@humanity: Lorne Lanning actually said something very interesting in a interview. His creation, Oddworld's Abe, was a frail, sickly looking individual. He was a slave, had little to no physique and was stitch-lipped. The total opposite of a power fantasy. The reason Abe resonated with people was that he was closer to the representation of the average joe than the Residents Evil's boulder-punching Chris. I don't actively dislike power fantasies but if you look at the majority of male protagonists, they're all bald or short-haired, 30-something, grumpy white men. We don't have many female protagonists but I sure as hell know Bayonetta isn't the way to go. Regina (Dino Crisis), Claire Redfield (Resident Evil), Faith (Mirror's Edge), the old Lara Croft are much fairer representations of intelligent women.
