@quipido: Alrighty, I will bite as to why I didn't like Reys origins story. I don't know if you watched The Force Awaken, but it had Rey dealing with the fact that her parents had deserted her at some backwater desert planet. Leaving her completely isolated and having mixed feelings on confronting her past. Leaving her potentially exposed to the dark side and you can see this in The Last Jedi as she wants to know her parents, using whatever power it takes to find them (the black hole while she is mediating with Luke).
The Last Jedi has Kylo stating that her parents were low life people, sold her for some fuel and water, and that she should forget the past. She believes him and moves on with her life. That is where I have a problem with Rey's origin. You don't see the meditation that Rey needed to overcome the past. She simply does it. It counteracts what has been set up from the previous film and at that point.
I believe people are fine with Rey not being related to any random powerful Sith/Jedi user. I wasn't expecting Rey to be a daughter of some Jedi master at all. I do believe people are upset that Rey backstory has no real payoff.
I hope that was sufficient as to why there is a pushback to Reys origins. I just wanted to clarify on my perspective as to why I have many issues with the movie itself
