A List of my favorite characters in Video Games
Ratchet the ever lovable lombax has been a favorite of mine since his entrance in Ratchet & Clank. His humorous attitude while he saves the world with awesome weapons has always been a welcome addition and probably one reason I love the series so much.
Clank may be the sidekick of his franchise, but he really shines. He is what people would classify as "book smart" so he is lacking on the street smarts. His charm comes from his naivete and how excited he gets when he learns something new. His friendship with Ratchet is also a amazing part of the series.
Dr. Nefarious is your classic Sci-fi villain. He is a maniac who really just wants to destroy the galaxy because he can. He is joined by his butler Lawrence in his quest for destruction. He often gets so worked up he blows a gasket and gets stuck in a frozen state which adds for humor.
Yoshi is Mario's ever faithful friend and "steed". I always liked him because he is a happy dinosaur dude. I make it a habit of picking Yoshi for all the spinoff games because he rules.
Bowser is the classic villain. He kidnaps Peach for no real reason other than plot telling him to. Maybe he just wants to be a jerk and mess things up? Who knows. All I know is he is an awesome Turtle-Dragon.
Dry bones is an Undead Koopatroopa. A ZOMBIE TURTLE. That rules.
Link is the courageous hero of the Legend of Zelda series. He is actually different people in most of the games so its sort of like a destiny thing. Nevertheless Link is always vigilant in his quest to thwart evil. I always admired Link for being so brave and selfless to face all these monsters. Lets hope he continues the tradition for another 25 years.
Zelda is the wise herald of the goddess in the series named after her. She usually manages to get herself kidnapped. I have liked recent iterations of the character where she wasn't so helpless. Nice to see the character is evolving.
Ganon is the powerful lord of darkness. He is always trying to destroy the land of Hyrule. I've always enjoyed him as a villain because he is evil for the sake of being evil. Pure chaos and destruction. Always a cool concept in a villain. Hopefully his Smash Bros version will use his sword at some point..
Malon is a friend of Link's in Ocarina of Time. I've always enjoyed her very friendly attitude. She also seems to be like a counterpoint for his romance with Zelda which is interesting (Saria fits this too).
Christie is the only character I really care for in DOA. She is an assassin that uses probably one of the coolest fighting styles I ever saw before. She is a femme fatale who blends sex with deadly proficiency. Also the only character I ever use.
Here we have one of the coolest characters from Soul Calibur. Cervantes is a undead pirate who came back from hell to claim the power of the soul edge. His desire from power allowed him to transcend death itself. Crazy cool concept. Also he is super fun to play as.
Ivy is Cervantes' daughter. How she managed to stay so attractive after hundreds of years is a mystery. Also how she sword fights in armor like that is a bigger mystery. I always enjoyed her for how over the top she is. She is fun to play as well.
Shura is a clone character of Cervantes. Plays exactly the same as him. I like to think of her as if Ivy took up her father's fighting style. she has the same proportions and everything!!
Nightmare is basically if Seifreid took the evil power of the Soul Edge. I just always liked his look.
Lizardman is a Man-like Lizard that I am sure has some sort of back story to him. I just like the fact he is a lizardman.
Tira is a character new to me. I enjoyed playing her however. She is a crazy goth girl with two personalities. She uses this insane wheel-sword weapon that I am unsure how she would be able to use it properly.
Lara is of course the star of Tomb Raider. I admit I was originally drawn to her because of the curves. I got back into her through Crystal Dynamic's games. I love their treatment of the character. Lara is the total package. a Smart, brave and beautiful woman. Its is always fun to accompany her on her adventures to see where she will end up next.
Amanda is a villain from the CD series of Tomb Raider games. She is basically the anti-lara. She was a friend of hers growing up but became obsessed with a magic relic that drove her insane.
I was first introduce to the Chief through Halo 2. He has always been a cool character to me. I don't see him as the be all end all character however. He is the last of a series of super soldiers. In alot of ways he is like Captain America, which is interesting. He basically single handedly defeats an entire alien army, a zombie-like infestation and saves the human race. Sounds like a cool hero to me.
The Arbiter is a Elite who does something great to earn the rank of Arbiter. The Arbiter of the main Halo games eventually works together with Master Chief. I always liked how he looks and Keith David does his voice which is cool.
Cortana is Master Chief's AI companion. I always got the sense that Cortana suffered from "Pinocchio syndrome". That she wanted to be a real woman so she could love the Chief. Sort of Tragic in alot of ways.
Elites are one of the races of the covenant in the Halo series. They are slightly larger than humans and have a sort of "alien lizard" thing going for them. I always enjoyed using an elite in multiplayer over a spartan.
Big Daddys are the genetically engineered bodyguards of the Little Sisters in Bioshock. If you want to get the ADAM from a Little Sister, you need to deal with the Big Daddy. I always enjoyed saving them for the end of the level as it was always more fun to use everything you gained in that area to take on the Big Daddy.
Delta here is one of the early Big Daddies. In the early phases the Big Daddy had to be linked to a single Little sister. So the majority of Bioshock 2 you are trying to find your Little Sister Eleanor. I won't spoil anything, but I did enjoy the story. This Big Daddy can use the plasmid abilities like firing lighting bolts, so its really a interesting experience.
Elanor is Subject Delta's little sister. The way her story plays out is really neat. I won't spoil it here however.
The Big Sisters are little sisters that "grew up". They basically are the "law" in Rapture. Its really a different experience to fight one of these the first time. They posses amazing telekinetic powers and can throw parts of walls like paper. A really cool enemy.
Andrew Ryan is the founder of Rapture, the underwater city of Bioshock. He is really an interesting character. He built a city underwater to escape the cold war and to run a society free of rules of big government, only to have it come crashing down anyway. The parts of the game with him in it are some of the best parts, merely cause the effect he has on the atmosphere.
The main character of Fallout 3. How his/her story unfolds depends on you. Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games for that reason.
Dogmeat is the loyal companion of the player in Fallout 3. He rules.
Nothing is worse in the Fallout universe than facing your first Deathclaw. Genetically mutated chameleons. They have 2 foot long claws on each finger than BYPASSES YOUR ARMOR. No amount of special armor will protect you from these monsters. You have to rely on pure offense or stealth to defeat them. In Fallout 3 you could use the dart gun to slow them down, in New Vegas you are screwed as they removed that item and made them stronger. GOOD LUCK!
The Courier is the main character of Fallout New Vegas. Another of my favorite games simply for the openness of it.
Cass or Rose of Sharon Cassidy is one of the companions in Fallout NV. She is a nonsense cowgirl who likes her whiskey. I found her to be one of the better companions simply for her comments on the world.
Veronica is another NV companion. She is voiced by Felicia Day and it shows. She shares her whimsical joking attitude and overall chipper demeanor. She will also destroy anything with a punch from a pneumatic gauntlet, so that's cool too.
Rex is a robotic dog companion in Fallout NV. He is awesome.
Amata boils down to your first friend/crush in Fallout 3. You grow up with her in the vault and she helps you escape. She is one of the NPCs that I always liked because of the friendship your character has with her.
Shepard is the hero of Mass Effect. He/she is a character that can be played in many different ways, thus the awesomeness of RPGS.
Garrus is a retired cop of sorts. He joins Shepard in ME1. He is loyal, but not without his compassion. I always saw him as Shepard's greatest friend. He is also a damn good sniper.
Wrex is the thick headed member of the team. If you need someone to help you take on an entire base, bring Wrex. He becomes a king of his people by the second one, but it was cool to see him again. Looks like we may see him again in the 3rd one.
Tali is a member of a species called Quarians. They have weak immune systems and must live inside their suits forever. So it is understandable that she is very shy and "nerdy". I think the greatest thing ever is when you flirt with Tali she gets all flustered. She is also deserving of many hugs throughout the ME series.
Liara starts out as a scientist, but by the end of the second game she is a crazy woman who you don't want to get on the bad side of. I admire her persistence in getting what she is after however.
Ash is the only human companion in ME1 that matters. Screw Kaiden. She is a daughter of a military hero and thus puts up a strong front and tries to be the best soldier she can. I always found her as a good source of conversation in ME1. In ME2 she blows you off which sucks. She is back for ME3 though so we can rejoice!
Saren is one of the main villains in ME1. He is a spectre but become with a artifact to the point where he wants to destroy the universe to fullfill its demands. I found him to be a cool villain overall.
Jack is one of the kickass new companions from ME2. She has insane biotic powers and is probably one of the strongest biotics in the series. She was experimented on as a kid and thus didn't have much of a childhood. She puts up a tough front to hide her inner turmoil because she is afraid to be seen as vulnerable. She has probably the most rewarding romance in the game in terms of character development.
Grunt is a krogan warrior who was raised in a test tube to be perfect. You become his leader of sorts by chance. He is one of the best companions in the game simply because he is both strong and also has alot of funny reactions to situations. He reminds me of the hulk in alot of ways.
Legion is a member of the Geth, which are robotic organisms that served as the main enemy in ME1. He is basically a huge Shepard fanboy. Also a very cool companion.
Miranda is a member of Cerberus. She is voiced and modeled after Yvonne Strahovski from the show Chuck. She was basically made to be perfect by her father and often feels a sense of wanting to break free from those expectations. I enjoyed her character even if she was a tad bossy at times.
Thane is an assassin who is dying. He hopes that by helping you he can repent. He just came off as a very interesting character to me.
Mordin is the funniest character in ME2. He is a super genius and has sporadic thoughts. He seems friendly but is not against being ruthless if he feels it is scientifically sound. Get him to sing and you won't be disappointed.
Its Seth Green! Joker is the pilot of the Normandy in the Me series. He always has a funny quip to add, much like Seth Green!
EDI is the AI of the Normandy in ME2. She is voiced by Tricia Helfer. She bonds with Joker which leads to funny instances.
Morinth is a secret companion you can get in ME2. You have to kill off another companion to get her however. I enjoy her more than the other one simply because her attitude is more careless. She is the total opposite of her mother. She wants to indulge in pleasures rather than duty. Don't sleep with her though..
Kasumi I never really used as she was late DLc for me. She is a master thief. she has some funny things to add to situations, but I mostly like her because she reminds me of Psylocke.
Gordon is the silent protagonist of Half-life. I only ever played Half-life 2, but I did enjoy it.
Alyx is Gordon's love interest/friend in Half-life 2. Her interactions with the player are just really awesome. I can't wait to see what Valve does with the next part in the series.
Dog is a robot with the mind of a dog. Seriously you can play fetch with him. He rules.
The G-man is the evil Rod Serling of the Half-life games. He is shrouded in mystery which makes him really cool to me.
Headcrabs are one of the aliens in Half-life. They latch onto your head and make you a zombie of sorts. FUN! I always thought they kinda looked like roast chickens though. Random thought.
GLaDOS is the passive aggressive AI of Portal. She leads you on with promises of cake, and keeps you going with the amazing moral support of sarcasm. GLaDOS is hilarious and blames you for everything that has gone wrong. Because it is your fault afterall.
The Weighted Companion Cube is your most loyal friend. He never threatened to stab you. Yet you murdered him. You threw him into a fire and murdered him. How could you?
The turrets are the cutest way to die. Ever.
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEE (also quick fact, the person who voices him is Nolan North, who voices Nathan Drake. And now you know)
Wheatley is the clumsy core that "helps" you out in Portal 2 with his off-collar brand of British humor. He is awesome.
Zoey is the only Zombie fighter that matters. Why I don't quite know, but I always pick her. She is way better than Bill.
Chell is the reason GLaDOS died in a fire. Because she murdered her. She is also plus sized.
Francis is my second pick in L4D if someone takes Zoey. He is a cool Biker dude with jokes. JOKES!
Lilith is one of the "classes" in Borderlands. She is a Siren, which means she has this cool ability to go invisible and then reappear in a blast of energy and murder. I played her the most out of the four of them. She is also a red head and thus hot in my book.
Mordecai is who I first used in Borderlands. He is the Sniper class and has a alien falcon that he can call out to kill. I found him fun to use but overall very weak in terms of HP.
Ezio is an Italian Assassin and one of the protagonists of the Assassin Creed games. You follow him through his entire journey as an Assassin. He is a proud warrior who doesn't back down from a challenge. Glad to see he finds peace at some point.
Altair is the first Assassin that Desmond goes back to relive in the Assassin Creed series. He seems more rash and headstrong to me than Ezio. Overall still a cool character.
Hey look its Kristen Bell! She rules. Shame what happens to her...
Its Shaundi from the Saints Row series! I only played the 3rd game so I don't know her back story, but she is a big deal it seems. She was a good "homie" when I played, and very smexy... she likes to yell at you alot however.
Oleg is a brute with brains. He reminds me alot of the Kingpin. Its funny that if you want him to drive around with you, you need a pickup truck as he can't fit in anything else.
Kinzie is a antisocial computer hacker that got kicked out of the FBI. She joins you gang to help you take down a rival gang. She is super kinky, and very funny. Probably my favorite character in the game.
The Boss is your character in the saints row series. In Saints Row the third, My boss was a sarcastic English chap and he was awesome.
Viola is voiced by Sasha Grey a former adult actress. She has a certain amount of sass that made her a fun character.
Chuck is the protagonist in Dead Rising 2. He really is just looking out for his daughter. You have to respect a man who puts family first. Even before his own survival.
Stacey is your "quest giver" of sorts in DR2. She is a cool ally. I love what they do with her in the what if scenario of DR2 Off the record.
Frank is the man. He risks his life to not only get pictures of zombies but also to expose the corruption behind corporations. Also He's covered wars you know?
Snowflake is a Tiger who fights Zombies. A TIGER WHO FIGHTS ZOMBIES!
Alan is a author who gets trapped in the strange events of a town. He has to use his own knowledge as a mystery writer to solve the mystery of whats going on and survive to find his wife. He reminds me alot of Castle, just minus some of the Nathan Fillion Charm.
Blanka has always been my favorite Street fighter character. Mainly because of his bestial nature.
Zangief I enjoy. Mainly because he is a grappler. He is also a pretty funny character overall.
T.Hawk is one of the most awesome characters in Street Fighter and you all know it. He has a pet Hawk. Done argument over. Also he is a grappler and fun to play.
I always enjoyed spies and femme fatales, and thats exactly what Viper is. She is one of the most complex to control characters ever, but she is awesome.
Akuma is just a force of nature. He is raw evil and nothing is standing in his way. Sounds awesome to me!
OF COURSE! M.Bision is the most delicious villain in Street Fighter. Honestly besides Akuma I think he is probably the best one. Also when he destroyed your life it was the most important day for you, but for him it was Tuesday.
Kratos is a really complex character and many people don't realize it, or care to realize it. They just want to chop things up. He was once a proud warrior, but wanted more power. So he prayed to Ares the god of war to grant him this power. Of course nothing is free and on his slaughter of all who opposed him, Kratos accidentally killed his family. His pale white skin is actually the ashes of his family forever seared to his skin. Pretty crazy stuff. Kratos is awesome.
Drake is a man who is constantly searching. Searching for a key to his past, to his ancestry, for answers. I like that he isn't afraid to take up the journey to find what he is looking for. Plus he is great with one liners.
Sully is the owner of the greatest stache in history. He is also the father figure and overall best friend to Drake. I always enjoy his conversations with Drake.
Elena is the love interest of the Uncharted series. She isn't the greatest character but she has her moments.
Chloe I think is really Uncharted's Lara Croft. She is a kick ass British chick who goes on adventures in ancient ruins. Sounds like Lara to me. I always enjoyed Chloe more than Elena for some reason. Maybe its the accent.
Cutter is a new addition to the Uncharted series. He is sort of the clown of the group in some ways, but also the resident tough looking guy. He is claustrophobic which comes into play alot.
Cole was a courier who received a package that turned out to grant him electric powers. His story can go either way with the Karmic choices. I enjoy him either way however. His powers are awesome and the character himself is motivated by trying to make a difference for either others or himself.
Kuo is one of the super sidekicks you get in Infamous 2. She happens to be the voice of reason for the game. She has cool ice powers along with a "frost flight" like power that is neat.
Sasha is one of the bosses in InFamous. I enjoyed the detail that if you are evil you actually get her as a bit of a love interest. She has Symbiote like powers which I found cool.
Its Sackboy! He wins at being cool!
Isaac is a engineer on a ship in the future. Really Isaac just wants to survive. By the second game the events of the first game have take a toll on his mental health and it really shows. Really cool detail. He also has some of the coolest armor ever.
The Necromorphs are the enemies on Dead Space. They vary from cool looking Slasher to vile disgusting baby-like things. Each type of Necro offers a new challenge and I can't wait to see what other kinds are going to be create din the future.
Eliie is the main supporting character in Dead Space 2. I really enjoyed her character. Like Isaac she wants to survive not only the situation, but her past as well.
Snake is just cool. He is all about finding the answers and putting his life on the line to do so.
Otacon is Snake's support line. Basically his Q. The stuff he can whip up is pretty amazing. He also looks like John Lennon.
Meryl is a character that evolves from a young girl who wants to be strong, to a love interest for Snake, to finally a strong leader and soldier. Its really cool to see her over the course of the games.
Gray Fox is just awesome looking. Cyborg ninja!!
Drebin was partially the comedic relief of MGS 4, but also the arms dealer. He would fill you in on each of the upcoming bosses. He also looks like Cisco and has a cool soda drinking monkey.
ITS ALL SO FUCKING HYSTERICAL! Really cool boss.
This boss fight was kind of a pain, but cool once you figured it out.
Another cool Boss fight from MGS4
Really cool throwback boss fight.
One of the coolest bosses ever. He fought you with his mind. He ever would read your memory card and tell you what games you liked. Really awesome.
Cool robotic platform from the MGS series
Another Robotic platform from MGS
The resident genetic specialist. I enjoyed her role in MGS4 and the entire series. Also voiced by Jennifer Hale.
Another cool Boss battle.
Samus is one of the greatest characters in Video game history. The first real kickass female character. She's saved the galaxy numerous times. Best of all she wears awesome armor. I only ever played a bit of the prime games, but I like her in SSBB.
Ridley is Samus' number one foe. I just like him cause he is a space dragon.
I hardly played any F-zero, but Captain falcon is awesome in Super Smash Bros. PAWCH
Same with Falcon. I liked him in SSBM
Ditto SSBB

I never played a game with Claire, but I did see the movie she was in. Overall I like her character.
Sheva started off as Chris' new partner, but over time I think she blossomed into one of his good friends.
From a really charming game called Enslaved. Based on the same legend as Goku and Infernape. Monkey is a very headstrong and smash first ask questions type. His interactions with Trip are awesome and some of the best character interactions i've ever seen in a game.
Trip serves as the love interest, friend and brains of the group in enslaved. She is the voice of reason. Also she is a red head. Win.
Jak starts off as a Silent protagonist but overtime evolved into much more. I need to finish his games...
Daxter is Jak's friend who was turned into a weasel. He has a big mouth which gets him into trouble far too often. He reminds me alot of Timon from the Lion King.
Ashelin is one of the love interests for Jak, but also the daughter of his enemy the Baron. It adds a cool little dynamic there. I really like her look and her overall "f you" attitude.
ITS TIFA!
Lulu I liked alot from my time playing FF10. I usually used her because her spells were powerful and she looked cool.
Yuna Is the love interest of FF10 and the protagonist of 10-2. I don't remember much about her sadly. I do remember liking her.
Auron has the aura of a veteran about him. I always liked that. He also looks really awesome and I enjoyed him in Kingdom Hearts 2 as well as FF.
Tidus is the hero of FF10. I found him decent overall. I really need to replay that game sometime.
I played very little of her game, but look forward to actually playing it in the future.
The warden is your character in Dragon Age Origins. He/she is a Grey Warden, which are a sect of warriors that basically devote their life to preventing the rise of the ancient evil known as the darkspawn. They literally must give their lives to stop it. Although their are ways around your character dying of course.
Morrigan is the best companion in Dragon Age Origins. She is a sarcastic witch, who enjoys her time alone and seeks to further herself through others. She puts up a bit of a defense, but you can break through that with enough pestering. She says she dislikes talk of love, but she is just afraid to get attached and seem weak. Really cool character.
Dog is your dog. He is a Mabari Warhound. You can name him or leave his name Dog. I usually name him Max, for that is the greatest dog name ever.
Flemeth is the ancient witch of the wilds and Morrigan's mother. She is a constant presence in the series and I am curious to see where her story will end. She can also turn into a high dragon, which is helpful.
Oghren is a dwarf companion. He is gross. He is also a great and loyal friend, who would love nothing more than to go to a bar and hit on chicks with you.
Shale is a Golem who was created by a warlock for selfish purposes. She was frozen still fro a long time, and since has developed a hate of pigeons and birds. This is a running joke throughout the series and I hope to see her again in a future game. She refers to you as "it" which is also funny and is self-conscious of herself like most humans. She also sounds like Ursula from the Little Mermaid.
Leliana is a assassin from a French like land. She is a trained bard as well. She was betrayed by someone close to her and now is jaded to let anyone close to her.
Alistair is basically your best friend of group. He is your first Companion (besides Dog if you are human) and is one of the better ones. He has a great sense of humor. He is basically running from his royal responsibilities. He eventually is forced to face it.
Hawke is the "commander Shepard" of Dragon Age 2. Now a speaking character. I am glad they did this. I am curious who will be the star of the next game however.
Bethany is your sister in Dragon Age 2. I found her to be a very fun companion, until she is forced away.
Fenris is a dick. He was tortured by a mage and now hates them all. If you work at him and play nice you can work him down and see he isn't so bad. I have gotten him killed once because he is so difficult however.
Isabella is a character retooled for DA2. She prides herself on being a pirate and duelist. She would rather put fun over responsibility. She is one of the better companions in terms of conversations, but a tad bit on the weak side otherwise. I really enjoyed her carefree nature.
Merrill is a member of a group of secluded elves known as the dalish. She lost a friend to a magic mirror and is obsessed with trying to get him back and make everything OK. She doesn't shy away from using dangerous magics to accomplish this either. This has secluded hr from her tribe. Because she is a bit of a outcast, she is very naive to the ways of "normal" people, and it often leads to some charmingly cute dialog where she accidentally says something dirty or embarrassed herself. Like Tali she is deserving of many hugs.
ITS FELICIA DAY AGAIN! Still need to play this DLC
Varric wins manliest chest hair award. He is basically the story teller of DA2. He is a cool guy all around. He has some problems with his jerk of a brother.
My main in MK. He is Cool. GET IT!
Scorpion has always seemed really awesome to me as a kid.
Demon dude I always liked his design.
I haven't gotten very far in Chrono Trigger, but he is awesome.
I loved the first 2 KH games. Sora always struck me as a kid who just wants to protect his family. Nothing wrong with that.
Its Christy Carlson Romano! YEAH!
Axel has always had a cool look to me. Along with his cool weapons.
Chimera are the aliens of Resistance. I love their designs.
Felicia is just a really cool character. a Cat girl who equally cat and girl. She has a very overly happy childlike attitude which I always found funny.
Jon is a werewolf and thus awesome.
I started using him in UMvC3 and he RULES
