I liked syndicate when it was called Pong, bitch.

OT: What I'm most interested in was how the player was scanning all those npc's. I have unrealistic expectations that all of them have atleast some minor backstory you can mess around with...

I'm just going to continue assuming the only logical thing: Holmes is pulling the usual shennagins on Watson.

Also it would be rather amazing if they can pull of a satisfying Sherlock Holmes game where in you actually feel like you're deductive and reasonable....can't wait for the quick look!

What? I might be on board with this if it was them talking about how they were trying to figure out more streamlined ways of presenting the "ten doors" but this just seems like they're taking the route of modernization = binary decisions plus the occasional interrupt

I was mildly interested in this game as I've been wanting to try a hitman game, I'll still be sporting and wait for the quicklook but it sounds more and more likely I should just get Blood Money...

4. Actual fucking CULTURE getting back on TV...

Huh? OK, there are a million things wrong with that one sentence.

Allow me to name those million things for you, because honestly that was the last straw Jay444111.

I'll open with Sherlock and start in on some deconstructing of my own. Why do you perceive the rest of TV as uncultured? is it to allow for a nonsensical end goal of having your favorite shows come riding in on a white horse and "teaching" everyone how amazing you are? Is it a matter of looking at a review of something to confirm your own self worth taken to some grotesque extreme?

It clearly can't be truth you champion as that presumes that current TV has no culture. Hell, you know what I'll even do that cliche thing people do and define culture for you:

The arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively.

So by this definition it does not have to be limited by stuff you like. For instance I'm not that big a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic yet after seeing the pilot I could recognize it was intelligently made and quite frankly rather good. I was able to separate my ability to perceive good storytelling and my own personal tastes.

Also:

Transformers Prime

Game of Thrones

Community

Breaking Bad

Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes

The Legend of Korra

Psych

Burn Notice

That's what? ten shows that I can name in the span of a few minutes. I really doubt your shows are going to start some sweeping changes to TVland and bring back THE CULTURE! You know considering the fact that those ten shows are rather cultured. Hell I'm not even against something on par with FMA being brought in via toonami but to have the sheer audacity to place one culture's set of shows above another's on the basis that "jersey shore exists dur di dur dur!" boggles the mind.

Yeah, that sentence was my favorite one in the post as well.

Also in this thread: apparently nobody understands how Nielsen ratings actually work. It's not just "everybody watches a TV program and then a meter at the TV station automatically ticks up for literally every single viewer like the gas meter on your home." Bit more complicated than that.

Wow... Nielson ratings system SUCKS massively. So not just turning on a tv to a channel gives it views like any common sense person would make a system of catching views? Nielson ratings, copyrighting seriously need some fucking revisions if they want to last with actual common sense.

Not even going to touch this.

lol, "actual culture"

yeah. I even like anime, but come the fuck on jay.

Tim and Eric and more horrible shows like that are going on Adult Swim constantly as they insult anime... like this...

MTV doesn't have any music culture left, SciFi channel used to air a bunch of good mini series before they began making movies that are just plain rip offs that are FUCKING TERRIBLE and most don't have any SciFi in them at all, History channel is the alien 2012 channel, discovery channel is the crab fishing channel. Disney went from classic cartoons to horrible live action. TLC went from a learning channel to toddlers and tiara+immensely fat people shows.

Oh... and let us not forget CN itself which is doing pretty fucking badly in terms of ratings and money. Ever since the execs fucked over every single property they had and gained mistrust over foriegn properties... for some reason. (Better animation from Anime than Western cartoons and jealousy hit... maybe?) also their CEO is a fucking moron and it could easily be said that Aqua Teen Hunger Force RUINED cartoon network and was the reason Toonami died.

So yeah... we need culture to actually come back to TV... otherwise we may as well not get cable anymore due to the sheer crap quality they are trying to force down our throats.

Warehouse 13, Eureka, Alphas in response to SciFi. Also I wont watch that video but can I ask if they are just making fun of He-man? If they are then you're probably getting worked up over nothing. The dude has to deal with Skelator so I think he can handle small insults.

Every time you write a Shogun 2 blog, I feel as though I'm playing The MetaGame against somebody whose hand is entirely Total War: Shogun 2. It's kind of amazing the arguments you manage to spin for Shogun 2 in literally any situation.

It's cool, I see some validity most of the time, especially here. The problem is that he would probably praise Shogun 2 and say it's part of the solution. But Shogun 2 isn't making money the way Call of Duty is making money, or most other shooters, and so he's addressing a concern in regard to the majority share of the medium. I like Jenova Chen's games, and I think he is often right. I think he's right in this scenario, too, though I think you're right as well.

You all should read this post here, it's pretty rad...

Jenova Chen's comments also make me want innovative, actually entertaining, edutainment games. A game could teach you the basics of certain subjects through the nature of having to learn the mechanics of the game itself. That would be pretty nice for the whole planet if we learned more with ease from our entertainment instead of having to painstakingly extract it.

So you talk about how we don't need graphical fidelity then you talk about how more powerful hardware would still benefit scale...it's not like sony or microsoft have a switch in their devkits that will prevent developers from focusing on graphical fidelity.

You can't have the potential for greater scale without some developers redirecting that potential for the purpose of graphical fidelity. Personally I do agree that increases in scale are more important then increases in graphical fidelity.

I think this has been quite a fun read and does pose some questions on how virtual goods markets could work.

Oh cool I thought it was just me and my not so great left analog stick, can't go backwards ever. What is with that roll? I'd love to see the game design reasoning behind that!
