Rive - Indie shooter new video of gameplay.

I recorded when I played a level of the game I'm making "Rive" and here's a video of it. The quality is really bad because my internet connection sucks so it would have taken ages to upload otherwise. (If you ever move to Sweden don't buy broadband from Telia, they totally rip you off)

Haha that's great! I have been playing that for a while now, I actually have a little contact with the developers... If you like that you'll surely like the other game they are working on!

I would love to make it for PC to, but honestly I don't think I know enough about PCs to do it... Making the game run on a PC is super simple, but then you would have to make it run good on any PC and on any resolution which is a lot of work in an area where I am for to unexperienced for. The 360 however, has equal hardware regardless of which one you're playing on. So that makes it so much easier to make it for the 360.  
Though PC is not completely ruled out...

Not for the full game, but I do have a deadline on a demobuild for Microsofts gamecompetition called Dream Build Play. So a demo should be done by March 3rd.

I'm glad you are interested! Yes, I have actually started rebuilding it from the ground again and this time it is going to be much better... I learned so much when making the old version that I wanted to make it all over again, but better! I will probable release a trailer in a couple of weeks...

I found my way here from a google alert on my Duality ZF game.  But I have been told to come here many times.  I'll have to contant  the gb guys after my game is released to review it... great idea. 
 
EDIT:  And if there's an indie game dev forum on here, count me in.
 
By the way, is there any way to setup email notifications of replies to posts/threads?  I depend on those...

Does Giantbomb have a forum for all the indie dev's?  Do you talk amongst yourselves?   
 
 If you haven't already, I'd suggest banding together and contacting the giantbomb guys (Jeff, Ryan, Brad & Vinny) identify yourselves as indie game creators and loyal giantbomb users, then ask them to at least try your games and maybe talk about them on the podcast.

@I_smell: Well, truth is this is my first real game, and I'm pretty new to programming in general so making the game as it is working properly is hard enough. But it isn't done yet, there's always room for new stuff. Besides, I've never seen a shooter like this that is levelbased either...

I wish this game had some identity, or character, or sense of style. Like it's definately a top-down shooter, and it ticks all the boxes, well done. But there's nothing interesting or creative about it.
If this is your job, or you've got a time limit or budget or something, then fair enough. If making games is like a personal hobby thing though, then go nuts. Give it a theme or some kind of aesthetic or something to make it stand out.
Maybe it's just me. The last game I made was Robot Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar.
Speakin of which, where've all the devs come from? Over like the passed week I've seen about 5 people makin indie games on GiantBomb.

From one of the developers of Duality ZF (thank you for the mention!), I am looking forward to Rive!  Not many XBLIG shmups catch my attention and this one did!  It appears to be made under the same philosophy as our game (emphasis on gameplay).  I've been watching this project from the start. 
 
The rip on Rive with the assumption it was $10 or more also happened with Duality ZF on gametrailers.com.  In a purposely negative tone someone mentioned DZF was a rental at best, without realizing you would own the full game for the price of a rental.  That was based off the trailer linked in the quote above.  It's an odd thing, as I don't want to continually mention the ($1..$5) price of my game, as if the best thing going for your game is a low price, then something is wrong!  But, at the same time the critics have their point.  If the game is only worth a rental price to them, it could mean the game needs improving (which ours did and has since been improved). 
 
EDIT:  I just want to saw to Th3dz, good luck with your game!  Can't wait to see it!

I'm sorry if I came off as cold. I thought this was going to be a like a $10 thing like World of Goo . Maybe you should make it co-op .

@CowMuffins: Well, it's not like Galaga at all actually, there's a levelsystem involved here :D ... and the graphics... well, I'm not that good at drawing so I hope to make up for it with fun gameplay instead.

I think it's cool because I like the graphics and the gameplay sounds great.  I also like the music.  I played Galaga Legions and didn't like it.  This looks better to me.  And it's only $1.

I'm sure there'd be beta test volunteers here too if you need them (me included).  Not sure if you have to be a member of the XNA club for that (which I believe is $99?).

No, sorry but Sony does not have any developing tools or distribution services for independent developers, only Microsoft does.

@ptc: Yes, it will be in the game, I make all music myself. But this was just a rough draft of a song. Music will be kind of the last thing added to the game so I have a higher priority on making the game first. And thanks for liking it ;D

@ptc: Thanks! It controls like this:
Move the ship with the left stick, shoot forward with the right trigger, use the left trigger to controll the spread of the bullets (the more you press the more it will spread, releasing it makes all bullets go straight forward), and the right stick iis used for powerups like laser, missiles, plasma and stuff.. all these powerups will be aimed AND fired with the right stick so no buttons pressed is needed for that radial gun.
Also, the reason for no networking is: it's hard, if not impossible to keep track of that may objects (bullets) when networking and even the slightest loss of connection can be the difference between dying and not.. and we all now how frustrating it is to lose because the game fails to deliver..

That looks much better than I expected.  I want to play it.  NOW.  I liked the music too.  How do you control shooting - is just the left stick? 
 
Why is the co-op local only?  I suspect the coding/optimizing for play over xbox live is quite a hurdle...
