Definitely Demon's Souls 2. Almost a DS 1.5, if you will. Looks like a rare refinement of something that was already great. Demon's Souls is to Dark Souls as SMG was to SMG 2. Somewhat disappointed by the lack of an MP gauge, but I think that I'll learn to love it just as much as "YOU DIED"
Day 1 get, I'm taking vacation from work the release date on through that weekend. GameStop better open the fuck on time. Haven't nerdgasmed like this since xmas '92, for real.
Okay, this is a great opportunity to bring up a question that has bugged me for a few years:
What is so hard about burning some discs, sticking them in DVD cases with some instructions and box art, and sending enough to various retail outlets to meet your sales expectations? Obviously there are distribution deals, etc etc, but what's the big deal? The game is already done, print it and sell it for 20 or 30 bucks.
I've clocked over 400 matches online... Jeff's assessment is pretty much the reality; the process goes like this: select your character for online - wait a few seconds while it processes .... then maybe one third of the time you get a network error message and are kicked back to the online lobby. In the event you get paired with someone, there is maybe ten percent chance that there is hardly any noticeable issue with timing lag. The majority of the time the game is just different; playing online does not provide you nearly as much reaction time, and you have to enter combinations sooner to connect. Maybe twenty percent of the time the match will die halfways through. And oh yeah, my personal favorite- when I hit "lucky" to get to the second level of bonus roulette, I get a network error 100% of the time that makes PSN think that I disconnected, so it penalizes my record by taking away the win and marking it as a loss. Thanks.
So Demon's Souls is done now, at least for the first playthrough. I was really tracking this game for a good number of months prior to release- mining for news, scrutinizing trailers, etc. From the trailer that was actually used as the intro to the game, I was always stoked about some tough situation being surrounded by some bad guys, and then all of a sudden this big demon is going to pop up from behind the castle gate or whatever, roar with that Alien-esque double mouth action, and then some shit was going to go down. The demon is printed on the disc. If you select the game disc, it appears on the PS3 menu. However, it does not actually make an appearance in the game .
My conclusion is this: DS hates you. You play by the rules, take what's given to you, and like it. You want another big demon just because it's in the trailer? Too damn bad...
That's not the way that Guybrush really looks. They really went out of their way to make him as squeamish and pathetic as possible... He's actually much more normal and casual in real life.
