Agreed. Bioware isn't doing it right with most of their current offerings (I haven't played DAO or it's expansion Awakening yet, so I can't judge that one).
I favor more of the "expansion pack" mentality of the 90s and early 2000s to the DLC offerings we have today. Give me another Baldur's 2 with Throne of Baal, or Diablo II with Throne of Destruction over the current pick-pocketing mentality.
There's a cool little PC shop in my town that sells arcade cabinet components you build around a PC running mame. It's been tempting a couple times but I was way too poor as a kid to spend time in arcades so I don't have the extra nostalgic motivator.
So expect to get destroyed on Battle.net at the end of July by all the people who have been playing the beta for months before then!
Troof! And really pisses me off that it is the truth. All it's going to take is a couple games of total spanking to motivate me to not play multiplayer at all.
@KaosAngel: I would argue that the two deals are entirely different. Bliz is their own cash cow and doesn't rely on Activision for money, meaning they can shelter themselves from the influence a little bit (see coming paid DLC for SC2 and WoW pets as the two big Activision influences). This is a publishing deal where Bungie will be dependent upon Activision for funding and will have to go through them for approval. Anytime you're dependent on something for cash or approval, that something controls you.
I want to believe Activision will just be the publisher and not interfere, but that's just not like them. Activision is about profits and has shashed and burned anything that's about games up to now. You don't give the benefit of the doubt to a crazed tiger with a history of mauling people just because it's kinda like a kitty cat.
EA or even THQ would have been a more respectable choice.
I'm really regretting not trying the beta, but the guys I normally game with had just discovered Borderlands when that came out and we've been rocking it for a couple weeks now. I'm definitely going to read through your guide and think about picking it up now.
