I became rather puzzled when I heard about Halo3: Recon. While I am loving Halo3 and all of it's amazing content within it's package, it has it's large number of flaws that confuse and frustrate the living shit out of me.
For instance:
- Why in fuck's name is the Spartan's HUD visor so warped? The middle of the visor is zoomed in while the sides are pulled back. You can't see a single god damn thing in close-range combat. It makes it nearly impossible to see a plasma grenade or Wraith shot flying above your head. I know Bungie wanted it to seem like we are actually in the Master Chief's eyes, but that's just being GTA4-ish: balance over realism any day.
- The difficulty and enemy AI in Halo3 is all over the place. I played on Legendary (with no skulls on, of course); and in some areas, the AI was freaking easy, and in other areas, it was fucking ridiculous. I mean, TRIAL-AND-ERROR ridiculous. Every projectile that the enemy fires will hit you no matter what. It makes rain drops look easier to dodge.
- 4 player co-op is a lag fest.
- There are way too many weapons. The Assault Rifle is a useless piece of shit and should be lethal at both medium and close range, not just close. It makes the Battle Rifle the ultimate weapon in the game. It will rape anything that doesn't have a Battle Rifle or a Carbine... or a Sniper Rifle... or a Rocket Launcher... Yeah, and there shouldn't be power weapons. Every weapon should have their uses, just like Halo: CE's.
- The hit detection for the weapons are balls. If I shoot an enemy directly in the head with a sniper, I don't want to see the bullet clip through him or see a spark come out of his head; I-WANT-HIM-TO-DIE. I also miss targets at times and they fucking get hit. WTF MATE?!
- The radar is fucked up. If a red dot is going toward my position, it should tell me if it's on top of me or right on my level. Something that's so dependable shouldn't be so useless and frustrating.
- The sword and shotgun are useless. Their ranges need to be increased slightly.
- The Mauler and Spiker are unnecessary.
- The turrets (and ripped out ones) are useless in multiplayer.
- No ability to play people's custom and forged games on Matchmaking.
- Ur mum
Now, Halo3: Recon might fix these complaints for me, the Bungie.net community, and many other players that avoided the game. But after hearing this interview, it will bring more then just improvements...
Yeah, that's just incredible. You'll be playing as an ODST against an army of Covenant troops all by yourself. How's this possible? I don't know, but from what the interviewed developer said, the tactics and gameplay will be very different from the actual Halo series. There's barely any stealth involved, so this is going to be very odd... but quite interesting. That's what makes it so incredible.
And with the multiplayer content that they mentioned in the interview, this expansion is going to contain a load of shit to make me and most of the Bungie fans happy.
And so the list of Anticipitated '09 games has begun...
