Games Beat in 2011!

A list of games I beat in the year 2011.

List items

  • First game beaten this year! Beat a few hours into 2011.

  • Beat 1/8/2011. Overall, great game. Beautiful art, great score, and mostly good puzzles. Only issue I had was it seemed they relied on mini-games too much and some of them were just too long and slowed the game down. 4/5.

  • 11/9/2011 - Beat Friction Game's first game (they made Amnesia). They've come along way since this game, but for a first game with a small team (really small), it's quite good. The controls needed work mostly. And those were really only an issue when you had to fight (spiders and dogs..always spiders and dogs..) - 3.5/5

  • Beaten 1/14/2011 - Fun, cyberpunk/post-apoc point and click adventure that is a good blend of humor and .. not humor (drama isn't the right word.) As far as this type of adventure games go, it's been the easiest for me to beat. Puzzles weren't as zany as other inventory-based adventure games like Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max. I <3 those games more, but I suck at the lucasarts zany puzzles. 4/5 for this game. Go play! It's free!

  • 1/17/2011 - I downloaded this earlier today..yesterday...(7:40 AM, haven't done that sleeping thing yet) and after a couple hours of playing (on and off through the day), sadly reached the ending. I really liked it. An adventure/interactive fiction game influenced by cyberpunk fiction and Shakespeare. The emphasis is on story, but it definitely falls into the adventure genre as well. Anyway, it's not for everyone. But it was for me. - 3.5/5.

  • Completed on 1/22/2011.

  • 1/27/2011. Beat on normal difficulty. Took about one hour. Really fun game. Highly recommended! And free! 4/5.

  • TECHNICALLY, I didn't/haven't beat this. I'm one thing away from completing the game - but it's so frustrating that what should take one minute with good controls is just .. painful. And it's obvious how it ends. So, in my book, I beat it. Around 2/1/2011.

  • Beat 2/6/2011. Took around 4 hours to beat...A good concept but it didn't live up to it's potential. The art is beautiful, the story nice, some of the puzzles good - but a lot of the puzzles not really connected to the game, just common puzzle/mini-games tossed in to give the player something to do in order to get an item or progress in the story, which becomes a pretty big flaw, unfortunately. 3/5, cause the art is pretty.

  • Beaten on 2/7/2011! Yay!I'm hardcore now?

  • Beat 2/8/2011. - Super short game. But, for the dollar price tag and the good gameplay, I didn't feel cheated at the end. I shall be purchasing Part 2 soon! 3.5/5

  • Beat on 2/09/2011. A nice step-up from the already-good first Decay game. More puzzles that are also more complex, more story pieces, etc. I only had one issue with the this game and that was the biggest and final puzzle was designed poorly so that it becomes complicated because it's confusingly represented to the player. But, hey, only the second game by Shining Gate Software and only having one issue is far from bad when huge companies make games with lots of problems. SO anyway, its good, I'll be buying the third soon! 3.75../5

  • Beat on 2/10/2011. This was the easiest of the Decay series so far. The puzzles were pretty straightforward and were mostly finding items - unlike the previous game(s) where there were puzzles you had to solve via deduction and such. This makes the game feel a lot shorter. But, this is the most cinematic so far and starts to get into the story aspects that have only been hinted at in previous Decay games. It's good, but the lack of challenging puzzles is disappointing. 3/5.

  • Beat on 2/13/2011. Fun, short (not in a bad way), puzzle game/pseudo-adventure game. Basically, it's a bunch of puzzles spread throughout the story of the game but not really connected to the story in a significant way. Were it JUST the puzzles, it would be pretty mediocre. They're okay-to-good puzzles, but what makes this game worth the $4.99 price is everything happening around the puzzles. Great story - imagine Twin Peaks + Fargo, basically. I really hope Telltale picks this up for at least a "season" of "episodes." (It was the first game they made for their Pilot program. - same idea as a TV pilot, really. So, I guess depending on sales, games released in the Pilot Program could get "picked up" = more games.) 3.5/5 -- really, story gets 4/5. Puzzles were mostly fun, but there could have been more variety.

  • Beat 6:30 AM 2/14/2011. If you like SNES-era (J)RPGs + an improvement here and there + homage/parody, go spend a dollar on Breath of Death VII!

  • Beat on 2/16/2011 (normal mode). A good game, but it felt really short. I don't have problems with short games (Decay 1 and 3 being 30 minutes or less and they work at that length), but when a game feels like it was rushed or ended too soon, that's the eh thing. I guess also added on to this was that I played this immediately after beating Breath of Death VII which is about 6 hours of gameplay on normal mode first time through and more complex game mechanics and story (saying Soulcaster has a story is pushing it..) and is only 80 points, whereas Soulcaster's hour gameplay where the story feels so superficial that it could have been left out and not affected the game is still 240 points. - Not that it isn't worth 240 points - I guess it's more like Breath of Death VII is worth more than 240 points and since they set it at 80, it makes other games seem overpriced when they really aren't.

I do like this game and will be getting the second and there is replay value in the first game, so don't let my too-short rant lead you to believe it's not worth getting! 3/5.

  • Beat on 2/16/2011. Normal difficulty. I'm at the last boss on the hard difficulty (using New Game+....its hard using New Game+ where you start off with all the upgrade points you can get....playing the hard difficulty without New game+ would be .. I would probably give up D=). This is an awesome game and you should go buy it! 80 points!

  • "Beat" on 3/1/2011. Dinner Date isn't really a game I would say one beats or doesn't beat. It's an interactive short film with emphasis on short film and not interactive. It's pretty much a set length of time (20-25 minutes) and beating it consists of not quitting, basically.

I like it though. But I like film and interactive fiction/cinema and experimental games and literary references and etc. It's not a game for most gamers, I would guess. But, for me, its worth the 4 bucks I paid for it on Steam definitely. 3.5/5.

  • Beat on 3/12/2011 (Ramona).

  • XBLA version. Beat Adventure mode on 3/13/2011.

  • Beat on 5/29/2011. Finally.

  • Beat the PSP version on 5/30/2011. That is, I accomplished every goal/beat the main storyline. There are still "side quests" and Sim-y things to do. And I can touch a mind-control device and it will have "unpredictable results".. BUT ITS BEAT IN MY BOOK.

  • Beat on 6/19/2011. One of the few "RPGs" that I did all the side quests and shit! I mean, it's a lot easier with this game...than .. a non-puzzle based RPG....BUT WHO CARES. I put a lot of time into this too. Apparently, I rather enjoy it. The best of the puzzle-rpg games I've come across. By far, in my opinion. Also, I <3 M&M, even Ubisoft's take on it. Even their anime-y take on it. Highly recommended if you like puzzle games and rpgs. Or ... elves?
