Most surprisingly good games I've played recently

List items

  • This game got fairly negative review scores, and while it has many imperfections, I absolutely loved it. I'm on my 3rd play-through. The thing this game does very well is it's dialogue tree. It is, in my opinion, the best dialogue system ever put into a game. I really liked the story and the characters as well, though I may be in the minority in that regard. The gunplay has it's moments of terribleness, but sneaking around behind somebody and knocking them out, although perhaps a little easy, was always fun.

Oh, and Nolan North gives multiple great performances.

  • It's extremely refreshing to see a game this immature and crazy be so well received and for good reasons. There isn't another game out there like this. It's also very historically accurate.

  • This game is crazy. It's quite possibly the easiest open-world game to get around in. Endless possibilities. Very cheesy and exaggerated made-up accent on the voices. Very impressive visuals. Overall just really great. I'd recommend it to anyone.

  • Very solid tower defense game, and I think it cost me a dollar. I've sunk quite a few hours into this one. I like to run iTunes in the background and play the harder levels (not because I'm awesome, but because the easier ones are just... easier) with 99 rounds. Kills quite a lot of time, but it stills seems rewarding somehow...

  • I got this right after the quicklook, as I'm sure many people did. Can't say enough about it. It's a masochist's game, if you treat it like one, but extremely entertaining nonetheless.

  • Mount and Blade came out quite a while ago and I don't know why any bigger developer hasn't scooped up this developer, or more realistically, just stolen the ideas this game presents. This game has the most satisfying combat of any game available. It's truly incredible. This game has tons of rough edges, and a fairly steep learning curve coupled with a pretty weak beginning, but once you overcome those obstacles, I promise you, this game is extremely addictive.
