The backlog, its easy to get carried away

This may sound silly coming off my 3DS post, but I am trying to cool off my spending to have more for retirement etc. As a result the 3DS is the last spending hurrah for a while and I am committing to not purchase any new games until I clear out my backlog. Clearing means I either complete the main questline in a game or decide that the game will never be beaten due to the game loosing my interest fully or becoming more frustrating than the experiance is worth.

Without further adieu, the list:

Update: I have checked a few off, but Blockbuster in Canada closed up so I bought some cheap games. Couldn't hold to it :(

PS3

  • Vanquish
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Assasins Creed 1, 2, Brotherhood
  • Borderlands - Only DLC Packs left
  • Darksiders
  • Fallout 3 and New Vagas
  • Infamous
  • Little Big Planet
  • Braid
  • Prince of Persa
  • Valcuria Chronicles
  • Resident Evil 5
  • Crysis 2
  • Shadows of the Damned

Wii

  • Metroid Prime 1-2
  • A Boy and His Blob
  • Monster Hunter Tri
  • Final Fantasy the After Years
  • Muramasa
  • Phantom Brave
  • New Play Control Pickmin
  • The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past
  • Cave Story
  • Super Metroid
  • Lost Winds 2 -Forgot I had that one there

3DS/DS

  • Chrono Trigger
  • Legend of Zelda the Ocarina of Time
  • Starfox 64 3D
  • Zelda Links Awakening DX
  • Pokemon Heart Gold
  • Final Fantasy III
  • Dragon Quest IX
  • Street Fighter 4
  • Locke's Quest
  • Zelda ST
  • Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story

PC

  • Red Alert 3

This is all software I either have access to via trades with a friend or already own. None of these are second play throughs, even the really old stuff, I never had a SNES or game boy growing up. From the looks of things I should have no problem hanging onto my cash for some time. The only exceptions I may make is if I am looking for a new multiplayer game and I want to get in on the community on the ground floor. Other than that I am going to have to hope that upcoming stuff I am interested in is not impossible to find when the time comes.

thanks for all the encouragement, but my greatest ally is my wife who wants me to cool down my game spending.  So long as I have her on my side/up against me.  I won't have to worry.

@Thusian I started this year with plans to dig into my backlog. Finished more games in 6 months than I had in the previous 3 years.

Good luck!

Heres some advice, I like to have two games going on at the same time. One new release and one old release from my backlog, this way I can enjoy new games and complete old games, its a nice system. I am in the middle of playing L.A. Noire while also playing Brutal Legend.

Brutal Legend is a very 'ehh' kind of game. I enjoyed it at the start but it went a bit downhill once it became an RTS. I'm still yet to play L.A. Noire.

Would I be weird if I said I'm enjoying Brutal Legend more than L.A. Noire?

Thankfully it is easy to chapter select around and get all the missing treasure in Uncharted.

I have the same problem with unbeaten games and I hope to once again make a solid debt in the backlog during the summer drought. If I were you I might rotate between systems and styles of play to not get burnt out. For instance I played DA & DA2 back to back and in the second chapter I needed to play something different.

Good luck!

I kinda know what you mean. I haven't purchased a single game on Steam, yet I already have a problem with just how many games I haven't beaten for it. How the shit is that possible?

I have a backlog of horrible games to play, looking at your list you're lucky haha! Most of those games look like they would be fun to play through a first time, particularly the Zelda, Assassin's Creed and Fallout games. However, they could be a bit time consuming :P

Haha, my backlog is over 150 unbeaten games (a majority of them are from the ridiculous Steam holiday sale two years ago that nabbed me a ton of old PC games for less than a $100).

I wish you luck. I could never do it. I can usually beat about 3 games from my list before I break down and buy a new one or one of my pre-order games from Amazon comes in.
