@wlleiotl: I'm not opposed to political discussion at all. Quite the opposite. Without discussion, there is only pointless name calling and labels that have no merit and only serve to silence voters with genuine concerns, you bigot!! :P
My snark regarding political discussion is more down to how forum discussions on such topics usually devolve into a complete shit-show in record time. This thread is doing quite well so far, which is quite encouraging.
To respond to the criticism regarding Labour. I'm not swallowing any establishment line, I can assure you. There's really no need to be told what to think on any of the concerns I raised, especially when the evidence is so widely available, and in many cases committed to film. Some of that stuff is incredibly damning in my eyes, even before the media or the opposition try to manipulate or spin it to serve their own ends. Their own words speak for themselves, and I broadly (as a capitalist) find them abhorrent.
Castro was a 'Champion of Social Justice' (wut?) came from Corbyn's own mouth. Same goes for McDonnell and his marxist tendencies, along with his utter delight at the banking crisis. Labour, as it stands in it's current (and hopefully short term) form is far too cosy with the concepts of communism for my liking. And then of course there's Abbott, who I don't doubt for one moment has been subjected to a great deal of racism over the years (to the nations great shame, I should point out!), yet is completely unable to separate objective criticism of her political performance from race. "Iz it cuz I iz black?", "no dear, it's because you're dumb as a box of rocks!"
Honestly, I'm surprised you would immediately think that my distaste for Corbyn - one of the most unpopular leaders of the opposition that I can recall in my lifetime - must be due to my being uninformed. Couldn't I bat that very same argument straight back at you for supporting him? Does that give it any more validity? I think not. It's all opinion, and therefore, gravy.
While I think Labour needs massive reform in order to ever be taken seriously going fowards, certainly by me at the very least, I do hope they throw a massive spanner in the works for the Tories hubris. Regardless, I still won't vote for them.
Edit: if my reply sounds even remotely stand-offish, I apologise. But, if there's one point I can't emphasise enough, it's that a differing view isn't exclusively down to being uninformed or otherwise stupid in some way. There's room for all views, and attempts to 'shame' people into conforming with your own is the way of madness, and terrible politics overall. The video below is incredibly pertinent in this regard:
