Such captivating episode! Might listen again. Hey there is a time to slam hour-long Macho Man impressions and a time to dig into some real shit about outsider music. A bummer of a different color?
I especially loved the points about our fixation on fail entertainment, the unhealthy obsession with music labeled as made "under duress", the tender years of being a terrible musician, and the criticism around engraving The Shaggs music and attempting to perform it live. Thank you all for really putting yourselves out there in addition to being so f'n funny.
It makes me happy that the two remaining Shaggs sisters from can go on knowing their troubled experiences have brought some people joy. Keeping that in mind makes me more ok with celebrating the whole thing.
You guys failed to mention that there was an ACTUAL MUSICAL done about The Shaggs back in 2011. I still can't decide how I feel about that. It catapults the absurdity to another level.
I get pumped every time I see the ALBUMMER art show up in my pod feed. Also no theme song is punk rock and ironic af for a music podcast. Keep it up.
Between his Elden Ring description, and the Guardians of the Galaxy rant from GOTY, I feel like @janman is quickly becoming my new fav on the cast. Actual insight and analysis - not just explanation. I love you Jantholomew.
