an incredible game. Challenging but not frustrating, catchy music, addictive gameplay... it has it all. The collecting aspects of this game are sublime, although you're probably going to want to use a map playing through it nowadays if you don't feel like wandering around for hours.

One of my least favorite games in the Double Dragon series (only Super Double Dragon is worse than this game.. discounting Double Dragon V), that's not to say that Double Dragon III is a particularly BAD game, it's just the fact that one death warrants a game over. That's right, you have to completely start over if you die once.

Like Contra before, Super C is a fantastic game. Fast-paced, intense, hardcore = Contra, and that describes this game to the letter.

Basically Metal Slug in a top-down perspective, Shock Troopers is just crazy shoot-em-up action. Colorful sprites, great music and sound effects, and superb gameplay make this a must have Neo Geo game.

The second Shock Troopers game isn't anywhere near the high quality of the first game, but it's still a blast to play through. The game is overall a lot more slow moving than its predecessor, which detracts from the game somewhat, but it's still pretty fun.

An absolutely bizarre shooter from Cave... well, that's a shocker. This game is completely insane, with bosses ranging from a spider-cat hybrid to a giant demon baby that vomits up a lady who ends up being possessed by a ghost... yeah, I was confused too.

Probably one of the best games available on the Xbox Live Indies, Protect Me Knight is a great little action-RPG from Ancient. With quirky Engrish, Famicom style graphics, and music from Yuzo Koshiro, this isn't just your typical Indie Game.

An incredibly... er... unique beat-em-up (naturally from Capcom, considering the era). The game is fun and very arcade-y, although a little bit short and on the easy side.

Picked this game up recently, and found it to be a lot easier than Mega Man 9 (which I'm still crawling through), and completed it within a couple days. While the music in this game is poor in comparison to other Mega Man games, that doesn't detract from the overall game, so it still comes highly recommended.

One of the single most brutally difficult games I have ever played, Zelda II was almost at chore at times. This game is unforgiving, hard, and at times, completely unfair. With that out of the way, this game is a lot of fun, and despite being a weaker Zelda game, it's still a great game with awesome music to boot.

A fantastic Capcom beat-em-up, Shadow Over Mystara has a lot of unique aspects that really should be implemented into modern day beat-em-ups to help the genre evolve beyond "punch that dude." This game has a leveling system, collectible treasures, characters with unique attributes and attacks, equipable items, shops, branching pathways, etc. Truly a great game, and future beat-em-ups should take after its example.

Just picked up this game, and even though the campaign is criminally short (only about an hour long), the game's multiplayer is phenomenal, and I'm sure that this will be a hit when I have lots of friends over.

Even though I beat the two Dungeons & Dragons beat-em-ups out of order, it didn't really lessen the greatness of the first game. They're both incredible games, it's just that Shadow Over Mystara really refines the gameplay introduced in this game. I highly recommend both games.

It's amazing how all of these early 90s Capcom beat-em-ups remained largely the same, but Capcom managed to differentiate them enough for each one to have individual merits. Alin vs. Predator is a lot of fun, especially in multiplayer, and is up among the top arcade beat-em-ups that Capcom put out during that time.

It took me a couple months to finally finish Pokemon HeartGold after I picked it up for a single reason... I'm really getting burned out on Pokemon games. The formula really needs to be revised, because at this point it has gotten incredibly old.

One of several games that I played out of boredom while visiting family friends in New Hampshire, Abadox: The Deadly Inner War is a relatively entertaining shooter (better than Xevious, I have that much to say). However, it is pretty short and ranges from mind-numbingly easy to brutally difficult in the blink of an eye.

Shadow of the Ninja is basically Ninja Gaiden, but easier. It's still a fun game, but it's clear that this game is a complete clone of the original three Ninja Gaiden games.

Picked up Big Bang Mini as entertainment for a plane ride, and this game proved to be a unique shooter. Coming from Arkedo, developers of the brilliant Xbox Live Indie Games (Arkedo Series), this game is around $10 new, so I highly suggest it for any DS owner.

Another great game, Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels can be pretty difficult at times, more due to the fact that it tries to trick the player at every turn than genuine difficulty, per se, but that's not to say the level design isn't tricky at all. Nonetheless, it's a fun game.

A game that is difficult to "beat," per se, due to the fac that it continuously loops and it's difficult to know when you've completed the next "stage," of which there are ten. Nonetheless, it's a fairly competent shooter, although in comparison to many modern games it doesn't hold up very well.

A very, very strange game that is basically the precursor to the widespread ROM hacks that are all over the internet nowadays. It combines levels from Super Mario Bros. and The Lost Levels, also changing minor things about the gameplay and completely replacing some enemies.

Neo Geo version:

A great game, Metal Slug is one of my favorite Neo Geo games. Every game in the Metal Slug series is a blast, but Metal Slug: Super Vehicle - 001 holds a special place in my heart for being the first.

Virtual Console version:

Essentially the same as the Neo Geo version, this differs in a couple ways. First of all, it's the home version (I played a different version on the Neo Geo), and second of all I played this game with a friend, which made it even more fun.

A freakin' crazy game, Shoot 1UP is also unique and a lot of fun. It comes from Mommy's Best Games, an independent studio founded by an ex-Insomniac employee, and it's clear the care that was put into this game. It comes as no surprise that it's one of the highest rated Indie Games on the marketplace.

A pretty fun game, Harmony of Despair is slightly overpriced, although I can see how it can be replayed multiple times. The multiplayer is a blast, but it's disappointing to see so many reused assets when the team could have created a completely new game with an additional multiplayer mode.

After purchasing Jump almost a year ago, I finally got around to finishing it (I kept losing all of my lives around stage 28 out of 30). This game is a lot of fun, and well worth teh 240 MS point price tag.

This and Crossfire both come from an ex-Volition employee, I believe. They're both excellent games too. JoyJoy is a twin stick shooter (surprise!) that actually stands out among all of the twin stick shooters on the indie game marketplace. This game has a unique art style, great multiplayer, fast-paced gameplay, a large arsenal of weapons, and even modes where you can alter your speed, rate of fire, vulnerability, etc.

Crossfire is a Galaga-esque space shooter from the same developer as JoyJoy. This game is unique because of the ability to switch from the bottom and the top of the screen. This game is also incredibly difficult, especially in later levels. Maybe it's just me, but it's very hard to keep track of literally hundreds of individual bullets. Nevertheless, it's a very fun game.

One of many great shooters on the Indie Game marketplace, Groov is really unique for its dynamic soundtrack that changes based on enemies onscreen, rate of fire, and the speed of the rhythm. The game only has three modes, but for a dollar, it's not a bad deal.

Another strange shooter from Cave, ESP Ra.De. is a whole ton of fun, despite its difficulty. In fact, I'd probably say it's one of my favorite Cave shooters, although there will always be a special place in my heart for Guwange.

One of my least favorite Double Dragon games, this Neo Geo fighter is pretty unforgiving. Also, this game is based off of the infamous Double Dragon movie, so that only makes it worse. I'm still not quite sure why I decided to play through it on MAME one afternoon.

ANOTHER Cave shooter, DonPachi is among the best. The whole bee theme is a little strange, but the game is really fun. Great graphics, power-ups, and fast-paced gameplay... despite being relatively tough (in order to finish the game and get the true ending you have to play through the entire game twice).

Originally a homebrew DS game, this platformer has a lot of charm and longevity, especially considering its asking price: $1.00. The game is pretty standard otherwise, with puzzle-platforming gameplay. However, one thing about this game is awful: its single song soundtrack that becomes grating ear-rape by the end of the game.

A pretty standard vertically scrolling shooter with one difference: TIME TRAVELLLLLLLL. Otherwise, it's not that great.

Played through this game on an Atari Flashback 2. Still a great game, and it's clear how this game has influenced modern adventure games. The game isn't that long, but it is still a staple of not only the era, but gaming as a whole.

One of few 1942 games that I've played through, 19XX is one of the best. It's a fairly standard vertically scrolling shooter, but its bosses and style are what make it interesting.

A subpar beat-em-up starring everyone's favorite green rabbit. No wait, I was thinking of the other guy.

A Space Invaders clone which does as much for the genre as other Space Invaders clones. Not very special.
