Theres a lot of games that I realise just 'aren't for me' type games that I understand why others enjoy. Breath of the Wild being the big example, the mechanics and progression of the game just aren't my thing but I'm happy for those who do enjoy it.

But my actual answer to the question is Deathloop. I simply cannot understand how that game was getting 10s and being gushed over by the press in the week leading up to release. It's not a bad game by any means but getting scores that put it among the greatest games of all time seems so far away from what I played. Its an ok shooter with a couple of slightly unique mechanics but typically games that are getting that level of praise are generation defining masterpieces and I just don't see any of that in Deathloop.

If GT7 comes to PC it wont be with significant changes. The game fits in a particular spot that is different to the bigger PC sim racing games and they wont try and directly compete with those by going further in the 'Sim' direction. In fact I think it PC lacks something at the exact level GT sits at and it will likely be very welcome to those who the full sims are too much for.

I think first years of consoles tend to be a little slower and it's been amplified this time with pandemic induced delays. I agree there is a lot of potential there and I'm looking forward at what is to come but at the same time the last year has allowed me to spend more time with the games I have played rather than feeling the need to finish up and move on to the next big release (which is something I've been trying to stop myself from doing even before the PS5).

I think it's pretty easy to be on the high horse about not buying things advertised by streamers or anywhere else but as others have said it's very likely you have been influenced by that stuff at various stages in your life. You should probably be thankful that not every product being pushed is directly targeted at you. If the algorithms ever get so good that you only see ads for products you do buy it would be way worse than it is now

Certainly an idea I've struggled with in various forms since I've had enough disposable income to more or less buy games whenever I want. Probably became even worse with gamepass because I didn't even have to go through the payment process each time I want a new game.

Recently I've managed to snap myself out of it by minimising the number of games I have installed at any one time. On the PS5 side the tiny SSD size has actually helped with this. I'm forcibly limited in how many games I can have installed so have been pretty good at limiting my purchases and spending a lot more time with the games I do have.

With PC/Gamepass I've had to be a bit more disciplined but so far I've managed to do it. I limit myself to about 5 games installed at any one time and my rubbish Australian internet means deleting one and installing another is a several hour process.

I reached a crossroads with my 'content grind' a couple of years ago where I had too many podcasts/too much video content I was interested in than I could keep up with in the time I had. I briefly flirted with using a speed increase to get through it all but had to stop myself and realise I wasn't actually enjoying or absorbing a lot of it and instead just trying to get through it out of some internal obligation.

At that point I unsubscribed from a few podcasts and accepted that maybe I don't need to listen to/watch every single minute of content available to me. I can still enjoy a podcast by only listening to one episode a month or watching the odd stream/video whenever I have time without consuming the creator's entire back catalogue. My general rule now is if a podcast episode goes unlistened to for more than 2 weeks it gets deleted.

It's been a huge weight off my back and I find myself enjoying the stuff I do consume a whole lot more now that I'm not constantly checking the timeline to see how long it has left before I can start the next thing.

Over the last year I've eliminated the idea of a backlog. I have finally stopped myself from buying games just because they are on a good discount because chances are I will never play them. I now have 3 or 4 games I am playing at any one time that I will bounce between depending on the mood but I wont buy another one until I'm done with one. Doesn't matter if there is a great discount because chances are it'll be on sale again sometime in the future.

In many ways the small hard drive in the PS5 has helped massively with this. I literally don't have the space for any extra games so I can't possible buy one until I am done with something else (well I suppose I technically could buy one and not download it but that's too far even for me when I was buying loads of games).

It's been tough and I'm sure not a mentality everyone can have but overall it's improved my enjoyment of games. I was at a point where playing sometimes felt like work as I convinced myself I had to get through a game to move onto something else to prevent my backlog from getting bigger.

Side bonus: I'm also spending far less money on games overall. No wasted money on things I'll never play and most of the games I do buy are not at release so I pick up at a discount

It's probably a case of modern games having more systems that work together on a deeper level now that altering something through cheats would potentially break everything. We regularly see games struggling to hold together when running as intended, can't imagine the QA nightmare that would be trying to playtest cheats that modify the gameplay in some weird way.

Starting with a PS1 means I have always been a single manual save person. Couldn't afford to waste those precious blocks by having duplicate saves. So far it hasn't come back to bite me, I've never had a save corrupt or put me in a position where it was impossible to progress in a game.

Offering perks to people who upgrade is perfectly fine to me and it's not as if they've said it will be taken away in a month. Yes technically you could log into a friend's PS5, claim the games and then go and play them on your PS4 but Sony probably figures the number of people who will actually do that is so small that it's not worth trying to put together a way to stop that.

In fact if they did offer all those games to existing PS4 owners it would probably be a bad business move. You don't drive people to the new platform by giving them 20 new things to play on the old platform.
