Well, with an original movie, you are creating a story. With a sequel, you are continuing a story - see why that probably won't be quite as interesting?
Now, for games, this is not as much of a problem, because, let's be honest, it's generally not as artistic a medium. That's not to say a lot of art doesn't go into them, because it does, but the interaction of the player takes a degree of artistic control away from the programer.
Take Mass Effect (points for originality! I know) Was the first one more original and interesting from a plot point of view? Yeah. Was the second one more fun from a gameplay point of view? Fuck yeah.
Funniest rant ever. While we're on the topic of demanding things, I would like each textbook to come with an indentured servant (named Thadius is it's a boy, Ilithia if its a girl) to carry my books and turn the pages for me.
