Oh I get this all the time. I jump a lot between genres. But I recently tried getting back into bullethell/danmaku stuff and OH MY GOD I have to relearn how to walk in the genre all over again. Still fun though! Just for reference I was playing Mushihimesama and trying this other game called Caladrius Blaze.

I'll have to vote Nier, but honestly I think I like DOOM just as much but they aren't even remotely comparable, maximum apples to oranges.

Yeah I've always thought people underestimate the difference a bit of challenge does for the overall emotion and feel of a game, and also overestimate their ability to pinpoint their own abilities. It'd be interesting if From ever tried adding an easy mode to one of these as an experiment. I think the same people who thought they wanted the game to be easier will end up feeling unfulfilled instead. I also think Sekiro would suffer even more greatly than a Souls game would have, because the entire core of Sekiro is focused around a challenging task. They have arguably already made it as easy as they could have without ruining it since the timings are very forgiving and you are given multiple ressurects and plenty of healing to make up for mistakes (not so much in the early game to be fair).

But what do I know. Maybe I'm the only one that would've bumped the difficulty down on particular annoying mini bosses and then bored myself to death because the game lost it's edge. Maybe everyone else that wants a mode like this has excellent self control and can exactly decide what's "just right" for them.

Devil May Cry 5 aaaaall the waaaaay. I've been living and breathing it since it was announced, and it STILL exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to get home from work and do more Bloody Palace!

DMC 5 for sure. Sekiro is great, but DMC is arguably one of or even THE best action game of all time. I love it to death.

I think Sekiro is overall much harder. Though it's possible I'm currently developing the skillset to start feeling like it's about the same. It's hard to remember what it was like playing souls for the first time at this point.

Though as for Sekiro being harder, that might not be true for the areas, the level design is pretty straightforward and fair for the most part. And the regular enemies are pretty easy to deal with all around. I can sprint through the entire game now just carving a path really quickly and easily. While in Souls there are still areas of small enemies that I will die to more than bosses even.

However the mini bosses strewn around the world are MEAN. Pretty much every encounter I've had with a named enemy or boss has taken many tries to defeat. I can't think of one I did first try and some of them took easily 15-20 attempts. Most of my time with the game has been spent retrying duels with a single enemy over and over. The session's so far have kind of been like, 90 minutes of completely exploring my available area, finding 4-5 mini bosses and one blocking my progression. Then like 4 hours trying to defeat all those encounters with no exploration.

So I have no idea how pasteurizing works. I always assumed it was some sort of filtering to get bacteria out of the milk to make it drinkable? But isn't milk also fine for humans straight from the cow? WHAT ARE WE DOING TO THE MILK AND WHY.

I refuse to look this up on my own now. Please explain.

@poobumbutt: Not sure how the DmC bit showed up in that post. But if you are talking about the ranking system, it is even dumber than 4. You get ranked on finding secrets, including ones that are inaccessible. So you HAVE to replay some levels to get an S on them, because it was literally impossible the first time.

I have just about no complaints. Feels like an improvement across the board. If and when Bloody Palace and the other playable characters are added in a good state, I think it would be indisputably the best in the franchise.

I've played 14h so far, and almost 12 of those were in the same day. Can't put it down!

EDIT: The longterm test is how it holds up for the true crazies. One of the joys of 4 was the long tail of incredible gamepad acrobatics the 0.1% could do. But since this game is largely easier on the inputs, I wonder if they will get bored quicker? A lot of the people with insane legacy skill in 4 are already at what looks like the skill ceiling for 5, and it's been out like two days. But I could be wrong.

Though none of that really affects my own enjoyment, only my interest in keeping up with youtube. :P
