I'm not sure I totally agree with the rationale presented here, but in general Value gets a lot of love without a lot of critical thinking behind it.

I personally thing Portal one is amazing, but the fandom at this point is annoying and Portal 2 was not even close to the first one.

I think it's also fair criticism that Value hasn't made an original IP themselves since Half Life 1.

Half Life 2 is incredibly overrated. I feel like there was some obvious design issues, most of which were actually fixed in Episode 2, which I did like a lot more.

I'm kinda of frustrated because I'd really like a more steam-like digital marketplace for consoles, but that's not coming without more DRM. If Sony wins by keeping everything the same then we are stuck with the same Gamestop preorder exclusives, way too much DLC right at launch, and maybe 70 dollar games down the road.

Like everyone is happy now, but it's going to be the same bs for another generation.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I kind of want used games to go away. I don't really buy used and I'd prefer a more steam-like digital marketplace for consoles, and I don't think that's happening without some DRM. I'm wondering if there is some PS4 fine print, like the games will be 70 dollars or something.

When their IP gets sold to someone that knows what they are doing, sure.

I don't really care for Half Life 2. Grant it, I played it in 2007 but the game lacks a sense of whole. I believe they broke up into teams and each team designed an hour of the game and then they just slapped them all together. It just makes the pacing seem really really bad. "Hey you are going to be on this buggy for way too long, and then fight zombies for way too long, and then deal with sand monsters for way too long." Also the silent protagonist thing just sucks. You go do all these things just because it's the linear path you are on. You get through design team A's 1 hour level meet a dude, who tells you to go through design team B's level until you get to the end. Oh yeah there isn't even an ending and we are going to retcon it in the expansion.

Now as much as the Half Life 2 people will say I'm wrong here, I think Value actually agrees with me because they fixed all these issues in Episode 1 and 2. Episode 1 they have the girl follow you around and provide a narrative and context for what you are doing (which they also did in Portal) and in Episode 2 they actually paced the gameplay sooo much better. It was diverse but didn't feel like people that never talked to each other were working on it.

@bigsmoke77: I thought we were talking about obvious stuff like a PT Cruiser with faux wood paneling. That first car is like a super expensive beetle but I'd probably still put up with it for free.

Idk I couldn't get through more than a few episodes of the Persona 4 one and watched the other two.

I feel like you need age or something to have this make any sense.

I don't think any of my big video game accomplishments fit that model. Like I have 30 FCs in Guitar Hero 3 and am in Master in Starcraft 2, but those are super high skill cap things you can't master, save that one 14 year old kid that could pretty much hit anything in Guitar Hero.
