Apocalypse Now was one of the first movies I saw that kind of broke down the military fantasy that years of GI Joe cartoons and bad action movies had created in me. It sounds like Spec Ops is aiming to counter the same kind of power trip today's modern shooter has become, and that's a tall order. But count me interested.
Given the very nature of forums, it's very hard to sit down and articulate what you think is wrong with a game and so much simpler to say something sucks and leave it at that. Good on the fans for taking the time to provide useful critiques.
I downloaded the console app but can't find it on the dashboard. Where is it? I'll never pay for it but am intrigued to see how much they provide for free.
First, I've never maintained a high K/D in most shooters. Hell, I'd love to break even. On the other hand, it gives me something to aim for. The only downside is if you have a K/D of anything less than about 2.0, you'll run into random people verbally harassing you because your K/D is only .75 or 1.25 or something.
I need to work on slowing my roll, being more patient, and choosing my moments, but I think a lot of it also falls down to me just being old and slow and blind as fuck. However, it often also feels like those games where you have a 5/12 score have nothing to do with you. Someone on the other team has just slaughtered enough of the people on your team fast enough (often the guy at the bottom of the leaderboard with a 0/16 at the end of the round) that they can get predators and choppers and punish the rest of the team with them.
I suppose it would also help if there was some actual matchmaking going on. All these iterations later and I still see people under level 10 being put up against a team full of people who have almost prestiged twice, already.
So yeah I have a hard time believing their claims that this is the most balanced CoD ever. @Hunkulese. Good point but my constant and pointless death does put a crimp on my overall enjoyment.
So, I've been really enjoying the COD series and have played them since COD4. One thing I've noticed is that my kill/death ratio tends to plummet in the Infinity Ward games (Modern Warfare 2 and 3) compared with the Treyarch games (World at War and Black Ops). I was never awesome, but at least handily topped 1.0 in the Treyarch games. It's a sad fraction in the IW-developed games. Any thoughts as to why that might be? Do the hardcore kids flock to the IW games? Are the Treyarch games less camper-friendly? Should I just give up and play online chess like the old man that I am?
@thesoutherndandy A) Awesome profile pic B) Great looking pieces. I never played the game, but painted the figurines back when they were still made of lead/pewter. I never got them looking as sharp as the ones you posted, but had a blast trying. Keep it up.
