Thanks for the responses.

@justin258: The implied threat of sexual assault on all three characters that then awkwardly transitions into a comedy interrogation of Corneo. Also the mockery of trans people.

It's pretty enjoyable so far and I will for sure finish it but I'm having some concerns.

Namely having recently finished the section with Don Corneo I'd really rather not have to go through another section like that. I know it's cliche at this point to say something's problematic but fuck it I'll just ask:

Is there any section of the game quite as problematic as that bit?

Also second question:

I know there's an invisible affection system in the game that ends in one of the cast going on a date with Cloud. Is it possible to just not do that? Like is it optional? I'd really rather ignore that entirely.

Other then those two things it's enjoyable so far if not a bit dated and of the era. What really helps so far is how fast that plot moves along in this first four hours. Though now I realize why people might have trepidation over a remake of this game considering so far the plot is so dark already that remaking this game with modern dub voice acting seems like a one way to ticket making the final fantasy equivalent to that Shadow the Edgehog game.

I feel like people really need to calm down. The world isn't ending, and while all of Capital Hill is red now, Trump isn't going to be able to repeal everything Obama has put forward. It's also worth noting that despite the fact that Republicans hold a majority of the seats in both the House of Representatives and Senate, that they still don't have to enough to prevent Democrats filibustering any bills or motions that they try to pass. Furthermore, Republicans are not going to start restricting freedoms to anyone - do you HONESTLY think that Trump would get support from his own party to ban Muslims, or even build a wall on Mexico's border? Everyone ridiculed him for those plans because they were idiotic, they're not going to happen. Most of the shit Trump promised is not going to pass, it's obvious that most Republicans don't even like the guy - they just supported him to get a Republican president in the capital.

I'm sorry but no.

Every positive thing Obama has ever done as president has been on the GOPs checklist of things to destroy. They will repeal Obamacare and replace it with nothing and millions will die. That is a fact. That is something that is going to happen. The republicans will absolutely restrict every freedom they can get there damn hands on because that's what they are wholly about. Trump will absolutely try to ban Muslims from entering the country and you know what? Even Democrats will agree to it out of some deranged sense of reaching across the aisle. Speaking of the Democrats they wont be using the filibuster because with republicans controlling every branch of government disarming the filibuster is the first thing they'll do and without that Democrats will hold zero power for at minimum 2 years which is more then enough time for Trump and the GOP to end the very concept of human rights in America.

I am not joking when I say that if the Democrats don't get their shit together in the next two fucking months this is the end of Democracy as a concept on planet earth. That is not exaggeration. There is nothing stopping them from ripping up the bill of rights because while republicans might hate Trump they are experts in falling in line. Every single primary opponent of Trump save for one endorsed him. Republicans have no spine and no morality so do not expect them to put up any resistance tearing up the very constitution they so sanctimoniously pretend to protect.

The only chance of staunching the flow of blood is for the Democrats to do something but right now they're floating the idea of Tim fucking Kaine running in 2020 so it's not so absurd for people to be in fear like it is the end of the world because frankly it may just be.

Did you guys see that controller shell at the start of the video? Where he slid the two sides for portable mode out of it? That looked slick! Really want a good look at that thing.

@spaceinsomniac: I think the term you're looking for is The Young Turks or basically most people who use words like Neoliberal. Organizations like the Young Turks or Secular Talk speak a lot against neoliberalism and are generally fiscally left but use terms like regressive left and complain about safe spaces all the time. Half the time they're talking about real issues in the democratic party and then the other half the time they're scumbags who deny the Armenian genocide. When they get into their yell at things mode they may as well be Rush, Bill, and Glenn in their demeanor. I find that the vast majority of people who talk about neoliberalism are themselves less then ideal on social issues. They'll still be vastly better then a given conservative but that's not saying much. Of course they call themselves "real" liberals or "real" democrats.

It's really disheartening because places like those give a bad name to the discussion on neoliberalism to the point where a few now view people like Noam Chomsky as the same as their ilk.

I think the most depressing thing about all of this is that Hillary Clinton was never the problem but was simply a normal American politician who like the vast majority of politicians took money from dubious sources. Even Hillary the hawk isn't some unique thing to her considering every modern US president is disgustingly hawkish. The point was that it was and still is a systemic problem.

That's the worse thing in all of this is that not only is Donald Trump a piece of shit who is actively encouraging hate and violence but even if he loses the very precedent that his campaign has set solidifies that systemic problems with US government cannot be changed for the better period.

If the only non-100% horrific party is constantly under threat of their opponent in the general being extremists then primaries become dangerous and despised.

Donald Trump has done permanent damage to the US political system by even existing.

Fuck that guy.

Also it's hilarious that people still think supporting Donald Trump is somehow still regular politics and not just full blown hate movement garbage. By hilarious I mean sickening.

I just don't see this getting people to buy hardware or wanting to play traditional Mario. Pokemon Go was substantially different from traditional Pokemon games in not just gameplay but also aesthetics. Go was mechanically ingress not an rpg and was visually sparse as opposed to traditional pokemon games that have some kind of world to explore. More so ingress is multiplayer while traditional Pokemon is singleplayer. Pokemon Go and traditional Pokemon are vastly different experiences.

This Mario game is still a platformer. The game also has the exact aesthetics of a normal Mario game. The only difference is the style of platforming which the mass majority won't notice or care about. More so this style is generally easier or in the very least feels easier so for most this style will feel like an improvement over traditional Mario instead of a reduced thing.

I really can't see this boosting sales like Pokemon Go did although it makes sense for them to make this even without that possibility considering the NX likely has a touch only mode so games like this would be good for filling out the functionality of that mode.

EDIT: Sorry didn't mean to be a jerk with how this post started initially, edited out and wont happen again.

Possible guess as to what Nintendo could be doing if any of this is true:

This is a Nintendo tablet. It's a backdoor console into ever mom and pop that wants to get a cheap tablet for their kids to play angry birds on except the craze isn't angry birds anymore it's Pokemon Go. If Nintendo does this right this is a new Wii.

They might not execute right and I may be stupid but let me explain my thinking:

So the controller bits detach right and the screen could likely be a touchscreen right? That's literally a smart tablet. Sure it wouldn't have anywhere close to the app library of even a windows phone but there are two ways of countering that.

1. They build up internal staff dedicated to mobile, which they've started doing thanks to Pokemon Go's success, who focuses on essential apps most often used, giving them a Nintendo IP coating, and then rely on indie app developers too be excited to put software on a Nintendo device. That last bit might sound presumptuous and it wouldn't be a lot of people but this phenomenon has happened with the WiiU and 3DS receiving some indie games first before more audience rich consoles entirely because of the developer's nostalgia. That's not a lot but it might be enough to avoid the laughable launch status of the Windows phone which could provide enough momentum to get going.

2. They have an android emulator or the OS is a heavy permutation on android that can still run android software and apps. Either one would require a good relationship with Google and Pokemon Go indicates that are at the very least on speaking terms.

It would be hard but if they play it right they could sell the thing not just as a console but as a tablet. When Nintendo said they wanted to use their apps to transition people to console games I didn't think their strategy was to magic your tablet into a console but they might be doing exactly that.

The controller bits detaching also means they can innovate controls or add weird control stuff on a per game basis. You know how some games come with an add on? Like a rumble pack or ddr mat? Now you can pack in a controller bit that changes the controls entirely. You could sell a flight sim that comes with a every button needed for it. You could sell a game that needs fifty new buttons by just packaging new controller replacements in with the game.

If they play this right Nintendo won't be trapped in the handheld space with Mobile looming over them Mobile will be trapped in their with them! If they play this right and there's no indication of how this will get executed. VitaTV should have been a slam dunk and the default roku type device but Sony didn't even try and fell flat on their faces. This could go either way but the potential is amazing.

This is super cool that it has cartridge support! I really want to see more emulators with original physical game support.
