This Week In Xbox Live Demos! #2 - Japanese Crazy
By supermike6 8 Comments
This week's XBL demos are a pair of crazy Japanese games which left me enjoyably confused at the end of them. Oh, and Pro Evolution Soccer 11 came out also, but I have all my footballing needs covered by FIFA 11 demo, thanks. So, on to the crazy!
Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2
I have no idea about Dragon Ball. I grew up a couple years too late to actually understand what the heck was going on in Dragon Ball Z, let alone the original Dragon Ball. (I also don't know what the difference is between regular and Z.) So, that leaves me in the perfect position to love this game! This might play very similar to Raging Blast The First, but fortunately I didn't play that. I did play a bit of Burst Limit though, but that game actually kind of made sense because it used a fairly traditional fighting game HUD. In this game, there are like four meters on the bottom right, each arranged around to make a circle, and those might be health, but when I KO'd my opponent two of them were usually still full. Also, these meters are constantly different colours every time I look down which doesn't really help. So, I mash on the X and Y buttons a bunch and then CRAZY SHIT HAPPENS. I randomly just throw the other guy in the air and then kick him like 50 times and then we both fall on the ground and I start throwing energy balls at him and then he punches me and I'm all like "WHAAAAT." I played as three of the four characters in the game but all my fights ended up like this anyways.
Final Conclusion: I honestly can't even tell if this game is any good or not, since I still barely even know what it is. I liked watching crazy shit happen, if that counts for anything.
Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage
This is a game I heard about like a year ago and then completely forgot about. It's essentially a Dynasty Warriors game but instead of Samurai (or Gundams) you play as characters from Fist of The North Star (which could be an anime, a manga, or both as far as I know.) From what I've heard, in that series, all the characters just fuck shit up constantly and are practically unbeatable. Which seems like a perfect fit for the Dynasty Warriors series. Unfortunately, the Dynasty Warriors series of games don't play particularly well, which lets this game down. It's kind of fun to run around mashing on X and Y and then pressing B sometimes to do a "Flying Swallow" attack, but it all controls so poorly that it falls apart quickly. There are also parts where it's unintuitive in showing you how to to get to where you need to get to, because you need to be standing at the exact right spot before the button prompt for climbing a wall comes up. There seemed to be some sort of drama going on in the background involving a blind girl getting the power to see again or something, but I was way too busy slicing up members of "Fox Clan".
Final Conclusion: It's not very good. I like it in concept, but it doesn't play very well at all.
