Spartan Ops might be the first time we really see "episodic gaming" done right. 343 might just do Halo justice, which is pretty impressive considering all the content Bungie put into it.
@ERoBB: Halo you mentioned how Halo 1 and 2 contributed to gaming and how 3 and on to Reach kind of did more of the same. I would like to say that Bungie did add a lot with Halo 3 with Forge and Saved Films. On Bungie.net you could track your statistics, que map/gametype variants, and flims to download on your 360. Bungie.net was doing stuff for free what Call of Duty players are paying for in 2012. Also Halo 3,ODST, and Reach have 4 player split screen/online co-op was in Halo 3 back in 2007 which most games in 2012 don't have. Bungie puts so much content in their games that if dwarves the competition.
Reach added armor abilities which was basically a class system. This was huge in multiplayer and when you have a good team that could utilize them you could dominate in a game.
I think a lot of these elements are over looked and thought I would address them.
I love games of all genres. Games that i've disliked that others love. The Sonic and Uncharted series' stands out. I love some aspects of them such as art direction, music, or the voice acting (thats more for Uncharted that Sonic). I think the gameplay is kind of bad. I hate the platforming in Sonic. I hate the shooting mechanics in Uncharted. I almost couldn't finish the 1st one. Had to make myself beat it before I started the critically acclaimed 2nd one. The shooting was better, but not by much.
One genre I'm not a huge fan of is the games like God of War, Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, or Darksiders. Anything where you juggle people and I'm just seeing the same animations. Not sure what that genre is called.
So even though I "hate" these games I still own them and can appreciate things about them.
This is hard. It's probably something on the NES. SMB3, Bad Dudes, Duck Tales, Zelda, Metroid, Contra, Castlevania 2, Mega Man, Battle of Olympus, or Life Force.
It certainly is a challenge. Make sure that you stay dedicated and pace yourself. Keep us updated and remember you can always publish online for free: )
