I'm that weird type of gal.

I'm that weird type of gal.
No Caption Provided
Yeah, the type that plays a game for 5 hours and calls it a classic. Just reaching level 5 in Borderlands or playing through The Witcher 2's intro makes me wanna label em as games of the year. No need for complex mechanics, intricate stories or immersive worlds, I have this gut feeling about some games.

I'm that weird type of gal that ignores an entire soundtrack in favor of one of the first songs for the rest of the game. I'm not easily sold but I'm just that impressed with the feeling it gives me. Example here being this song from Borderlands 1, still stuck in my head after all this time, fighting off Rakks and Skags:

What makes me even more of a weird type is the time I spend in game's universes. Played one mission of Starcraft 2, spend the rest of the night reading the wiki/watching Starcraft videos. I know stuff about universes and games I never even touched but I have been wondered by their respective worlds. Their own little beings. I can appreciate franchises for just existing, without having even seen or played them.
I'm the crazy type of gal that spends her morning in nothing more than socks, panties and a blouse as she browses through the newspaper cutting out words and headlines to make custom quotes on my wall. Page after page gets mangled and the emergencies, accidents or interviews have been turned into my own little devices. My wall is now a whirlpool of fonts, words and ravings. Just another page of my life pasted upon the walls.

I'm the mental type, having watched obscure films, series or played the industries under dogs before they got cool. And even after I'll admit. I just make my own way through life, through gaming and through my preferences. There's tons of stuff I haven't watched, played and perhaps never will, but I don't mind. I'm doing it my way. One game at a time.

People wonder, people question, they just can't comprehend passion. Barely acknowledge it. Its all about the stigma. The image and the trail you leave behind are more important than the feeling is what they argue. They tell you, they tell me, its all about the respect of those around you. Its not about you, its about everyone but you.
They tell me, they yell me, they sell me.

Earth ain't no place to go it all alone, to be outside the flock and make it on your own.
But they misunderstand me, as they do so many, and never realize that I'm that crazy, weird and mental type of gal.

Who just doesn't give a fuck.

(Edit: Half the pictures don't show up unless I Ctrl + F5 in firefox, but they work in chrome straight away, anyone else?)
Edit 2: This is just some poem like bloggy thingie guys. Not some super critique about cultures or how bloody cool I should be in your eyes. Thought that was clear enough, guess not.

I'm like this as well. There has been plenty of times where I have lost an entire night reading about a game's story or universe.

Mine is the opposite. I have no idea what people are thinking - saying about me, until someone tells me. I am oblivious to it. Then I am shocked and surprised that anyone even cares (are their lives that boring?). I regularly get those looks of derision when I mention my hobby. I reply with my face of boredom when they talk about sport. I had a couple of senior management refer to me as "quirky". I don't think that was a compliment and I don't really care.

As Groove Armada said in their song, "if everybody looked the same, we'd get tired of looking at each other". The same applies to who we are and what we do for fun/

@MideonNViscera: I know right? Its a good thing I have a crappy salary or I'd make a craftman very rich with such crazy ideas.

@AsperGamer: I wish I could do that really, but somehow that ain't me. I worry too much and been dependent too much as well. People seem to care, even if its just out of spite or boredom, and I seem to care as well. Which I'm working on changing right now and in due time I'll become better at it.
It's just not at all like how I imagined it you know? Like how its all spelled out to be when you're younger...but this ain't that. Quite the shock, the slowly realized kind.

Good luck working on it. I have to be honest though, generally I don't care, but I can be hurt if what is said seems mean spirited. I just don't let them know, and I get over it. I work on the basis that I enjoy my life, so I try to avoid those people that would attempt to bring me down. It all starts from me accepting me as I am, knowing that I am a good and interesting person - I like me. Sure, it is a tad egotistical, but it gets me through the tough times. Again, positive thoughts to your on your life journey. May the karma universe be good to you.

There's nothing weird or unique in having an opinion and thinking you're right. Everyone does it. There are plenty of other people who like songs, read fluff, and do arts & crafts. Self-expression is the natural process of being, not a conscious effort. Even those you label as 'the flock' are doing what they want, regardless of how boring it appears to you. Maybe dial down that rhetoric, or it gets into Kanye West world-revolves-around-me territory.

As for "its not about you, its about everyone but you"... maybe you're aren't in North America, but everything here is about You, You, You. Absolutely no one is asked or demanded to consider the opinions or well being of others. If you're living elsewhere, perhaps, but in America the entire culture is based around the aggrandizement of the self. The biggest website in the world is entirely about that, about self-realization and expression.

@Brodehouse: I half disagree with you. I certainly think people in general seem to be moving toward a mentality of being totally open, finding like minded people, and not caring about anyone else. But at the same time I don't think society as a whole is pushing in that direction. I agree it's about 'You', but more about you impressing other people. People's actions, and to some degree opinions, are absolutely influenced by what other people think/might think, if you don't believe that then it's honestly pretty naive.

@TaliciaDragonsong: Part of the problem might be that (based on your descriptions) YOU think you're so quirky weird. Which, while you may do some less than common things, you're not. Based on what I know(admittedly not a lot) you're pretty normal. It's just when people try to push all the "weird" things that they come off that way. If anyone spent any time with me I bet they would come away thinking I'm perfectly normal, but I could think of some things to talk about that would give the impression to people that I'm pretty weird. I kind of believe that everyone is like this. Some people embrace it more than others, and some people embrace it too much. If you focus too much on what you're concerned about people judging you for, they're gonna focus on it too.

In my direct area I might be the weird one out because of the things I mentioned but I'm fully aware I'm quite normal. Hell, I've seen weird (crazy cuckoo weird) and I'm glad I'm not. But I am very happy to have my hobbies and passions, despite what people think of them, or me.
We all got our defining things I guess.

@TaliciaDragonsong: Yeah, I started writing my post before you wrote that post.(Though earlier on you did pretty much say that you're worried about other people's opinions and trying to get away from that). If I came off discouraging I didn't mean to. People should absolutely just be happy with themselves regardless of what anyone else thinks(I'm one of those people). I just don't like when people seem to think they're nothing more than the sum of their quirks, which is the impression I got from the initial post. But hey, I was wrong so more power to ya! (I really don't like that phrase..I need something that means roughly the same thing but is less...bleh.)

You are weird on one account. I barely remember any music in Borderlands.

What's the difference, though, between passion and curiosity? You spend twice as much time reading about how a Hydralisk was made than actually playing Starcraft. That's curiosity, right? Or are the two paragraphs mutually exclusive?

Not caring is pretty much the status quo nowadays, so you're more normal than you think.

@TaliciaDragonsong I'm just saying the refrain of "I'm weird and crazy"; everyone's weird and crazy. Even the people who listen to Nickelback. Hell, especially them. We are all different, and in that we are all the same.

@YI_Orange oh, this didn't start recently. Generation Me happened in the 70s and 80s. Every kid is raised being told that they're special, and that things are relevant based on their interest in them. The problem is, that's not how culture actually works, and it's unrealistic even under the best circumstances. If every man is Superman, then Superman is Everyman.

Absolutely there is a fine line between loss of identity and megalomania. The second part of influence is really based on meme theory, but that doesn't act through swallowing or obliviating existing thoughts and opinions, but redirecting them into brand new things. Multiplication rather than substitution. ... Shit, I can't keep up this kind of discourse. Anthropology is based on the sharing and shaping of cultural identity rather than the enforcement of it. Our quirks and deviations are not a separation from the norm but a natural progression of it.

@LikeaSsur I remember the song at the beginning and the song at the end. And then the song at the beginning of Borderlands 2. Except I already associate the BL2 song with that Arkham City trailer where the Goddamned Batman is crushing heads together.

Fun read. Neat earrings. Although I'm upset that this means I might actually have to start taking notice of girls earrings from now on, just to see if one has neat earrings at some point.

This is why I just can't get in to comics. Well, not the big crazy super hero mythology ones. I'll just read the ones Joss Whedon wrote, and call it a day. That reminds me, he wrote an X-Men series at some point, didn't he? Amazon here I come!

Hey hey, most of the time things aren't that black and white :)

I sometimes doubt my sanity too, but most of the time it's just emotion.

And I can relate to your obsessiveness (if I may call it that) about game's universes. If I'm really captivated by it, I tend to spend a lot of time "there" ^^ Especially if you're someone with a lot of imagination, those worlds can at times be more interesting than reality.

So don't worry too much about yourself and just enjoy what games can give you :)

@TaliciaDragonsong: If all girls had earrings with that much personality then it'd be worth looking at them, but they usually are just jewel-y things of some sort, which just aren't all that noticeable. I think I speak for most guys in this regard. Although, having 8 different jewel-y things in your ears would be noticeable, I suppose. Do you mean 8 piercings on a single ear? Where do they all go?

And just for the record, you're not insane.

Now if you'll excuse me, Valkyria Chronicles just arrived in the mail, and with it my life finally has purpose. These prior 26 years of aimless wandering have all just been a prelude to this moment.

OMG A GAMER GRRL!!!

seriously though, you brought up alot of interesting things but you coated it with alot of "im a girl and yes i play games, deal with it" attitude. why cant you just talk about things without constantly mentioning your a girl or trying so hard to be diffrent?

"hey guys,i just wanted to let you know what i think about the mass effect 3 ending and by the way i have a penis so i think that makes me more unique becuase i have a penis so while im talking please try to remember that i have a penis ok? PENIS."

I should probably write a blog like that, one of these days.

@DoctorDanger99: Well, not sure how long you've been on this site but I've been here for 2 years now and I have talked a lot about, you know, games and rarely related it to me being a girl. I reckon if you remove gal and put guy instead the entire blog/poem thing would still work perfectly.
You might not meant it offensively but you seem to be trying a little too hard to stereotype me, while I just wrote a blog, as I normally do.

@pyromagnestir: Ring's ain't that big, you can easily fit in 10 small ones :P
Go have fun!

@Video_Game_King: Do moonmen have genitals? Wait, didn't we discuss this before? Oh god.

I feel like everyone, at some point, talks to him about his swinging cod. Although, perhaps on the moon, cod have less of a swing?

Also, the entire Borderlands soundtrack is like that for me. I must have played 400 hours of that game between the various platforms I've played it on.
