@vinny: what he's saying is what I disagree with, that this loudness in the most public parts of the community is helping Giant Bomb improve, as opposed to simply increasing hostility, as it appears to have done.
Man, well. Like most things it's more complicated than that, right? Discussion is needed and often wanted. The internet is a tough place for discourse though and it can quickly turn into shouting and ignoring.
I remember when Rich and I did our production panel at PAX. He was telling the story of how we would walk into a meeting that had been going on for too long and tell everyone who was not currently involved that they are relieved and could go. We all knew exactly what he was talking about.
When a few people begin discussing something at the expense of the rest of the site it can be really tough. You begin drowning out all other conversation and discourage people from participating. It may not be as satisfying to continue a discussion privately, or in another more relevant spot, but it might be the most selfless. I'm not saying to give up a point, but be graceful and considerate to everyone else who might not be here for the same reason.
