What it is like being a gamer in Iceland

I have been playing games ever since I could hold a controller or move a mouse and before I came to the internet I though the prices for Video games and accessories were normal. For awhile they could have been but now they make no seance.

The video game platforms

Xbox 360 Elite=80.638 Kr ($629) This is after the Prize cut it died of the  RROD a few years ago. I had to create a UK live account to use the x box live market place.

PlayStation 3 (250GB) - Slim= 79.995 Kr ($623,99) Also after the Prize cut. This is my current platform Like with the Xbox I had to create a UK or US account to use the  PSN marketplace and Home.

  Nintendo Wii=49.900 Kr. ($389,24)  I don't own a W i i so I cant tell you anything about that.

you can check out other video game platform prizes here

The Video games

As if the prizes on the platforms were not bad enough the game prizes just make no seance.
The prizes are all over the place.

Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2= 12.495 Kr ($97,46)
  Heavy Rain= 11.495 Kr ($89,66)
  Battlefield: Bad Company 2    =11.995 Kr ($93,56)

Here are 3 popular game. As you can see the prizes on them are not same.

Here is a little that is going to make you scratch your head.
  Final Fantasy XIII=( $77,96) 9.995 kr

I thought this could be a sign of things were changing and maybe it is but then I saw this

God of War 3 = 13.495 kr ($105,27)  What the hell is this ! This is going to be the normal price for GOW 3 when it comes out . This is the most expensive game I have ever seen and this is just the normal edition. It is almost at the same price as the Bioshock 2 special edition which is 14.995 kr or $116,97.
There should be a law against this maybe there is(please tell me if there is)

Luckily I have steam to get PC games on a normal price.

I am on a student budget it is extremely hard and expensive to keep up with all theses new releases. I hope this get fixed soon, I am not ready give up gaming !

As a fellow Icelander, I share your pain and weep with you. :'(

That is bad. If i were there i'd ditch the consoles, and only do pc gaming. Those prices are very high.

As someone who just visited scandinavia, the prices are equally random, scattered and inflated. 500kr seems the max in norway, but that's like 80-90 bucks. Kinda glad I didn't pickup SC2 there. Maaan, we got it easy in north america.

@Jeust: PC games aren't any cheaper, either. Like I said, Starcraft 2 was like 90 bucks.

Well i live in Greece and games are pretty expensive here too. For example when GoW3 came out standard edition cost from  50 euros(65 dollars) to 70 euros(90 dollars). Thank god for amazon.

Yeah, well, you have some of the best musicians and most gorgeous natural landscapes in the world. Swings and roundabouts.

Steam :p

This is....FUCK!

@Jeust:  True. Though I wonder fi they keep the prices fair, or just charge whatever's retail in the given country. Either way, Steam sales bring back balance to the world of poor game prices. Dozen racing games for 15$ Yes please!

@XII_Sniper: They probably keep it fair, because as Iceland is such a small country, they probably don't have a specific price list for the country thankfully, and so more reasonable prices.

Where would we be without Steam? ^^

Same prices in Denmark. I like how a lot of people complain about prices, when games here is almost twice as expensive. That's why I buy my games from England an save the equivalent of 35$

EDIT: Oh, and Uncharted: Drakes Fortune still goes for about 80-85$ here.

Guys we should keep in mind that Iceland had it really rough during the credit crunch in 2008 so 650 bucks for a Ps3 is motherfreaking ridiculous.

A game that costs $50 on steam usually costs €50 here.

The standard price for a console game in Sweden is $94.

Starcraft 2 was actually only $67  (little more than standard PC game price) here for some reason.

Figures. And once Digital Distribution becomes the norm, prices will stay at the rediculous-level to 'not interfere with retail partners'.

You should start import games. It's usually cheaper.
