The Giantbomb Community's Top Ten Games of the Year 2011

Well here it is folks, there were a total of three hundred and twenty three people who submitted their usernames to be tabulated! Thanks to everyone who submitted! well, everyone excepting these people:

You fucked it up! Either you typed your username in wrong, you didn't create a list, or you managed to pull of some sort of wizardry like devilb0y (seriously, how did you... what?) I apologize for not including your lists.

Scoring went as follows: 10 points for being number 1, 9 points for being number 2, 8 points and so on until we reach number 10, which is only worth 1 point.

When I say "distribution" I mean how many people had the game as their number 1, 2, 3 and so on. A game with a distribution of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 would mean 1 person had it as number 1, 2 as number 2, 3 as number 3, and so on.

List items

  • PORTAL 2! GIANTBOMB COMMUNITY'S GOTY! It had a total of 1807 points.

    The distribution was as follows: 44 53 45 41 16 13 11 9 5 1

    meaning 44 people had it as their #1, 53 had it as their #2, and so on.

  • Trailing oh so closely was Skyrim at 1755, only 52 points away.

    Interestingly, you can see that twice as many people voted for skyrim to be their #1, but the numbers dwindled rapidly. Whereas in Portal's case the distribution was fairly strong all the way through.

  • Next is Bastion at 1146, a pretty substantial drop.

  • Aaaaand then we have SR3. Yes, that's right, #4. Trailing bastion closely at 1050

    More #1 spots compared to Bastion, but once again loses steam. Honestly? It's probably just because not enough people played it. I'm confident it would have placed much higher if it just got a bit more penetration. Not that it's really lacking in that regard.

  • Arkham City takes the number 5 spot at 914

    If I had the time, I'd make little bell curves showing the distributions. You can plainly see that Arkham peaks in the middle. A fun game for many, but even for those who played and enjoyed it, the high was a bit low.

  • At 612 is Deus Ex.

    Even more than Arkham, you can see Deus Ex peaking in the middle then dying off again.

  • Now here's a funny one. Dark Souls comes in at 541 points total with a distribution of: 21 16 7 8 3 5 1 5 4 5

    Unlike Arkham and Deus Ex, Dark Souls takes top spot for the people who enjoyed it, having most of its distribution being towards the upper end. Not enjoyed by all, but those who like Dark Souls like Dark Souls A LOT.

  • Dead Space 2 has the most even distribution out of all these games and has a point total of 534.

  • L.A. Noire takes 9th at 503 points.

    A distribution that puts it a little on the lower end of the spectrum, but still a respectable showing.

  • And finally Gears of War 3, which placed #1 on NO ONE's list but was represented well in all the other spots. 439
