TheManWithNoPlan's Goty list (2014 Edition)

The time has come. I've gotten to as many games as I could this year. Some were released in 2014 and some weren't. In the end I made sure to have enough to fill up most of this list. I'll admit right up front that I haven't completed everything listed here, but the time I spent with each game I enjoyed.

So without further ado, here's my list.

List items

  • Far Cry 3 but with crazy birds that try to eat your face. While some may have had their fill with the previous game I left it wanting more. This delivered on that for me. Also that tiny Helicopter is badass!

  • This game surprised me so much. It was announced, shown off, and generally talked about in a negative light. I assumed this would be DOA (Dud on arrival) I'm so happy that didn't turn out to be the case. Admittedly, this game is at it's best when the person playing it appreciates the dumb fun that is duel wielding shotguns and slicing Nazis up. For those that don't you have my sympathy.

  • Off my radar completely- that was my relationship with this game until I watched the quick look and promptly bought it off Steam. It had been a while since I played a Metroid vania game besides symphony of the night and this was the door corner that scratched my itch. I'll be honest, there was time in the year where I could've seen this taking my number one slot.Strider

  • Dark Souls 2 was one of my most anticipated games of 2014. It came out early in the year, but as someone who waited for the Pc version it felt like an eternity. I know a lot of the critical reception for this was mixed. People who'd played tons of the first game weren't as blown away as they expected. I honestly wasn't expecting a drastic departure though. While I do prefer the first game I still really enjoyed my time with Dark Souls 2. This is one of those games I mentioned above that I didn't actually make it to the credits. Regardless it still deserves a very prestigious spot on my top 10.

  • I liked this game. As someone whose been an on again off again fan of the show for several years it exceeded my expectations of a game based on the property. If you life the show and jrpg like games that aren't 100 hours long, then go out and have a fun time farting and larping with the south park gang.

  • A wonderful throwback to the classic mega man style game. Glad I checked it out before the end of the year.

  • My god this game is great. That music alone gives it a spot on my list. Like Shovel knight this crept on my list from listening to the deliberations.

  • Titanfall really came and went didn't it? It was the hottest thing around for a month or two and then it fizzled out. For me I probably put the most time in the beta. I have to tell you; I could not get enough of this game. Running through maps blowing up titans and ninjaing around was one of the most memorable time I had with a game this year.

What ended up happening for me, was I played a shit ton of the beta, bought it, played about 2 dozen hours and never touched it again. I don't think I'll ever go back to Titanfall. When I played I got into a zone and for a brief time I was unstoppable. But like usual when you walk away from a game for too long everything disappears.

I came back and hopped in the titan one more time earlier in the year after a few months away. It wasn't the same. I still had fun running around maps and traversing the environment, but the combat was no longer fun. I didn't have the time or willpower to get back into that zone I mentioned and now that game will rest on my hard drive until I inevitably delete it to store more random bullshit on my computer.

  • I almost forgot this little gem came out in 2014. Anyway, it was a good time. Short and sweet I'd say.
