If you're going to buy all the DLC you'd be stupid not to. But if you don't see yourself playing a whole lot of multiplayer, and opting for other games a lot of the time, it might be worth just getting the regular edition.
All the content Giant Bomb have made themselves, I watch that. Excluding TNT's for games that I'm not interested in, I'll usually watch a quarter of them.
I used to watch the Happy Hours and just skip to the Giant Bomb and Tested segments too.
Of course it's a business, it's completely unreasonable to expect these guys to pump out this much content day after day without getting cash from memberships/ads to fuel all of it.
They talked about a subscription model long before they actually put it into place, and have clearly spent a lot of time making it fair for those who don't want to subscribe.
There are too many huge games coming out in the next month or so, like so many people have pointed out. Looking at that list though, it looks like there have been/will be a heap of awesome titles this year.
