I'll 2nd this. I generally have zero interest in this kind of game, but have enjoyed it quite a bit while on the road and needing something to do.

RPGs - Particularly the Western, action, 3rd person perspective variety, such as Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Diablo, Skyrim (yes, I played 140 hours of Skyrim in 3rd person mode). Something about the combination of story and constant progression in this genre is what appeals to me, I think.

Turn-based Strategy - Civilization, XCOM, etc. This is my "go to" genre because each time playing is a different experience, so I can play a game of Civ when I have a spare hour or two and get something new out of it every time.

Open World Action - Being in 3rd person perspective is also a plus for me here, so games like Sleeping Dogs, Assassin's Creed, Saints Row fit the bill. They tend to have a clear story progression that can be fun when mainlined, but my severe case of Vinny-itis usually sends me on wild open-ended hunts for artifacts or flags or sword pieces or orbs or some other damn thing... and I love every minute of it!

Definitely FPS games. They combine the most horribly unintuitive interface with the most surprisingly popular gameplay and unenjoyable stories of any genre.

I did that very thing shortly after it came out, and didn't enjoy it one bit. I have never played a Metal Gear game before, so I don't know if the fact that I haven't made the MGSV experience bad, or if it is just not my type of game (i'm leaning toward the latter).

I played some NHL 15 before going to bed last night, and played Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark this morning in order to continue my streak of welcoming in the new year in the worst possible way (last year it was NeverDead).

Civilization V at 713 hours according to Steam. I'd wager I've spent that much or more on most of the previous pre-Steam Civ games, as well.

The best Patrick content is definitely the Fortune Street TNT, the SimGolf Stream, and the BioForge stuff (all of these largely thanks to the other participants... sorry).

@frostyryan: you are so totally right if you are not me and find the game or genre at all to be interesting.

Jason has been fantastic addition in every way. i don't have the ability to articulate what he has added, but i assure you it is so very welcome.
