I think it does. cause now I can plainly see how japanese game developers are off their god damn rocker. Like there was much I put up with the series in terms of evolution and needing to work on replayability, but when they screw up my favorite animal's evolution. thats when the line is crossed.

I mean what the hell is this?
How does an Otter end up looking like that?

The most LOGICAL point would be that it comes out as a Water/ Ice type with thicker fur and having the shells on its body for armor. OR go Water/fighting and make it a sleek / muscular otter using the shells as elbow and knee pads. Not a cheap lool a like knock off of Dialga.

Anyways that was my complaining, I want to hear if you liked the evolution or you would have it changed to something better.

6 was when it peaked in terms of the original 2d sprites, 7 brought a whole new genre of "Fan" gamers into the mix, but since then the company has had a hard time recapturing the amount of people it had. Prime example that Squaresoft went under and ended up merging with Enix in order to save itself and the franchise.

when you break the series down it has not really brought anything revolutionary to the rpg series outside of graphics, the stories and characters were about as deep as a slice of Kraft sliced cheese. The last game i OWNED was 8. i rented and played the others beyond that. frankly the series was not worth buying. but then again when you start playing table top role playing games every rpg video game in comparison seems inferior.

i find it strange that we as a society have to put emphasis on paying monthly into a game which entertains us for a couple hours at a time. especially anything that has an online aspect to it. when it comes to technology and games. There will always be people trying to play a game for free. And heaven forbid that people do not make money on games, I guess that would mean people would end up going outside to play or maybe read a book. GASP! If people want to play then let them. what he made was something of his own choice, cause he chose to boot people who did not pay. There is always going to be players others do not like at all so what good will it do to cut down on the quality of the players. You will always get that kid who is 9 years old using their parents card who has access to online play and just kill someones buzz.

The way i see it. I treat the board members as well as the movers and shakers at Square Enix like Joe Quesada at Marvel comics..... which i think they should go hang themselves and have someone who actually cares about the fans in charge. or just stop the series all together.

What really puts me off the game. is the fact that humans can not transend into their own transformation, but rather have the 6 few remaining sayian bloods that existed in the world 200 years ago apparently mated with every single able bodied woman on the planet allowing all humans the ability to go super sayian. to me that is just pure lazy with the iniability to come up with anything original for a super human. I mean in they could have done something similar but have different aura colors based on the soul of the person like in asian culture, they believe that everyone has a different colored aura based on the type of person you are.

Now rather than go into Western Rpg vs Eastern Rpg. everyone has their own opinion on how an rpg should be. so to break it down we will do a *detailed rating system and then you describe in detail what that game or rpg is like.

The scale goes from 0 (being not important at all) - to 5 (being crucial to the rpg)

  Characters:
  Level Progression:
Pre-Designed character background: (often refers to your character)
Character Customization: (often to jobs, armor, weapons, personal tweeks to the character)

World Design: (well thought out world or just slapped together)
  Free roaming capability:

Story: (5- being overlaping and emcopasses every single aspect of the game)
Antagonist: (5- being should be prodominate in the story, and have lots of detail put into them)
Multi-directional outcome: (good/bad ending, right or wrong etc...)

  Graphics:
   Battle System:
   A.I.:

Optional gameplay: (mini games that would exist)
   Online Capability:
   Achievements:
   Co-op gameplay:
   Add on Capability:
(also refers to mods)

Explanation: going into detail describing your point that you put down.

Mine (example)

Characters: 4
  Level Progression: 5
  Pre-Designed character background: 0
  Character Customization: 5

  World Design: 3
  Free roaming capability:  5

  Story: 3
  Antagonist: 3
  Multi-directional outcome: 4

  Graphics:  2
   Battle System:
4
   A.I.:
3
   Optional gameplay:  2
   Online Capability: 3
   Achievements:  2
   Co-op gameplay:  3
   Add on Capability:
2

Explanation:  Well basically what i have put down im more into character customization, which would be a job system, and customizing armor, and weapons if i can. plus any additional things like that, in the end for that section i want that character to be my own and not something that someone forces onto me. Also getting a chance to picking who i want in the party plus how many i can get into the party would be nice. to me world design is not that important but i would like it to make sense, but free roaming would be a great aspect.

Story is where i differ with many people. cause it seems people want some if not most people. a story would be good but i it should be just enough for me to know what is going on.  it should do its job at giving me the base points of what this game is about. the villain or villains should be there in the game and make me want to kill them and not overshadow every single aspect that they become an annoyance (sephiroth). having multiple endings to an rpg would be great where conversation or story outcome is based on an AI's alive or dead status. so say you "accidentally" dropped that wagon that was convieniantly suspended over that rich mans head and turns out he had information far down the road that might be useful for the story.

Graphics i don't really care in the end if it is 8-bit graphics or HD, but at least if they put effort into allowing my customization then i don't care either way. Battle system is important cause what good is customizing if i don't have a decent battle system to run it through. it should be engaging... FOR ALL CHARACTERS. which means i should control how the party works like a good team of pokemon, i liked FF8 where the monsters leveled up with you... not the draw system. A.I of Npc's, and monsters should seem to be fluid. they had something going in Monster Hunters Tri but not enough monsters fighting each other.  like we are going through a free roaming world, might as well have interaction between the inhabitants of the world. Oblivion did something similar to that too.

Optional Gameplay is not that needed but anything that can allow the player to do something else to pass the time would be fine. the best one ive seen and engaging was Chocobo breeding and racing on FF7, and crafting things in like the MMO's (WoW,FF 11 and lord of the rings). Online would be okay but i would prefer private or party invites. like Xbox live where you have friends and you invite your friend to do a quest or story run with you or import them to your system where you can do stuff together. Achievements i never really cared for but find when everything is said and done why not have a pre set goal to try to beat. the co-op goes hand in hand with the online idea. though not nessisary yet at the same time there are really talented people out there who can make great add ons. sometimes the developers of the game who really do care will go the extra mile to expand that world.

* edit wording and replaced simple.

@eldiax:  don't need too i don't own the game. which i pity people who do.

but this brings me to another question which this game and im guessing the genre and or the series itself will be. does this mean people want to be told and pushed through a game? like to me this does not feel like a game at all. by definition would this "game" not be called a button mashing movie?

Okay after sitting down playing for 10 hours, watching my friends complete the game. i am just not getting its appeal. for 10 hours i had to force myself to sit through this, and trying to figure out in the end how is this an RPG?

ive spent decades playing games. FF 13 did not in anyway reach out to me OUTSIDE of the fact it had high def graphics. and maybe its come to be expected of the japanese, maybe this is the expectation or the standard which i should judge all their games. a game that forces you through the story and to me treats the player as a hindrance to the story itself DOES NOT make in anyway for good gameplay. yeah yeah i can go about this and be objective. this is not a review.

So someone tell me how in hell is this an rpg? is this the standard in which i have to expect the japanese to make their games?
