Toxin066: Best of 2009

  • ...fucking Batman. Wow, what a game. Everyone always says they have easy to use difficult to master combat systems, but this was the first time I felt that the game lived up to the claim. Arkham Asylum probably had the greatest atmosphere and environment of any game I've played since my first time through Bioshock. It sets the mood and keeps with it. The amount of detail that went in to every little thing was incredible. Riddles and collectibles added hours of extra gameplay - and the best part of them was that they were hella fun to actually collect. "Metroidvania" styled collectibility. Felt like Batman while playing it. Hell yeah.

  • Superb gameplay. Ubisoft really has a lock on the whole "free running" thing. Heck, I didn't even mind collecting all 100 feathers because just playing the game was so fun. The swordplay (and combat in general) was excellent. Hey, there was a story in this one! It looked really pretty too. This was already one of my most anticipated of '09 and I'm glad to see it go on to be one of my Best of '09.

  • So duder. This game zapped (c wut i did thar?) it's way in to my must have early early this year. When I finally got my hands on it, I dorkgasmed. The story telling was fresh(ly inked...hey-o). But the gameplay is where it shined for me. It was like crackdown...with electricity. All of the powers were fun to use. I thought the progression was great. The powers were spaced apart enough so that I had time to get used to one, but not completely bored with it. And just when I was ALMOST bored I would unlock a new one. Wowzah, man. It felt shockingly good to cutloose on some fools. Each of the islands felt new and original. I also liked how the morality and upgrade system worked. If you wanted to get the best powers, you had to choose a path and stick with it. There was no "gray" area. My love of the powers and this one-side only thing really enticed me to play through a 2nd time. In terms of story and gameplay, inFamous charged it's way in to the top 10 of the year. Easily.

  • Duder. Multiplayer game of the year. The FPS/RPG thing works. Loved it. lvl 50 soldier, represent. Totally fun game.

  • Yup. Liked it! A whole lot. Never finished though. So I started playing it in November, then got bogged down by the glorious onslaught of other games. Planned on finishing it during my stay in Gaming Limbo (the period between Mid-December and Christmas), but ps3 died. But the 3/4s of it I played were some of the funnest hours of gaming I had this year. Reads blu-ray DVDs, DVDs, Ps2 games...but won't read ps3. So it's under repairs. That said, holy balls did I enjoy my time with this game. Looked incredible, thought it played really really well. Loved the platforming. Naughty Dog seems to have a knack for that. The 3/4s of it I played were some of the funnest hours of gaming I had this year.

  • So the story was sort of a gripe for some people, but I found myself really enjoying the pseudo-crappy story this game has. It is just so over-the-top ridiculous...to the point of being one of those good "bad stories." The shooting feels right. That's really all I have to say about the shooting. It just felt right. Looks great. For me it lives up to the hype. Really fun game. The kind of game I can actually see myself going back to, even into next year.

  • The best "platforming" game of the year, definitely. Not much more to say about it.

  • Another open world power based game that I really enjoyed. Alex Mercer is merciless. And I love it. The powers are super fun to use (glide armscythe downward slam thing is probably the coolest move this year). I thought the Web of Intrigue is a really neat idea that worked pretty well. There are DUDES to collect in this game. And it is fun to hunt them down because the motion in this game is hella fun. Running around and through crowds, slaying hordes of citizens is a great way to spend an afternoon.

  • Goofy, whacky, and fun on the go. \m/ Yall know what I'm talking about, and why this is on my GOTY list. All five of you.

  • As a trivia whore (Jeopardy is the greatest show ever), I can really appreciate what this game does: provide hours of entertainment for me and my friends.
