While it looks fun, part of we wonders if in 2016 any of this reads heroically?
When they were making the Dirty Dozen, the US was still under the delusion that "Well, WW2 was a good war....not like this rough Vietnam stuff." But, now we live in a world of KNOWING the United States commits war crimes and has secret prisons. How is sending Joker, Killer Croc, or Dead Shot off to take-on American enemies really is 'worse' than we already do in reality.
What is the Suicide Squad going to do....blow up a hospital? Woooooo, so scary! Oh, wait we do that? Indiscriminately kill combatants and civilians in nighttime raids? Yup, we do that too? Torture people, threaten women & kids, what our allies in teh war rape kids? Lol, we do that? Wear scary mask or makeup? [Sigh]...We do that already?
Its a movie, it will be funny. But, the gloss if off the apple folks, the idea of a secret government agency recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency, is sort of quaint when the United States trains their own amoral twenty-year-olds that they discharge to be sent home to become our police.
