Weird, I had a bash on Too Human yesterday after not touching it since completing it a couple of years ago. I really enjoyed the game actually, and would like to see more (albeit with a little polish here and there).
Piracy has got to be a major factor. Barely anything that's not Mario, Pokemon or Professor Layton sells. I work in a game shop and I get asked at least once a day whether we sell R4 cards.
Wait... Brad's number one is a surprise to say the least. If there was anything I would have bet money on it would have been my confidence in his first choice.
Way to drive a nail into the coffin of one of the few remaining game series I care about (Geometry Wars). I'm pretty sure that Activision won't let the game go with its creators, and will probably let it quietly fade into memory.
I just think certain genres or game ideas got nailed pretty much first time, and the simplicity of a lot of them lends them that timeless quality. So yeah, the hoary old list of things like Pac-Man, Galaga, Defender, and Robotron. 30 years on I still fire these up on a regular basis. Once you add complexity into the design or ask more commitment from the player than five minutes with a joystick and a couple of buttons, you get further away from that pure, repeatable experience.
I can understand it. I'm one of those that bought the CE of LotRO, which included a lifetime sub. That cost me £150, which at the time was probably close to $300. I dip into it very occasionally but no way will I ever get my money's worth of entertainment out of it.
However, considering the time I put into things like WoW I wouldn't have hesitated in hindsight to shell out for a lifetime sub.
