Top Games of 2013

For a little while I thought I would struggle to put ten games on this list I have been taking a break from gaming in general but even so its been a hell of a year with a lot of good stuff coming out. I do need to play some more indie titles though as I tend to do the same thing I do with comics which is only by stuff from the big publishers.

List items

  • Or Pirate Simulator 2013. Even after the disappointment that was Assassins Creed III this game knocks it out of the park and sets a new high point for the series.

The Naval combat is highly challenging towards the later stages of the game and their is just so much stuff to do it can easily consume 40 hours of your life.

It is also a big plus that this game looks amazing on the PS4 screen shots do not do it justice.

  • This is one of the most immersive games I have played this generation. Between the zero loading times and amazing looking environments the game just pulls you in and doesn't let go.

Lara is a compelling charterer and learning about her back story was a blast.

The game play was also top notch there are few things more satisfying in gaming then using a bow and arrow to take down a room full of enemies without them ever knowing your there.

Other game companies take note this is how you do a reboot.

  • I have never played a more stressful game in my life. The pressure of trying to feed your family and doing the right thing really got to me in this game.

It is odd considering the game is about a guy who is working a day job as a boarder control agent.

  • Another game I picked up on a whim. It is a truly unique game , the game play which is a mixture of Star Craft Civilization and Magic the gathering all rolled into one it some how works.

The games biggest strength is it's story with a unique cast of charterer and compelling choices to make were enough to kept me hooked.

You can also turn in a Dragon and just murder scores of enemies whats not to love?

  • God I miss tycoon games. This game scratched an itch I did not know I had. I failed many times trying to create my own game company but I had a lot of fun doing it when I finally got it right it was so satisfying.

When I finally retired I had released my own console with an MMO exclusive and was making money hand over fist until I lost it all due to the operating cost of the MMO became to great and failed me.

  • Did they hit the watermark that was Bioshock? Not quite. The first 4 hours or so of BioShock Infinite were amazing.

Exploring Columbia was a but load of fun and falling in love with Elizabeth was heart breaking.

The only problem I had with the game was the fact I guessed the ending shortly after they introduced the tears and the twins which left a sour taste in my mouth.

I am super stoked for the DLC though so they must be doing all the right things.

  • As A massive DC Comics fan who is currently buying 30 comic books a month from them this game hit all the right notes.

The fighting was simple enough to get into yet had enough depth to keep me entertained.

I also played this on PS4 which probably helped a lot it looked good ran good and was just a pleasure to play.

My only gripe was that they did not go full CG with the arcade mode endings which is a small thing really. This game is quickly becoming my fighter if choice dethroning Tekken.

  • This game is just dumb fun and it's awesome. If they ever make a big budget Justice League game I hope they give the license to thees guys.

The sense of speed and power you have is unmatched in any game I have played all they would need to do is to hire some writers who know comics and they would be golden.

To bad I hit a game breaking bug which prevented me from finishing the game.

  • Sid Meier's Civilization V: Brave New World finally perfect the Civilization V formula.

The expansion gives you a ton of late game options to help speed up the end game and playing via a non combat route is incredibly easy to do.

They have also fixed a lot of the AI issues which have plagued earlier versions of the game. Two years on the game still looks good and has been well optimized.

According to steam I have put 250 hours plus into the game over the two expansions so they must be doing something right.

  • I do not want to play an open world driving game ever again.

The big thing in this game was the story switching between three characters helped keep things fresh and alleviated the boredom.

I wish the game had more heists they were some of the best parts of that game.

This game is truly an amazing technical feat on the last generation of consoles how they mange to keep the game that stable is beyond me.
