This is a list of most of my all-time favourite games, in alphabetical order.
Awesome games not on the list because they're too obvious: Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, A Link to the Past, Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask.
I could and maybe later will come up with several reasons why I like this game more than Ages, but really, one word should be enough: Subrosia.
Most memorable game of all time for me. Colourful world, crazy enemies, bosses, characters and story, awesome first person giant robot battles, but most of all: music. Holy crap. No game has ever come close to matching the awesomeness that is this game's music. The progressing dungeon music is the best thing since video games. Do yourself a favour and search for more MNSG music on YouTube. It's so worth it.
When I first got this game, I had never even played (the full version of) Oddysee yet. Turns out this game pretty much improved on everything Oddysee did and then added a lot more.
This game has pretty much everything: a lengthy and interesting story, a big open, colourful and interactive world, more memorable and original characters than the sequel, great music, that 'mario RPG'-style sense of humour and fun and (for what is still essentially a turn-based RPG) active gameplay. The only minor complaint I could think of might be that game is a little on the easy side, but maybe that's just because I've already played it so many times that I pretty much know exactly what to do everywhere. Heh.
