No way! (the ravings of a pissed Nintendo fan)

Really Nintendo? This is your trump card? That was my reaction when I heard about the new DSi. I am not even considering buying one. It has no GBA slot, which means I won't be interested in it. Thst was one of the main charms for me as a longtime GBA user. Whatever features Nintendo may add, they can't improve upon the DS Lite's perfection. Making the DS slimmer and giving it a camera does not sell games Nintendo.

Look at that beautiful GBA slot. It don't get much better than that.

Also, how will this sell on the market. Ninty really picked the right time to unveil this, at the very beginning of an economic recession. How will the public react to this? Nintendo has barely added enough features for this to be "an upgrade". The gaming public is very savy these days, I think they are smart enough to recognize a scam here. With a recession starting and a very uninspired improvement being made, I don't think the DSi will sell like the original and the Lite did. Then again, that would be almost impossible for any system. Will a $180 price tag encourage people to buy this? Or will the market's collapse lead to low sales of the DSi? Will Gamestop start a deal where you can trade in your Lite and $180 bucks for a DSi? Why have I asked four questions in a row? To lengthen this blog to make it seem more professional? Probably, but I'm also trying to make an economic point.

What really annoys me about the whole DSi thing and my main reason for not buying it is because it has no GBA slot. Think about that. The original versions of the DS had full GBA support. They had access to the largest library of games ever. The DSi throws that all away. This seems odd to me because there are some true classics on the GBA. There are games like Drill Dozer, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, The Minish Cap, some absolutely

wonderful titles that the DSi wouldn't let people play. I believe whole-heartedly that the GBA is the greatest handheld of all time, in terms of both hardware and games. Why is Nintendo trying to shun its greatest generation of handhelds? Is it just because the Gameboy Advance was from the same era as the Gamecube and Ninty wants to get as far away from that as possible?  I realize there is a desire to improve things, but at this point the DSi looks like the Gameboy Micro of the DS family to me. To me, the Nintendo is the anemic of the three parties right now, always going for slimmer and slimmer models at the cost of features(this is a terrible analogy that I'll be burned for, but I'm sticking to it.) So no, I'm not buying a DSi. The camera seems gimmicky, the lack of a GBA slot kills it as will the economy as Nintendo will find out in about a year.  I predict that the DSi will soon fade from memory like the Gameboy Micro did.

Sam And Max(oh wait)

Think of the possibilities. No wait time on firearms, giant Abraham Lincoln statues running around, and complete recklessness and irresponsibility. Sounds like my kind of President.

Today's Gaming: Madden Fortress 2

Today I managed to fit in several hours of both TF2 and Madden 09. I managed to play more of Arena and steel. I found the arena maps like Lumberyard and Ravine work best for me in large groups. In smaller games, it turns into a number of smaller fights. I do like the closer finishes, but It still seems too limited. As for steel, it's a great map and one of my personal favorites. It's got a nice design and allows for some great matches. As for Madden, at this point I'm just playing in the franchise mode, trying to build middle of the road teams into contenders. This weekend I plan to play more madden and TF2, but also dip into Audiosurf and a classic, the Legend of Zelda Windwaker.

Today's Gaming: Played a ton of Badwater

I decided to get a better feel for the new Payload map, Badwater Basin. I've heard great things about it and even though I've played it a few times before, I wanted to play with it some more. So I jumped onto a 24/7 Badwater server and played for three straight hours. It was a lot of fun. Though snipers are more of a problems than on Goldrush because of several long straight track areas, the map feels balanced otherwise. I like it a lot more than I do Goldrush. Tomorrow I'll probably focus on Steel or more lumberyard. Thordain out.

Edging towards selling it.

I'm getting close to selling my Wii. I'm a now person, and a 2-3 year wait when there is nothing in the immeadiate future...it just annoys me. Still, I have faith in Nintendo, they haven't led me wrong before, so i'm going to stick with this. I can sustain myself with TF2 on the PC.
