150 000 Registered Users on Giantbomb: What is a man?

If you check the Top Users section of the site you'll get a numbered result of all the people registered on the site. As of the time that I'm writing this here's the amount of registered users per Whiskey Media site except Tested who no longer feature a list of users since they re-designed their site (Or maybe I just can't find it).

Giant Bomb (launched July 21, 2008) = 151 147 users

Comic Vine (launched December 6, 2006) = 124 775 users

Anime Vice (launched April, 2008) = 31 571 users

Screened (launched May 12, 2010) = 25 594 users

At first I was shocked. I thought: this few? But then I thought: wait, what do I know? Is 150 000 users a big number for an internet site? I have no idea really, though Screened's 25k seems very low. According to Whiskey Media there are 4 Million Monthly views across all of these sites. Obviously many people don't register but as registered numbers go can an educated person give me an idea of what context to place these numbers in?

UPDATE: I like the little spin-off topic that spawned from this. I am user number 23581, joined on Nov 18, 2008. That's 3 months 28 days after the full site launched and 8 months 12 days after the blog launched. Shame on me, all though I'm not sure that the blog featured user registrations yet?

Here's a way to see your user number, info provided by Moderator MB, I'm posting this below so we DON'T ALL NEED TO STALK HIM.

Right click your avatar, open image in new tab or copy image url, and it's the second number after uploads/ in the url (eg uploads/2/23581/ would be 23581). Should be the same on any image you've uploaded to the site.

I had 2 accounts before this one (which I stopped using in shame due to my initial trolling) and I bet that I am not the only one who had other accounts registered.

My girlfriend also had multiple accounts, mainly because she lost her Info.

If you browse through all the users alphabetically you'll find a lot of accounts with 0 posts and wiki points and no avatar. I'd be surprised if more than half of those 150 000 accounts have ever been logged onto more than once.

I used the WaybackMachine for ADAM AND JAMIE'S TESTED©™ at the latest date they have which is Jul 26, 2011 and it only says 19,751. Im sure by now it is a little bit more than that. And then a little bit more because of ADAM AND JAMIE's branding on the site.

Don't forget that Giant Bomb attracts a lot of spam accounts for whatever reason.

Giantbomb gets ~4,00,000 unique views and ~18,000,000 page views a month, and ~150,000 unique views and ~600,000 page views a day. I think that's very healthy for a website. No wonder CBS bought them.

I am glad you linked that, as now I can tell people that well over half of all giantbomb visitors are from outside of the US.

Cool, maybe. It would be awesome if someone could somehow quantify how many active users of the site exist. Y'know, accounts that use GB at least once a month or something. The real audience of a website seems difficult to nail down.

can you delete your account on Gamespot? if so then yea that'd be interesting. either that, or just the amount of accounts that were created to give Kane & Lynch a 1.0. user review

My guess is they get more hits in the summer because there are no games to play, where as in the fall people are busy playing games.

Or it could be the other way around, I really don't know.

I think that is a lot. I mean that is 150,000 people who took the time to actually make an account. Ive been following this site from the beginning and only bothered making a profile a few years ago. Plus, I have a bunch of friends who visit the site but do not have an account.

that particular comparison probably wouldn't be especially relevant since gamespot is way older and the internet and internet traffic has grown significantly since then.

@MB: I'd love to know mine. First 50,000?

@Flacracker: http://www.quantcast.com/tested.com That shows the sites views for Tested since it's launch. Doesn't seem like they've really grown much since Jamie and Adam came on board; it actually seems like their traffic has gone down a bit since the new site launched in March. I don't know what the huge spike on July 16th is for. Any idea what it could be?

i remember totalbiscuit being confused as to why giantbomb isnt milking their youtube account as much as they could be , i mean given the amount of views trhu the site itself , they are getting a insanely low proportion of actual youtube views, not that that really matters , but i can udnerstand why totalbiscuit would be confused as he makes his living from youtube alone , im a person who does not mind watching ads on channels i subscribe to etc and woudl gladly support giantbomb more (more than my current premium account etc ) by giving them ad revenue on their videos.

i dunno .. i havent thought much about how to get my point across so it probably makes little sense , but i do believe that gb should have a person dedicated to maintaining and promoting a youtube page , as EXTRA revenue..

The number of registered members isn't as important as the clicks on articles and videos. That said, the number of registered users can indicate what regular site traffic is like, barring alternate and spam accounts. Registered members are usually regular site users that tend to access more content on the site than the average person coming to Giant Bomb.

These should be right:

@Oni: 1480

@TrashMustache: 23581

@Dick_Mohawk: 31071

Right click your avatar, open image in new tab or copy image url, and it's the second number after uploads/ in the url (eg uploads/2/23581/ would be 23581). Should be the same on any image you've uploaded to the site.

Huh. 3973. I remember waiting for the site to open for registration but I had to get sleep....

Anyway, the number of people who visit websites regularly but never create an account is usually high, so I could believe that number. Also, the number of those registered accounts which are *active* members is just a fraction.

I thought Dave Snider might be really close to 1, but he's 22.

Decided some of the accounts that were around first were probably test accounts, so I knew might be up there seeing it around here and there and presumably run by Ethan at one time. It was number 3.

I also tried @test. It was number 32. Both have Punch-Out! avatars.

Found a problem here though: both @ethan and @test are 32.

@jeff is 26.

@ryan is 27.

@brad is 30.

@vinny is 31.

@patrickklepek is 93,384.

@drewbert is 23,534.

@alex is 12,537.

Now I'm checking everybody's who comments in the forums. This is the start of a terrible habit.

They're either doing well or have potential otherwise CBS wouldn't have bought them.

150,000 registered users is pretty good, even if a lot of them don't use their accounts. And at the end of the day, it's page-views that count. The Users thing was more important when they were dependent on Subscriptions to keep afloat. Having said that, I'll still subscribe because 1) These guys deserve money and 2) I like the Youtube player option and embiggen.
